George sounds like George. Flat 5 and minor 3rd licks and that crazy blues feel...tasty. George kept learning new stuff even though he started gigging in the late 60's. He did the sweep picking arpeggios in 1986-88 and hung out w Tony McAlpine and Vinnie Moore. Glen Tipton fr Priest is another old fart from the 60's that kept up with the modern playing/shredding techniques too.
i have this guitar only one hundred of these ever made and george has one cool.George says that esp was supposed to make a cheaper version of his m1 but esp made a mistake and made them just like his im very lucky to have one.
He's got to stop playing at guitar shops and conventions, he's an amazing player but the guitar shop acoustics and the quality of the recording ruins it!!!!
Lynch is awesome....and he needs to do what he does best...My issue with him is his use of delay in his leads...it muddys up his sound big time. Also he needs to realize he's not a Paul Gilbert...He does something quiet different than Paul. I saw him in the Guitar Generations show with Paul and Richie Kotzen and when he did his thing it sounded great...but then he tried to shred like Paul and Richie and he just sounded really bad. Lynch is a very melodic player and he should stick to that
I talked to george on myspace......he said he feels kinda stagnent.....thats why he formed souls of we....to go in different directions.......hes happy with that now
This reminded me of one of the important reasons why Lynch is absolutely one of the greatest guitarists ever; his rhythm playing kicks ass. Sure...he is a total freak on lead...but that tends to overshadow his very cool riff work. That said, seeing him here reminded me that we're getting freaking old. He's looking pretty rough nowadays. That said, he's still in better physical shape than I was at 20.
@Hertsman50 If you mean music theory, he doesn't have any. Look up the video called " George Lynch Guitar Lessons on Dave Navarro's Spread TV" and he admits he couldn't even tell you what a major scale is! Just a good ear for what sounds good.

I feel bad for him b/c he has developed a back condition that seriously interferes with his playing these days. Its always sad to see when an injury cuts people down. Best to view this w/ that in mind and remember how incredible he used to be. And its not like he sucks now!
I have the same condition - it's called old age ;-) I just look down at the guitar and go, "wait, I *used* to be able to play this, wtf?!" LOL. All kidding aside, I <3 George - legend and really cool guy.

Well after 30 plus years of playing I suppose tone perception fades big time.I have always heard his live tone sucks and I agree.I saw him live in Anahiem and the tone sucked.Great playing though!

This is the LTD model, the easiest way to tell the diffference in these vids where it's hard to see wether it says ESP or LTD on it, is if you look at the body, you'll notice it has a a pretty flat edge all the way around. Whereas the real ESP M1's body has a round or curved edge. This is pretty noticable even from a distance. Yeah, I totally agree. That's why I remarked the way I did, down further. It's really ironic to me, and I'm certainly not going to be foolish enough to second guess my Guitar Hero, Randy Rhoads (!), that Randy referred his students to Lynch when he devoted all of his time to Quiet Riot. Lynch to me just must have a confidence or inspiration problem or something, because he sure isn't lacking in talent, tone or chops. I just honestly don't get it...
First. listen here bitches. George is a great player, with more talent in the crud under his toenails than any of us.
Second. It's not a professional recording, how is a digital camera meant to pick up the tone, the subtleties and nuances of Georges playing through a 50 cent microphone?....Wise up
I am of two minds when it comes to Lynch. On one hand, he has chops, tone, feeling and inventiveness for days, but on the other hand, he hasn't done anything exciting since Lynch Mob. In fact, I think Lynch Mob was in many ways better than Dokken. Certainly the bass and drumming talent! Vocals, Don and Oni are both excellent, so it's hard to compare. Song writing? I'd even give a slight edge to Lynch Mob. What happened to George's playing spirit though? He hasn't sounded inspired in years.
@borntorun1970 Feel ya, the lynch/pilson stuff isn't too shaby, but I thnk Lynch is impossible to work with and that has taking its toll. I read an interesting article with anthony esposito and that seems to be the way of it. I think lynch would put his name on anything that got him in the spotlight and made some dough...I do dig lynch, though.
@borntorun1970 You do, of course, realize that the drummer on the first Lynch Mob album was Mick Brown, don't you? Because Mick Brown is Dokken's drummer as well.
Be patient! George is experimenting with new tones. Remember why he left Dokken in the first place, he got bored with the same old shit. If you listen carefully, he's playing with the natural harmonics within his music. He is an exploritory guitar player, someone who has sacrificed all of the media for self wisdom of the instrument. George doesn't give a F*** what you think, he's in it for himself!
1st comment mustnt have taken: So... Georges new muscle bound life has totally F'd Him Up. He is getting worse and worse as he goes. This isnt bad, but his other newer stuff is totally amatuer. Which is good, because I could take him!ha! So thats good to know that time deteriorates the skill as far as my idol like him. But Id always concede to him because of his staus and legend. Hes george, the best.
Being a Muscle-Head Must have dummed him down? Not bad, but We all know of a better Goerge at many points. Id take him on at any point in his muscle venture. But Id also give way to his stature.
actualy if you listen to the souls of album you may be surprised by his tone!its not nice.lol.He used to be the main man, still great but that majic has gone:( and to the comment below-pros do this for a living and should never have bad days!its their day job!
That was weak. However it's still better than the new Souls of We cd. That is some rancid music; almost as bad as Smoke This. Experimental or not, it sucked. Let's hope his upcoming instrumental cd is back to what we expect from George.
Same here, mines a tiger stripe from the mid 80's. I was told mine was actually his at one time, but I find that hard to believe. I called ESP w/ the serial number but they said they don't keep records of that sort. Wonder if it's worth much these days?
In 1992 I worked on "Tangled In The Web" and "Dream Until Tomorrow" with Producer Keith Olsen. For old times sake I decided to attend a clinic that George did at a local music store a couple of months ago. As a clinician George leaves a lot to be desired but what I did see first-hand is that George has kept up his chops and in fact he played better than I have ever seen him play before. I was very impressed. This video's failure to deliver could be anything, we all have off days. CK
George was the man back in the day, he's definetly not keeping his chops up. I remember reading an interview with him a couple of years ago and he openly stated he wasn't keeping his chops up because he felt no one cared about good guitar playing anymore and he just didn't have it in him anymore to practice all day everday.
Checkout the playlist I put together of his instruction videos to see him in his shredding prime.
are you nut or what???MR SCARY'S GOD!!!I LOVE HIM,BACK IN THE DAYS AND EVEN MORE TODAY my top 5:EVH,Y MALMSTEEN,G LYNCH,PAUL GILBERT,DIMEBAG.full stop
George is definitely keeping his chops up. I can't say the same about Ed. Ed has gotten sloppy, figuring people are just happy to see "Ed". Paul Gilbert, Steve Lukather and Neal Schon and 3 other guitarists keeping their chops up. I encourage everyone to see Journey with Neal Schon. The man's passion and soul comes through those strings and out the amps. Insane!
Yea that is an "in store" LTD copy of his ESP Tiger stripe. LTD did a limited run of those, maybe a thousand?. It has a screamin deamon pup. George was really impressed with them after playing them at the clinics. He ended up buying one. I have heard that ESP may do another run of those guitars. I might get one myself. I think they sell for around a gran.
Maybe it's just the camera mics, but how can his tone become so bad compared to the old days? Everyone wanted the Lynch tone back then, his old modded Marshalls were so good it was silly.
yeah man! he has improved i think, lynch old days were really cool, but now he has more strange sounds and tempos than before! he is the best! a lot of soul, no definate structure, just passion!
What type guitar does George use?

Which is good, because I could take him!ha! So thats good to know that time deteriorates the skill as far as my idol like him. But Id always concede to him because of his staus and legend. Hes george, the best.

Being a Muscle-Head Must have dummed him down? Not bad, but We all know of a better Goerge at many points. Id take him on at any point in his muscle venture. But Id also give way to his stature.

satchbooggy 3 years ago
it is being recorded through a digital camera, not video camera. this is in no way close to his real tone that day.
GRYNreaper001 3 years ago

I have one of his old amplifiers when he played with DOKKEN. It's an old Randall half-stack. Wayyyyy Bad-Ass tone!!

Hey man, you really got one of Georges old rigs?
maxwellthedog 3 years ago
That was weak. However it's still better than the new Souls of We cd. That is some rancid music; almost as bad as Smoke This. Experimental or not, it sucked. Let's hope his upcoming instrumental cd is back to what we expect from George.

Lynch was really much better in the 80s cause now dedicate his time to bodybuilt etc so you have to listen it with Dokken or first Lynch Mob years

I have one of those Striped LTD's and it was signed by George Lynch at a clinic.
SlickEnz 3 years ago

CK

I agree, I just saw George at Rocklahoma on Saturday nite, and he wailed. Such a monster guitar player. There is no one like him, and will never be.

Oh my good god, what happened?!?!
George was the man back in the day, he's definetly not keeping his chops up. I remember reading an interview with him a couple of years ago and he openly stated he wasn't keeping his chops up because he felt no one cared about good guitar playing anymore and he just didn't have it in him anymore to practice all day everday.
Checkout the playlist I put together of his instruction videos to see him in his shredding prime.

its a bout time he got back to playing like this, he lost his mind for a while playing sh*t
I love his style and sound
lrycryl 4 years ago
well, I have to say, when Robert Mason joined Lynch Mob replacing Oni Logan, George had to tune down... and that wasn't good...
NikkieRoxxx 4 years ago
George is definitely keeping his chops up. I can't say the same about Ed. Ed has gotten sloppy, figuring people are just happy to see "Ed". Paul Gilbert, Steve Lukather and Neal Schon and 3 other guitarists keeping their chops up. I encourage everyone to see Journey with Neal Schon. The man's passion and soul comes through those strings and out the amps. Insane!

Very cool!! Must be using a store guitar. That's one of the LTD M-1 Tigers. Still slammin'!!!!!
DoomsdayInc 4 years ago
Yes it is, I live walking distance from that store and have played the amp and guitar many times after he left.
Gregrg7 4 years ago
Yea that is an "in store" LTD copy of his ESP Tiger stripe. LTD did a limited run of those, maybe a thousand?. It has a screamin deamon pup. George was really impressed with them after playing them at the clinics. He ended up buying one. I have heard that ESP may do another run of those guitars. I might get one myself. I think they sell for around a gran.

If only I had the cash to buy his guitar!! It sounds awesome. I guess i'll have to steal one haha!

Maybe it's just the camera mics, but how can his tone become so bad compared to the old days? Everyone wanted the Lynch tone back then, his old modded Marshalls were so good it was silly.
southpaw1969 4 years ago
Yeah I was there... He had everything turned up so loud, guitars were falling off the racks on the wall.
I'm surprised the camera got what it got lol

Lynch losing touch? Absurd...Never! One of the all time greats, and still advancing beyond the realms of excellence and mastery of his instrument.

yeah man! he has improved i think, lynch old days were really cool, but now he has more strange sounds and tempos than before! he is the best! a lot of soul, no definate structure, just passion!
