This is an amazing movie and a truly inspiring story and ending. A real tear-jerker.

In the beginning I thought it bore a semblance to King Lear by Shakespeare. But in the end i thought it had a more elaborate plot; a continuation to the ending of the play

Rose protected her daughters ...Rose kept her precious innocent daughters safe from the predatory male... ...in my mind that was an accomplishment worthy of mention

a fine adaptation of the novel, but there are a few unwanted alterations. 1) Ginny eventually wound up hating Rose and tried to poison her, 2) Pete and Ty were deeper characters, 3) Ginny was not so optimistic at the story's close, 4) the preacher and Marv Carson had more important roles

the book was waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy more dramatic and violent....there was much more hate and intrigue....and every thing that happened had a specific purpose...ginny ended up hating rose

@giggiwearsprada very sad. I never read the book so I didn't know I was in for such a depressing movie. good yet depressing. put me in mind of bridges of madison county in the fact that it got pretty moody yet people enjoyed that movie. I admit I was sucked into both movies.
