...so Mars was once much warmer than it is now, and we know from earth history that it was once a giant snowball. Does our sun go through more extremes in power output than is generally believed?
@robinsgirlwonder well if they where made by lava my opinion is that it dried up and disappeared a long time ago then the water molecules built up over time and then froze in the trenches
Yes, the energy output from the sun was far higher, once. That lead to tropical conditions ALL OVER Earth allowing for large creatures like dinosaurs. That allowed Earth-like (today's Earth) conditions ON MARS.
This is such great news! I love astronomy, I believe wholly that in each human there is a signal to return back to where we humans belong--into SPACE!
kilzad u sound like some1 that gave up i feel sad for u...btw the world will not end in 2012 that just stupid 100% sure u where that guy that was thinking the world was going to end in 2000
i feel sad ....but one day this is going 2 happen 2 earth..there are so much phenomenone the takes place every milli ..sec..that one day we can very well get struck by a no of asteroids or planet ...any thing can happen..may be the earth will not end in 2012 ...but...it will someday...and its a fact...wake up...its sumthing not in our hand ...and not we can do any thing much about it......
millions if not billions and whatever trillions? of our money spent on what? a few pictures? shouldn't there be hundreds of thousands of pictures? just not available to the public...
we shud just send satelittes or whatever to other solar systems n check out their planets, it will take a while but it will be worth it when it finaly reaches there, then they can send back pictures, they we might not have to do the shit with mars
stuff like this freaks me out i wonder what happend to mars what could happen to earth what was mars like was there life more advanced then humans it just makes me think about all these things if mars had life what made it die could the same happen to earth i dont know but it sure is freaky
did u notice that there is no more water in mars aswell though Freaky ha?
and also a year in mars is 687 days and one day is 24 hours and 37 mins its crazy im sure that if there was life before sure it was more advance than Earth's
I kind of believe that mars was once like earth in a sense that it was "alive" meaning that it had a revolving iron core that is essential for a magnetic field. However, somehow and someway it stop revolving that the planet "died", now known as a dead planet. I don't there were trees or green life and such but close to rivers and some kind of micro bacterial life thriving on the surface of mars.
most likely the atmosphere was blown away, mars' magnetic field is only 1/100 of that of earth, too small to keep an atmosphere. without an atmosphere, the planet cools down, summer temperatures on mars are approx. -20 degrees celcius. so there's no liquid water anymore for life to thrive in.
"Protoplasm is the basis of all living matter, and 'the vital power of protoplasm seems to depend on the constant presence of water' (Lowsons' Text-book of Botany, Indian Edition. London 1922, p. 23). Text books of Zoology are also clear on the point. For example, see T.J. Parker and W.A. Haswell, Textbook of Zoology, London, 1910, Vol I. p. 15: 'Living protoplasm always contains a large amount of water.' " [2]
Textbooks from 90-100 years ago are not a good resource. At least read the wikipedia article on protoplasm completely before spouting an opinion. This idea comes from before people were aware that cells had organelles.
"Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe? (The Noble Quran, 21:30)"
"It is He Who has created man from water: then has He established relationships of lineage and marriage: for thy Lord has power (over all things). (The Noble Quran, 25:54)"
life does undergo and advances to different stages, imagine this.we are beasts that cannot co-exist with eachother, because of natural differences that made black people white people.why do we only have a 20000 years of history,i think its impossible for life to jsr disapear and not carry on to next stage, which unites all living creatures.death, , ,,,,,,
what's to say that if there are organisms on Mars, that they were not originally from Earth. That a piece of ice from Earth containing algea which could start an atmosphere via water via life.
the first humans on earth flew from mars 2 exscape a big war dat end up 2 nuke da planet. Human nature! We fucked up Mars n now we gonna turn Earth into Mars. Another dead planet! Weak minded earthlings! lmao....
i hope that lmao was your way of showing you where joking because you just took the story of scientology but changed it slightly, and i must say i dont think we will destroy earth i have a feeling we will all b dead and earth will still go on like it is today for many years
im afraid your wrong yet AGAIN, earth shows no sigh that we are destroying it. do u really think us humans are that important? seriously? the earth is simply going through a cycle that happens all the time, the earth itself shows us examples of polar changes, pre-human ice ages etc etc.
its just the first time us humans have experienced it so we big-headed creatures that we are say well its all our fault.
mabe we used to enhabbet mars?? we mabe did the exact same things on mars as we are doing to the earth mabe just mabe where seeing the future unravel in front of our eyes.
No, Just no. more likely we will end up with a more venus like environment. Mars looks like that because it lost it's magnetic field and solar winds riped the atimosphere away.
how do we knoww that we didnt use't to live on mars? we could of lived there yonks ago back wen it was like earth is today, then maybe something happened, say, instead of an iceage, the total opposite.. and only a few humans had escaped using a spaceship or whatnot, then crash landed here on earth OR purposly landed here. and with no technology and cadgets they had to go back to the basics, so they had to hunt to get foood, make ther own homes/shelters and yeah pretty much start from stratch.
That is something truly fantastic, but there's a little detail: gravity. It is bigger here than in Mars, and that poses a huge problem for any kind of "survivors" coming from Mars. Their bodies would have to undergo huge transformations and adaptation or evolution doesn't come in a couple of years. It takes time. Seems to me that any survivors would die for sure, from predation or whatever.
Here is something to think about. There are plenty of solar system in our galaxies. So, do the math; if every solar system has a planet or planets alive why not figure out how to get to other solar system and take over other live planets instead of messing around with mars. Now if all of the planets in our solar system were alive at one point what is the next planet that'll be born? Or will our solar system disintegrate? Or will earth stay alive for ever?
Because we can clearly see that humans evolved here on earth. Now, there's nothing that proves the earliest components of life didn't come from space, but it doesn't make much sense to say we showed up here, as humans.
a mars colony as living space still seems pretty pointless when theres plenty of harsh land on earth we could reclaim and try make fertile again. That said, as a mining colony i bet its full of metals, possibly gold!
well not necessarily because right now the land beneath the ice is pushed into the ocean, and when it will melt than the land might come up from the ocean. and float on the water. However, I don't think there will be many resources for us to live on.
You knw what the dumb thing is...you lot probably wnt even be alive when this all happens.....and where do u think u go when you die.....HUH.... we are here for a reason it jus makes sense that way....
they would die unless had shelter with right pressure protection ect, lol if they ate fat like an pig they deserve it, if it is deieasa, parents fault ect then they don't
...so Mars was once much warmer than it is now, and we know from earth history that it was once a giant snowball. Does our sun go through more extremes in power output than is generally believed?

we need to set up a space station; grow plants, plaants become trees, we need oxygen and it can only be produced through co2 and trees
jamesgambino 2 years ago
But where would you get the co2 from. You woul need alot more than one person to produce enough to keep the oxygen providing trees alive.
DayzHilton 2 years ago
seed mars' atmosphere with CO2 through some sort of machine. then bring in biospheres of trees to suck the CO2 out of the air and generate oxygen.
it would take a while but.. it would work :)

maybe they ran out of water like earth in some years is going to
philv1111 2 years ago
all water is frozen up in the polar caps.

didjabringadidjalong 2 years ago
that's a good point. and if water meant life, then that -20 degree celcius weather would possibly have frozen the life there.
butterknifesuicide 2 years ago
well, recently they have found some evidence that suggests water in liquid form exists on Mars, so I must correct myself here.
And who knows what kind of extremophiles could turn up there...
