@Aerialgrrl indeed. She says she was terrified when she came out because they wouldn't let all her band come out, so when she was rushing to the stage the band that played with her was the generic TOTP band.

According to a bio, this performance was a nightmare for Kate. A stringent Musician's Union regulation prohibited her from using her own band and they stood helplessly in the wings as she sang with the TOTP house band playing their generic version. She later said that watching this performance is "like watching myself die." She was only 19 when this was aired.

I've watched many videos of her performing on stage/tv but this is probably the first time I've seen her "Live." But I thought Iron Maiden was the first act since the who (in 72) to perform live on top of the pops. (in 1980.) Oh well a great performance
