Remember the time when NBC had the two greatest show of all the time on air?! FRIENDS & THE WEST WING. Does anybody know when it started to suck? Probably it was when they killed Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, I guess.
Frasier, West Wing...my old favorites. ER, Friends....those great mainstays. All my memories of NBC's awesomeness. Even though these shows all kept airing after 9/11, they feel like relics from the other side. The delayed premieres and everything was truly jarring. It's such a minor thing, but it's something you take for granted in your day-to-day lives, so it really hammers home the feeling of interruption.
Also, a main producer from Frasier died on one of the planes :(
It did air on Sep 10, but then after 9/11 it was pulled and re-tooled to be sort of a, "Let's get back to being Americans" feel-good for the delayed fall premieres after 9/11 happening a month prior. The revised version aired several times.
Such a great promo! Everyone is right, they don't air happy upbeat promos like this anymore! They should! And I <3 this song by Dakota Moon. I have it! Such a good song.
omg wow i miss adverts like this, it gave me such a warm happy feeling :) and wow FRIENDS (L) plus Will&Grace and Frasier, its so ironic though like with the song and everything who would of thought that just a few hours later ... "/
Oh my god. Such a lovely promo. What great shows. In the UK new seasons of Friends, Frasier and Will and Grace used to air all on a friday night, It was the best. Nothing has come close since.
What's so poignant and melancholy about that ad, like any spot from the Tenth is that it makes us think of what might have been. The first Monday after Labor Day sets the stage for the coming fall, yet that day so divorced from all that would follow. We lived in one world before and another the next.
OMG! Thank You so much for posting this video! Some of the Friends moments were funny like when Matthew Perry showed the camera that he had a wedding ring on his hand now since his character is now married.
Interesting too is that David Angell, a passenger on Flight 11, was the creator and executive producer of the hit NBC sitcom "Frasier." Angell entered the Army after graduating from college and served at the Pentagon until 1972. He worked in insurance and engineering before selling a script for a TV series in 1977. With co-supervising producers Peter Casey and David Lee he formed a production company, creating and producing "Wings" in 1990 and "Frasier" in 1993.
thanks for posting and that was really sad that it aired September 10 and never again although i understand y it was. i am like almost crying...oh, the one clip with Megan and Sean where he's playing with her hair, does anyone know what that is from and where i can find it? once again thanks
that can bring tears to my eyes. i mean really that night NOBODY had no clue what we would face the next day. it's almost like that was the last day the world was a little more peaceful.
and that was a good promo... its understandable why they stopped playing that promo... with the tragic events the following day after it first aired... and this was the season where friends was # 1 among all shows :)
oh My....that sent chills up my spine. And what fun to see promos for all my favorite shows that are now off the air. Thanks so much for posting this.
