Chomsky is inserting his opinion when he says that Madison thought the "primary goal" of government was to Protect the opulent from the majority. In fact in context Madison used an Analogy that if all people in England were to vote equally then the result would be land divided up and given to the poor (socialism). So Madison thought that democracy could lead to this type of Socialism and now Senators and the Electoral college reflect this balance of power. To say "Primary goal" is misleading.

So Americans wake up!!!!!! If the debt problem.... defaults on loans...happens your life will change......forget the extras in life...you will be happy to just get the basics.
The USA is not the greatest country in the world. A divided government will not succeed. I think the forefathers said that. No decent healthcare plan , bridges falling apart, education falling in world ranking, US foreign policy pissing off the rest of the world, the rich get richer, poorer get poorer, falling in life quality rankings......it's like a nice shiny molar tooth....shiny and powerful on the outside but decaying on the inside...just a matter of time until it crumbles.
@rhett7777gg i agre brother. It's an illusion the media and govt tries to feed us with. European countries, Australia and many otehr countries have better living conditions. Cuba has better life except the blockade has hurt them. they have free health coverage, education, free daycare and much more. it also has most doctors, professors and teachers by percentage and highest literacy rate.
@comusnine That's the point. He stated in 'Manufacturing Consent': "Now, if you ask which kind of media is the "right" sort of media that informs the public and allows meaningful control that they want, first off, I wouldn't tell you that. I really don't think there's an answer. The answers are what you feel they are to inform yourself." Chomsky is an informer, but the public must ultimately decide how to rearrange their society. The activism and work is in their court. They have to think how.
America is a republic in the form of a Liberal Democracy. That the people have the Constitutional Right to live their own lives. Without being harassed by government. And we have Constitutional Rights to protect this. America is not a Majoritarian Democracy or a Socialist Democracy. That we see in Europe.
lol it's true no one gives a rat's ass about politics. I mean there's basically only two parties likely of winning an election. And both parties seem very similar- they spread lies of doing things they think the public will like and then they don't pursue it.
Both parties usually have no good candidate- people usually don't like either. So, they'd rather stay at home because they know their vote doesn't matter and won't make any difference. Both parties basically act the same.
the republicans are absolutely not of the conservative class. there is no conservative class. just those who say they are of it. read his literature. they are both of the BUSINESS class. those are our only options.
We are the downtrodden, we are the underdogs and for centuries a small group of Europeans have raped and pillaged the world all in the name of feeding their infinite appetites. When will it end? When will we stop working for these psychopaths and realize they don't have our best interests at heart. When will we take down the powers to be and reclaim what was stolen from us?
They took over our lands exploited our resources and forced our parents to work for them all in the name of multiculturalism. This modern day slavish existence is what the powers to be have created and tricked us into thinking otherwise with bullshit ideas of equality, democracy and a better life. Privilege will always be held by the elites, our political representatives are white men who rule over a country of immigrants who work for them.
The main point, and it's true: Capitalism is an economic system - it's got nothing to do with Democracy, which is a political system. There's nothing democratic, for example, about a corporation.
People need to get a clue. The Government is the Public Relations Dept. of Big Power and Money.
EconomyFree's newest video is a sarcastic political conversation. For those of you looking for a laugh, visit this channel and watch, "Political Conversation".
We will never have true representation as long as there is a need to campaign to get elected. The amount of money that has to be spent is so massive that only corporate sponsored candidates have a chance of being notices. When they get elected whether Dem or Rep or they now belong to the big spenders who put them in office In addition anyone who seeks out that type of power shouldn't be trusted with it. We end up with massive egos doing the work of the big corporations.
@woodoocaja I worked in Kosovo as a UN peace keeper after NATO...don't change history! the serbs are very nationalistic (such as the Russians) they systematically obliterate the muslim pop because of hatred and battles that occured 700- 800 yrs ago and the fact that muslim were becoming more numerous then they were due to stronger natality rate, they were out voting the serbs, who were becoming more and more a minority in Kosovo...but yes KLA did find illegal ways of raising money for war
Refreshing to hear someone with straight forward talk...who actually make sense! I'll send a copy to Sarah Palin... for the benifit of all the idiots following her wagon...
UGH - everything this man says boils down to class warfare. Rich vs. poor. He totally ignores the economic upward mobility that Capitalism allows. Like most on the left, he preaches victimhood and envy.
The fruits of my labor are mine, and the fruits of your labor are yours, and honestly, it is none of Chomsky's business.
@heathermgilbert How is he ignoring the "economic upward mobility that capitalism allows"? That doesn't preclude the idea of class warfare.
The point of much of his work, furthermore, is to show how that ability is suppressed. The fruits of your labor SHOULD be yours -- the point is that they're not. How've you missed this?
@Style386 Uh, this country is a republic. Say the pledge of the allegiance and you will get to the part where it says "And to the republic in which it stands". Also you can research it online or go to any valid history book, it will say this a republic.
Capitalism is the historic evolution of private property relationship of alienation, exploitation and suffering of humanity in a modality of commodity production for abstract process of capital accumulation and concentration . A system of wage slavery in an employment system of suppression and dehumanistion. We need to transcend this false limits to our creative cooperative energies for a moneyless, classless, stateless communities of humanity . Capitalism is evil
Despite being a Capitalist myself, I agree with you. So, throw away your computer, your cell-phone, and any other electronic goodies you might own, exchange your clothes for rags, drive your car into a lake, quit your job, empty your bank account, book a one-way ticket to Saudi Arabia and leave us evil Capitalists alone.
I mean, someone's gotta go first, right? Lead the way, "humanitarian."
When he said that 75% of Americans on the eve of the 2000 election didn't even know that there was an election the next day, I almost fell off my rocker.
Dr. Chomsky recently told Iranian TV that at the time the US attacked Afganistan, they had no evidence that al Qaeda was guilty. See my video "Chomsky on Faith-based Wars and 9/11"

The most intelligent mind of our time. "The primary goal of government is to protect the minority of the opulent against the majority"...........This is the most intelligent and important statement ever imparted to the masses.
@computervoyeur LOL MANY PEOPLE HAVE THESE OPINIONS BUT THEY WOULD BE ATTACKED AS RACIST BY NUMEROUS GOVERNMENT SPONSERED JEW GROUPS RUINING THEIR LIVES ....ONLY THE JEW CAN OPINE AGAINST THE JEW.
@computervoyeur Agreed. Unfortunately most don't even realize this very statement is made in the treatise of modern modern capitalism: "Civil government, so far as it is instituted for the security of property, is in reality instituted for the defence of the rich against the poor, or of those who have some property against those who have none at all." - Adam Smith from 'Wealth of Nations' 1775
the democrats and the republicants are both part of the conservative brand. I think the idea of the US as the model for all democracies has always been a big illusion and people just would like to avoid the issue. We live in an age of self-dellusion.
@Regenmacher175 It is not so much they are part of conservative brand but they have become home for so-called singular political ideologies. The Republican party is the home to rightwing forces: so-called Libertarians, religious fanatics and fiscal tightwads and Demcorats are the home to so-called left-wing forces: Progressives, unions, women's and ethnic and racial minority groups.
Both parties are big tents.
They share the commonality to adherence to capital and power.
@Regenmacher175 i think your backwards my friend Niether are part of the Conservative Brand...What is Conservative about Bailing out banks and other companies, what is conservative about a Central Bank? these things are NOT CAPITALISM you can not find one Free Market Economist who Advocates a Central Bank, for it is the AntiThesis of Capitalism and Free Markets. Stop playing the media Talking points, this is not Conservative this is Not Liberal this IS COLLECTIVISM and Oligarchy
@ThompsonThaler i'm not a communist. I'm an anarchsit but i can tell that you are defending the illusion of your authoritarian "democracy". And in case you can't tell: that's a paradox. I'm saying democrats are less conservative than republicans (who've all just gone insane at this point) and just because you call me a douche it doesn't make me one. You don't have one argument that supports your defense of this fake freedom of yours. If the US were really that great you'd have decent healthcare.
@Neidhardt84 i don't think that is entirely true. communism is aout progressively getting rid of your state institutions but anarchsists want to hold their government accountable and if it cannot legitimize its powers or the violence it uses they want to get rid of it immediately; there are many versions of anarchism: green anarchism, revolutionary anarchism, pacifist-anarchism. there are probably as many interpretations as there are people. it's not chaos: it's order without a state.
@Regenmacher175 Yes, communism is the next stage after socialism, so in this sense, you're right about the "progressively getting rid of your state institutions" part. While it's true that anarchism does not represent a single theory, anarcho-syndicalism could be considered as an updated version of 19th century anarchism. It already wants to get it of the state. They recognized that authority needs legitimation and I think it's been pretty clear that state is obsolete a long time ago.
@Regenmacher175 Ah yes but rich Americans, or those they need to perpetuate their own power (the military for example) have the most expensive health care in the world. The poor are not true citizens, just expendable waste, to be crushed underfoot or sent off to other countries to seize resources and territory. America is an example of everything wrong with the West, and yet they want to rule the world. Fucking scary really as they seem to worship serial and mass murderers like George Bush.
@SmileyGarrish People don't worship george bush here. The corporate govt that has taken over the country is the problem. The purpose of govt, under the constitution is to protect individual rights....The price of health care is high because it is partially paid for by the govt (medicare/medicade) this has driven the cost up. It is an insurance company scam...if we revert back to the constitution, and remove corporate control the US will be a great country again.most hate the govt
@rogerable77 Corporations and wealthy individuals have always (since the beginning of their existence) attempted to shape policy in their favor. It is not a new phenomenon; Albeit industrialization accelerated it (due to the necessity of accumulation/concentration brought about by capital intensive industry).
@rogerable77 Other issue; Our healthcare here in Canada is mostly fully paid by the government (with small exceptions such as dental) and yet we only spend 10% of GDP on it (compared with your 16-17% of GDP).
@rogerable77 The Vast Majority has been entirely irrelevant throughout American History, and by that I mean what actually happened and why, not what you and the vast majority think happened. America was born destroying treaties and established law; the 'founding fathers' fought the British only so that they themselves could become Dark OverLords, exploiting and abusing their own people. The foreign policy of these same people has been one of deceit, betrayal, murder, and mass collateral damage.
@BryanB02 if you are talking about Chomsky I don't know. But if you mean the guy I was responding to then I have to disagree: it's a fake democracy of people who think they are entitled to give their opinion on everything, even if it's an obnoxious, uninformed opinion. Also, if you look closely you will notice that complaints from corporations over copyrights sometimes lead to youtube accounts being closed. I would say youtube bows down to corporate interests, which is against democracy anyway.
@Regenmacher175 i was talking about how solid your opinion was while having the most upvotes, the democracy part was a reference to the video, damn dude.
@TheLiteraturist I am more of a pacifist anarchist. maybe anarcho-syndicalist. I oppose violence as a means to fight violence but i fear that civil disobedience, while useful if many people do it, will not be enough to change the current power structure in the United States. I despise any fomr of corporation and the capitalist system, which is not to say that I want communism but responsible spending would be nice. Any kind of authority needs to prove its legitimacy. That's me in a nutshell.
@Regenmacher175 Thank you for clarifying that for me. Usually when I think anarchist I think of the stereotypical 'down with the man, any means necessary' archetype - a label that from what you just told me does not fit you. Thanks for the info.
@TheLiteraturist There are as many traditions within Anarchism (several styles and leanings) as there are thinkers that are "Anarchist" (which number in the hundreds, including Chomsky) that wrote about the topic. If you're curious, the best introductory book to Anarchism that's serious that I ever read was "Anarchism" by Dr. Daniel Guerin. There's an intro to it from Chomsky too, I think. Can't remember. Basic enough in the beginning but gets richer and more complex as its read. Just an idea.
We don't even have what you would call a true democracy here. A true democracy would make it where everyone's voice mattered, not how we have it where no one except for the elite can make the decisions that effect everyone.
Not only do we not have decent healthcare here, we also have terrible schools. My little brother is in 6th grade, and he's just learning things that I had already known by the end of 4th grade. This was only 8 years ago, so that failed fast
@Regenmacher175 Unlike Marxists, anarchists say "Communism now". But let's not be naive because it's not possible without Marx's sharp economical analyses. Read Rudolf Rocker to understand modern anarchist ideas better because I refuse to play the smartass here on Youtube. As for green anarchism and other trends, they cannot be taken serious. Some of them go that far to call for a return to stone age and that's quite the opposite of anarchism/anarcho-syndicalism which is intended as a....

Capitalism in any form, Statist or Corporatist is the denial of our common humanity in a politically manipulated, tyrannical armed MARKET SYSYTEM of artificial scarcity that is designed to perpetuate the enslavement of immense humanity for material interest of the criminal ruling elite.
Read my post carefully (sorry for the confusion) and you will see it is about GnomeChomsky99 characterization. I am already familiar with the libertarian socialist position. And though the countries posted are not stateless societies void of property in the means of production etc. (A possible semi-definition of Libertarian (anarchistic) socialism ) they are there to express the failure of systems devoid of capitalism as an economic theory. Perhaps you believe otherwise, but what is possible?I
I'm an anarcho-capitalist, so Noam and I differ on economic views, but I think we can all agree that the State is what has to go. The rest will come after nothing is forced.

A socio-economic modality of production for profit as the sole consideration with devastating consequences of perpetual war, enviornmental destructions, animalcruelty and sufffering, a social reality of fear, insecurity, devaluation and dehumanisation.

@dahoeb Capitalism also has been mathematically proven by economists and number theorists and ecologists to fail because it requires an UNLIMITED amount of resources for ever-expansion...and you can't get that on a FINITE planet. It's just impossible. As for what system? Any that lowers population, gets a PROPER Energy movement started, PROPER Green movement started, minimizes corporate protection (if not eliminate), and raises education, happiness, and health standards. Anarchism included.
“in comparison to the conditions imposed by US tyranny and violence, East Europe under Russian rule was practically a paradise.” -Chomsky, Communist Sympathizer
,and reap the high profits. Regarding goods, the need to buy unnecessary goods and perpetuate strict capitalist-consumer economies requires consistent propaganda, ads, and thought control. Designed by Psychologists working for corporations to create waves of consumption for goods that aren't even wanted, this model is then swayed to the public to create fertile environments for worrying about the unnecessary things in life and fashionable consumption patterns. All internal biz books.
@dahoeb From much research it appears that the reason capitalism is to blame for your so called "3rd world failed countries" is because they had to suffer from capitalist integration instead of running their own countries and their own lives. Free-trade economics means Western corporations put their factories in economies that have been destabilized via hidden government-sponsored wars and client-state sponsored terror. Then, they take advantage of all the cheap labor pay them nothing.....
@dahoeb And by the way, not EVERYTHING came from capitalism. Insulin came from a SOCIALIST country, so did the TELEPHONE, the two way radio came from a SOCIALIST country, as was the hydrofoil.
On a side note, have you noticed that the rest of the socialist world is virtually forcing socialist change upon the USA?Things are going to change drastically in the comming years of our lifetimes. And i fear we wont accept it nor put up with it for very long.
@dahoeb haha the guy sitting on top doesnt do ALL the work fuck face and thats where the profit goes. so in one sentence, CAPITALISM STILL DOESNT WORK FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON!!! But thats alright because soon it will be replaced in the USA with something very special that has been in the works for a century. You'll see it soon, and then the people can bicker amongst themselves for another few decades while we design the next improved system.
@austinjhammer I haven't even gotten into how fubar initiatives can be if not handled properly, or voter fraud, lack of knowledge the public has on issues, lack of time the public has to vote on issues, etc. There are reasons why no country on earth practices pure democracy.
@austinjhammer That's why countries in Europe have and some still are adopting things like written constitutions to limit power and provide basic rules in governing countries. They have also adopted Judicial Review from the United States to see what is within the powers of government. The reason why they have adopted these things is to prevent therise of future authoritarian governments that have plagued Europes history. As nice as democracy sounds it does need to be tempered.
@austinjhammer The court system did in the 19th century I never denied that now did I? I stated clearly that the undemocratic court system ended segragation and got rid of institutionalized racism by state governments...that and the U.S. army showing up to intergrate the schools which is also undemocratic. Demcracy simply means rule by the people. Alone it doesn't do jack shit for civil liberties and the purer the democracy the more likely it will infringe on civil liberties.
A moneyless, classless, stateless communities of humanity expressing our freedom in creative harmonious cooperation for a world that is so POTENTIALLY AND ACTUALLY nourishing. Capitalism in any form, Statist or Corporatist is the denial of our common humanity in a politically manipulated, tyrannical armed MARKET SYSYTEM of artificial scarcity that is designed to perpetuate the enslavement of immense humanity for material interest of the criminal ruling elite.
@KIERAN11872 You cant fix it. Leave them alone, the only solution is to allow their demise to proceed as scheduled. Dont bother helping them, there isnt 10% of them that are willing to help themselves, so why should you bother helping? Ive given up and turned my sights to those i hold dearest. Im armed and ready for anything and i also live off my land, hunt, fish and garden.
The most technology i have in my home is a computer, i dont have satellite or cable TV, and look! Im not materialistic!
The grumpy old fart Noam does have his uses, believe it or not: he is the perfect litmus test for truth. Listen to anything he has to say about anything, take the exact opposite, and voila: that is the truth.
@daho Of course, the hallmark of Capitalism is Minority control,Money,State and production with a view to make a profit. Your world-view is subjective and engineered by your ruling elite to contain you and millions of others for a life of wage slavery in a Market system of political manipulation, artificial scarciity and dehumanisation. Capitalism doesnt work, it destroyes our natural habitat, devalues all life, creates War,produces rubbish for consumption ,alienates our common humanity and more
I wouldn't exactly call it "wage slavery". I don't see anything wrong with having to work for a living, because everything takes time and energy to produce. Capitalism has created many fantastic things because it motivates people to work hard for profit. I agree that it is by no means perfect and still has plenty of room for adjustment, I think that Capitalism with the proper restrains can be very effective. I believe that Communism is ineffective and undesirable, what system do you suggest?
Probably the greatest insult this childish stalker has done is to perpetrate the hoax that I, TemplarLeonem, would mealymouth such progressive spew.

They have to think how.

lol it's true no one gives a rat's ass about politics.

@Regenmacher175 Anarchism is the true communism.
Neidhardt84 10 months ago
@Neidhardt84 i don't think that is entirely true. communism is aout progressively getting rid of your state institutions but anarchsists want to hold their government accountable and if it cannot legitimize its powers or the violence it uses they want to get rid of it immediately; there are many versions of anarchism: green anarchism, revolutionary anarchism, pacifist-anarchism. there are probably as many interpretations as there are people. it's not chaos: it's order without a state.
Regenmacher175 10 months ago

SmileyGarrish 7 months ago 10
@SmileyGarrish People don't worship george bush here. The corporate govt that has taken over the country is the problem. The purpose of govt, under the constitution is to protect individual rights....The price of health care is high because it is partially paid for by the govt (medicare/medicade) this has driven the cost up. It is an insurance company scam...if we revert back to the constitution, and remove corporate control the US will be a great country again.most hate the govt

BryanB02 6 months ago
@BryanB02 if you are talking about Chomsky I don't know. But if you mean the guy I was responding to then I have to disagree: it's a fake democracy of people who think they are entitled to give their opinion on everything, even if it's an obnoxious, uninformed opinion. Also, if you look closely you will notice that complaints from corporations over copyrights sometimes lead to youtube accounts being closed. I would say youtube bows down to corporate interests, which is against democracy anyway.
Regenmacher175 6 months ago

BryanB02 6 months ago
@Regenmacher175 As an anarchist, how do you define yourself?
TheLiteraturist 6 months ago
@TheLiteraturist I am more of a pacifist anarchist. maybe anarcho-syndicalist. I oppose violence as a means to fight violence but i fear that civil disobedience, while useful if many people do it, will not be enough to change the current power structure in the United States. I despise any fomr of corporation and the capitalist system, which is not to say that I want communism but responsible spending would be nice. Any kind of authority needs to prove its legitimacy. That's me in a nutshell.
Regenmacher175 6 months ago
@Regenmacher175 Thank you for clarifying that for me. Usually when I think anarchist I think of the stereotypical 'down with the man, any means necessary' archetype - a label that from what you just told me does not fit you. Thanks for the info.
TheLiteraturist 6 months ago
@TheLiteraturist There are as many traditions within Anarchism (several styles and leanings) as there are thinkers that are "Anarchist" (which number in the hundreds, including Chomsky) that wrote about the topic. If you're curious, the best introductory book to Anarchism that's serious that I ever read was "Anarchism" by Dr. Daniel Guerin. There's an intro to it from Chomsky too, I think. Can't remember. Basic enough in the beginning but gets richer and more complex as its read. Just an idea.

@austinjhammer I haven't even gotten into how fubar initiatives can be if not handled properly, or voter fraud, lack of knowledge the public has on issues, lack of time the public has to vote on issues, etc. There are reasons why no country on earth practices pure democracy.
cwa1984 1 year ago
@austinjhammer That's why countries in Europe have and some still are adopting things like written constitutions to limit power and provide basic rules in governing countries. They have also adopted Judicial Review from the United States to see what is within the powers of government. The reason why they have adopted these things is to prevent therise of future authoritarian governments that have plagued Europes history. As nice as democracy sounds it does need to be tempered.
cwa1984 1 year ago
@austinjhammer The court system did in the 19th century I never denied that now did I? I stated clearly that the undemocratic court system ended segragation and got rid of institutionalized racism by state governments...that and the U.S. army showing up to intergrate the schools which is also undemocratic. Demcracy simply means rule by the people. Alone it doesn't do jack shit for civil liberties and the purer the democracy the more likely it will infringe on civil liberties.

He is a perfectly oiled bullshit-machine.

"Some of the people in it may be corrupt and take advantage, but thats the fault of the person, not the system."
But for some, the system itself corrupts people by putting them into powerful low-transparency situations..
CEO's of major companies are often surrounded by people who will constantly push them to maximize profit, often to the detriment of society.
Similar to a major politician. The higher you go, the less transparency coupled with increased power incentivize corruption.
