I remember reading an interview with Alec Empire years and years ago maybe even a DHR zine where he talked about Mowgley dropping off a DAT of some tracks and never seeing him again. He said they shot this video in hopes he would see it and get at them....could be BS but it is a cool story.
Oh shit! That's Alec in the back seat next Carl. Wow, I dubbed this onto VHS back in 94 on MTV's amp. Then looked for the track at record stores for a couple years. I like the theme: after or before the club, get chauffeured around town while spliffen it. The driver expression looks intense to like she caught some second hand.
yeah me to, bring back 91, i was 10 and in shorts and dancing to all the old tapes down the local Youth club, eating sweets and feeling like part of a scene it would take a few years to be old enough to enjoy with my feet proper.
I've still got an old, pre-DHR white label pressing by Mowgli ("Dark Jungle"), which I tried tracing back to the copyright owner but it just led nowhere.
Alec Empire is a really nice guy with an outstanding internet presence; he actually replies to all the comments and emails people send him. Just recently he remastered a lot of his older material and put it up for sale as mp3 on thehellishvortex. Try asking him if he'd remaster this EP on last fm/user/alec_empire
yeah man, its in an compilation album called "riot zone" by digital hardcore recordings, it dropped in 1997. i bought mine in the village nyc for like 5 bucks, its a great album
fellow alec empire fans help! i haven't been able to find this track anywhere! i lost it back in the day.....does anyone have a link to a torrent or anything???? help!!!!
this is one of my all time favorites!!1 back in the day... it dont matter if it was hardcore or jungle or whatever it just kicks assss!! damn i got the track in my collection for like 11 or 12 years now and i listen to it sooo many times its just great.
;DDD You know there is whole style to name this kind of music... it's called oldschool (hardcore breaks, uk hardcore). But this particular song sounds rather like jungle not hardcore (but the first have the roots from the second one)
Actually as I've been told constantly, back then they just called everything rave. It's kind of a blanket term, eventually claimed by big industries and inevitably made it more of a four letter word than it already is.

Could anyone here tell me what the original samples are @0:01 and @0:13?
The latter sounds like Shabba Ranks to be, but I could be wrong.

Did they used to show this on MTV's AMP show back in the 90's?

Any rips of old Alec material would be greatly appreciated, especially pre-DHR. That shit all sounds awesome to me and it's all really hard to find.

before that though it was it's own 12" on DHR (1994) and on the Rough And Fast compilation of Riot Beats (also 1994)
