  • ahem *cough cough*.... wow

  • Charlie couldnt vote for Ron Paul because he was not american

  • If Charlie Chaplin was alive today HE WOULD VOTE FOR RON PAUL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @FRONTBUSHERMEN Duh! Ron Paul 2012!

  • This speech is perhaps the most inspirating thing I've heard.

Maybe democracy will come when all people are free to do whatever they want.Maybe democracy will come when they will learn that the future is up to them.NOT their governments.

Perhaps then we will truly know peace.

  • The best speech of human history!

  • I find it funny that Hitler banned Charlie Chaplin films in Germany after seeing this. Of course the film which was released in 1940 was satirizing Adolf Hitler and Nazism.

  • @hypnotizerequiem U DONT SAY

  • @Pr3cUr5oR There is no need for sarcasm friend. I merely brought up this topic up because I did not see any topics about it on the comment's board. By the way, Hitler's central reason for anger was not that The Great Dictator mocked Nazism or dictators. It was because Chaplin favored him too much!

  • great movie . genius. can you believe many dictators lived since 1940 till now?

  • "Let us fight for a decent world...a world that will give youth a future, men a chance to work, and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power....but they lie..they do not fulfill that promise...and they never will...rulers free themselves, but they enslave the people..."

  • "millions of despairing men, women and little children...victims of a system that makes men torture(gtmo bay, abu graib), and imprison innocent people" (2,000,000 in american jails, more than any country on earth)......

    "GREED HAS POISONED MENS SOULS"

In "gratitude" for his miraculous contributions, the american empire expelled this great man.

  • Hahahaha his gibberish German is so funny especially when he falls down the stairs hahahaha classic

  • The film was really good and the speech at the end amazing

  • Amazing film. Amazing.

  • 4:04

  • I saw this film as a young boy, in the early 1970s. I wasn't able to understand any of it other than the physical comedy. Seeing it today was like seeing it for the first time. What a touching

picture. Chaplin certainly had a lot of guts to produce, direct, and act in it. The speech at the end was his legacy. Here's to this film enduring forever.

  • Is he speaking real german???? At least it sounds like.

  • @euplot Nope. I'm pretty sure the only German word he's saying is 'wienerschnitzel'. He's basically speaking in gibberish, in the style of Hitler.

  • @neosoc Thanks ! It sounds so real. He is so good !

  • @euplot Absolutely :) This film is a masterpiece, one of my favorites!

  • @neosoc Yeap !!! Now mine too :)

  • Love that you uploaded it, seeing as a video of Chaplin's speech in the climax intrigued me so much I decided to see if the whole movie was available here on YouTube. Still, the whole copyright issue concerns me.

  • @superclaydude fuck copyright, this movie should be viewed by everyone.

  • i love you charlie

  • charlie is a best, this is a wery big parody of a hitler

  • "We've just discovered the most wonderful, the most marvelous poisinous gas. It will kill everybody."

  • 4 people tripped on a banana...

  • ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!!

I've never seen this masterpiece so clearly!!!! Thank you soooo much!

At first I thought the sound was too slow, but I do believe now that the MK2 version was sped up slightly....and that THIS is the proper speed...it is like seeing it for the first time!

    Thank you so much!!!

    Viva Charlie!!!!!!!!!!

  • Best movie ever. I am not an arian , i am a vegetarian, hehehehehehehe !!!!!!

  • The words of the Barber ring true today.

    Unite.

  • About the chaplin's speech at the end: it's true, we humans should rise above our hatred, aggression, violence, greed, jealousy, and all our destructive instincts in order to live peacefully among each other. peace on earth is only possible if all of us achieve such higher mentality and understanding.

  • Excellent!

  • The scene starting around 30:15 is hilarious.

  • one of the greatest films of all time

  • Lol

    00:21:39

    da banana???

    du banana???(The banana???)xD

  • THANKS SO MUCH

  • Thanks for the upload :)

  • 1:41:53 hahahaha I can't help how humorous a dictator can seem and klajc;fkladhg

  • 0:04:15 xD Hilarious!

  • 3 dislikes...you haters

  • This was a fantastic film. Near the end, during the speech, I felt a bit lost due to his lack of character but his passion and it's simply amazing. I love how much humor they incorporated into the film, leaving no prolonged drama at least until the end. Fantastic film.

  • Only fascists can dislike this outstanding movie, done by the master itself.

  • it was your comment " If this is Jewish propaganda. I want more "

  • Only Charlie Chaplin can make Fascism slightly adorable.

  • Another Jewish propaganda

  • @Salahuddin2009a If this is Jewish propaganda, give me more...

  • @Lishy1 why would you want more if it was Jewish propaganda?

  • @alanbstard4 Well why not? What's bad about the speech?

  • @Lishy1 no no. Back to your statement. If it's Jewish propaganda, why would you want it?

  • @alanbstard4 Well if this is "Jewish" "Propaganda", how is it bad propaganda?

  • @Lishy1 because they tell lies. Propaganda from whomever is by definition a lie.

  • @alanbstard4 Actually propaganda means "Information, esp. of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view."

I still don't understand what you're trying to say. The Great Dictator is telling a lie on.. What exactly?

  • @alanbstard4 Propaganda isn't always a lie. A poster saying, for instance, "Canada needs strong men NOW to fight the Facist INVADERS! - Sign up before they invade YOUR home!" isn't a lie, it's just stupid.

  • LOL Part One Of One

  • Do not SOPA this plzzz

  • @russellmd96

    what is SOPA?

  • @adiprenne2006 A bill that would censor the internet (in the most basic way to explain it)

  • @russellmd96

    aha. thank you

  • That clean lady looks so hot! Too bad she is dead by now.

  • I am only 5 minutes into this movie and there was nothing funny at all about WW1.

  • This movie is a timeless classic.

PLEASE don't remove this for copyright, youtube! This is a very important relic!

  • I suggest you download it from here asap and archive it.

  • @Lishy1 How about you just buy it? It was re-released on Blu-Ray.

  • @Lishy1 It's seventy years old. Everyone who's made this film and their children have passed away.

    What copyright still applies ?

  • @needtoalwayslearn The parent company who still "owns" it >=(

  • that speech is powerful. why isn't it working on people?!

  • @marija1971 My theory from this video's comments? People are naive, and David Duke wanted to make a quick buck. So one thing led to another, and people now believe Charlie Chaplin is part is some zionist conspiracy to take over the world and exterminate 90% of the population they worship Satan.

No, seriously... I'm not kidding you. They actually believe that!

Course, even in the world of conspiracy theories, it's ridiculous considering Charlie Chaplin has no ties to Bilderberg.

  • @Lishy1 who knows?

  • never lose this film. <3

I don't see how after the world was shown the horrors of WWII, that this film's ending message couldn't become reality...

Few are still fighting for the free and beautiful world. But governments are pushing for more war and resources to benefit themselves...

  • @RolyatDerTeufel It could become reality if Ron Paul became president. He's the only notable one in America who carries the beacon of Charlie Chaplin's message of peace.

  • Awesome print.....could u post a link of a suitable subtitle??? thanx :)

  • Boring or what sorry but there u go give me Stan and Ollie any day

  • God bless you. Spectacular quality that you don't often see on YouTube. Thanks!!

  • Hynkel's laugh. Love it.

  • I love Hynkel's laugh.

  • I love the Dictator's laugh.

  • 1:27:13

    So funny

  • Sacha Baron Cohens The Dictator must be inspired by this one.

  • I've always been a Charlie Chaplin fan, but have only seen bits and pieces of "The Great Dictator" until now, so it is much appreciated, thanks! While I was watching Charlie in this "talky" movie, he really started to remind me of Mike Myers. They even look very similar. I guess he was the Mike Myers of his time and Mike Myers is the Charlie Chaplin of our time. Thanks again.

  • I miss you Chaplin .... God please give us Charlie back and take Justin bieber away...Such a fine movie....Bravo!!! world salutes you !!!

  • mhm.. needed to watch this video for school, thanks for uploading.. so i dont have to buy to movie!! thanks man!

  • Thank you for posting. I never had the chance to see this film before. It is a powerful film.

The one thing that threw me off was that they put Mussolini in the role of Stalin. If Austerlitz is supposed to be Poland, then "Napoloni" should be Stalin, not Il Duce.

  • For many years I have wrong about what thi s film was like I had a vague impression of what it was like, that Charlie Chaplin impersonated an Adolf Hitler character now I see that it is "must watch" film. I was drawn to it because of the you Tube clip I saw a few days ago. I wondered if it was really his words from the film because I found them very moving, I thought they must be adopted to go with the film footage. I was pleasantly surprised to find that is exactly the same in the film

  • Thank you for uploading this! Charlie did a beautiful job as always; even his dictator was "scary"! Nice to also see him in the Tramp costume one last time, even though the barber was not called that (the "Tramp" could never speak, Chaplin said).

  • SuperSecretp you are the man. I don't know if u r a guy or a girl, but I don't care I love u lol nd thanx 4 all this gr8 films.

  • 0:00 when credits mattered

  • The last speech of this movie is so powerful and meaningful.

I don't think people truly knew how right he was.

"Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people! Now let us fight to fulfill that promise! Let us fight to free the world! To do away with national barriers! To do away with greed, with hate and intolerance!"

    Makes me cry... every time.

  • Thank you !

  • Loved it very much! Thank you very much!!!

  • jfkldsaj "How's the gas?" "Terrible it kept me up all night."

  • If it was to be the end of the tramp, then by god it was going to be one hell of an end!

  • 31:16-the best walk ever!!!
