I believe Liu Hailong is a very strong fighter. BUT he is not trained in any particular form. hence he uses Sanshou. From looking at the videos only, my conclusion is he wins by points (and throws) but the damage caused may not be as server as Muay Thai. This is NOT the Sak i have ever seen, infact this isn't even 10% of the Sak in his fight against Dekkers. 23 rd September, Bak Wan San: 7 matched between Thai (thanks for your correction) and Chinese. Both of the team were free to use elbow and knee, throwing and so on...The result have been respectively 2-5. I agree too. the Chinese judges were not completely fair but this matter couldn`t have taken much from the result. In my opinion the Chinese team deserved to win cos they have faced the match with much more humbleness. I think that is what the Thai team was lacking that night.
Guys, I have to admit the first few events between China vs Thailand were not fair to the Thai in terms of the rules, but the later ones in Guangzhou and Bangkok allowing elbows as well as throws were more even and I think you gota credit for the Chinese to improve in such a short time.

Both of them use knee and elbows as base striking. In sanda there are less chances to get hurt because of the rules they use. In Guangzhou the Thay boxing team lost 5-2. In Thailand the Chinese team lost 4-1. This proves the systems are very close to each other and if you`d practiced them you have known.
Anw, I love both Thai boxing and Sanda, i just believe that is the man to make the style, not the style to make the man. The best match has been Liu Hailong-Lukpoei Grabangkoei. Chinese kung fu lost all the competitions against muay thai until sanshou started using wrestling. A good grappler will simply nullify a better striker. Liu Hailong isn't even close to the strking skill of a thai boxer, but his wrestling gives him the edge.

See Chinese wushu is trained to kick at lightning speed at any body part of enemy body, when only certain portions of body are allowed, speed is useless any more, cause your enemy 2 hands are enough to cover all those parts that are allowed.

That is because Chinese kungfu is not designed for playing games in a ring with all critical head and rib parts forbidden, and Iron Sanded Claws wrapped up in thick cushions, and movements restricted to a ring where a flying kick would send yourself out of the ring. Until a new art of game is designed, most kungfu players just havent figured out how to played a game.

No, because kungfu guys are not as good at punching, kicking, elbows, and knees. They have less practice against actually resisting opponents in that regard, so they were not prepared for it. These sanda guys would also beat the hell out of most kung fu practicioners for the same reason.

If you fucking watch the fight, neither fighter comes remotely close enough to BE ABLE TO THROW A KNEE, ELBOW, OR CLINCH. This fight is fought at a distance. Clinch is of course not muay, they are hundreds of schools of art of finding in China, some specialized using palm of hand, making it as sharp hard as knife, some special in attacking human artery points, and so on, there are of course specialized in clinches. Just you muay thai marketing it internal thru games.
Where in the past Chinese attitude was trying to keep it secret event only within their own school, let alone letting foreigners' learn it.

Another thing: Hailong was badly gassed by round 3 and every time he made a strenuous attempt at a throw, the referee took forever to re-start the action, fiddling with Robert's elbow pads and otherwise wasting as much time as possible to help Liu catch his breath. It was absurd.
Seriously, these MT vs Sanda events are not sport - they are dishonest propaganda exercises.

Hailong was clearly much heavier. Around that time, Robert was fighting at what? 66 kgs? There is a reason why there are weight classes in combat sport.. Maybe Pajunsuk would be a better-sized opponent for Hailong.

Everyone makes excuses when China wins, but the fact is simple geometry, their technicques counter thai techniques. This isnt the first time liu has destroyed thai boxers, so have many other Sanda fighters, so much so that the thais have started using some sanda techniques and principles.

Robert Kaenorrasing (Jockey Gym) the one in the red bull shorts was one of thailand's best Muay Thai fighters, he took this fight even though Liu Hailong outweighed him by 45lbs! This is what the chinese promoters were doing to make their fighters look much better to the viewing audience, had they matched Somphet with any one his weight class, somphet would have destroyed them!!

I believe Liu Hailong is a very strong fighter. BUT he is not trained in any particular form. hence he uses Sanshou. From looking at the videos only, my conclusion is he wins by points (and throws) but the damage caused may not be as server as Muay Thai. Please refer to Wikipedia for more information on Sanshou/Sanda
Regardless, both are very strong fighters.

I've been watching lots of sanda vs muay thai and there's just one thing i don't understand. How come all the thai fighters look like they're not trying at all? This is NOT the Sak i have ever seen, infact this isn't even 10% of the Sak in his fight against Dekkers. I also watched Samkor lose to some other guy...can someone please tell me if the chinese are paying thai fighters to lose purposely? These fights are rediculous...

I am Italian and I got defeated 1 to 1 by one of my boxing buddies and he`s Chinese. They never claim anything about Nepal. I believe you got some ethnical problems with Chinese people, maybe some Chinese guys did bad stuff to you. Your hate is clear and, talking about Buddha, they never said they created buddhism, there is branch of Buddhism called C`han (which is Indian derivation and spread in China during Ming dynasty).

23 rd September, Bak Wan San: 7 matched between Thai (thanks for your correction) and Chinese. Both of the team were free to use elbow and knee, throwing and so on...The result have been respectively 2-5. I agree too. the Chinese judges were not completely fair but this matter couldn`t have taken much from the result. In my opinion the Chinese team deserved to win cos they have faced the match with much more humbleness. I think that is what the Thai team was lacking that night.

Guys, I have to admit the first few events between China vs Thailand were not fair to the Thai in terms of the rules, but the later ones in Guangzhou and Bangkok allowing elbows as well as throws were more even and I think you gota credit for the Chinese to improve in such a short time.

I have trained in Boran and Burmese boxing. At the moment I`m training in Baji quan. I believe you hate Chinese people or something similar cos you don`t have any knowledge about the root of martial arts. In Asia, more than 90% of the styles are originated from China. An example: the Okinawa Karate is originated from a southern Shaolin Style called Baihe .there is no geographical border which can be used to claim one style is better than another.

You are referring to the statue of Bodhidarma (or Tamo) which is the creator of Shaolin and from which every martial arts has been originated. Before talking, please get informed. Btw, if you want to be successful in the martial arts field, then learn to respect others, this is merely a suggestion. For the fighting matter, when US team went to China, US lost completly. It is not because their skill was not good, it is because they were much more slower and weaker. Their training has been wrong. This year US improved a lot. Hope to see them doing better next time.

i practice thay boxing and burmese. What you are saying proves you have no knowledge about that. Sanda and thay boxing are very similar, the only difference is the rules of the challenge. Both of them use knee and elbows as base striking. In sanda there are less chances to get hurt because of the rules they use. In Guangzhou the Thay boxing team lost 5-2. In Thailand the Chinese team lost 4-1. This proves the systems are very close to each other and if you`d practiced them you have known.

Anw, I love both Thai boxing and Sanda, i just believe that is the man to make the style, not the style to make the man. The best match has been Liu Hailong-Lukpoei Grabangkoei. Great fight, great fighters...real ones. The challenge has proved that the real knowledge is beyond ethnical hate and favoritism.

sanshou existed back during the KMT days, it was part of the military ciriculum in China's first modern military academy (about 1920). 1993 is when Sport Sanshou started.
