Hey 'harpslide', was the Paradiso-gig the one when they shared the bill with Link Wray or was that one or two years later? I went to that double-header and still have fond memories of that T-Birds appearance, featuring the late great Keith F.... :-)
Link Wray I saw in 1979. There is a live album from that evening: Link Wray live at the Paradiso. He did two concerts in one evening to have the best recording result !times when he
saw the t-birds in santa rosa,CA.. sat front row jimmie busted a behind the head solo on "my babe"...then after the song had to fix his hair...whipped out a comb and with one slick stroke every hair was back in place...one of the best moments i've ever had at a live show
the best and my personal favourite version of this tune. love this era of the T-birds - when noone knew em and stevie was 3 years away from being famous - jimmie V rules..
Hello LEEFORD...I tracked down the first two T-Birds CDs through Amazon on Benchmark recordings, pretty costly, but worth every penny as they are some of the best blues recordings by white folk made in the past 20 years....they certainly rejuvinated the blues scene for everyone I think. Very sad about Keith, there is some stuff about him on the internet if you persist.
@LEEFORDJAGG - of Keith? I think the 'Rockpalast' DVD this is from, and a couple of Austin City Limits appearances that may not be available on DVD may be all there is.
Actually, JV DID invent what he's playing using the capo, and it's totally fucking original, funny how this pisses you off michaeldv321, why? Sure Collins and Lil Son Jackson are influences and I've seen Jimmie talk about Johnny Guitar Watson as an influence at Antone's (Watson and BB King), so? In short, JV is the absolute shit, live with it.
nah, i'm just a big fan, seen him dozens of times over the years since 78 or so, don't know him at all. i have the DVD this is from and may post them all so maybe others can get a sense of what the T-Birds were like in their prime, especially Keith Ferguson the bass player who is relatively unknown. thanks, tho, for your comment, Lil Son Jackson is someone I'd like to listen to some more.
i agree, them and early Fleetwood Mack. but nothings happened to Jimmie, he's just matured and moved on as an artist, tho this period of the T-Birds is my favorite guitar playing ever. if you go see Jimmie, he does part of the set with the capo and fingers style he's invented, and part old-style with a pick, like this. does a long version of 'Scratch My Back' on the guitar that is crazy funky, trippy and brilliant. but this band in this era is my favorite of all time.
Thank GOD cameras rolled for this.......

@harpslide
Ok, then I was right with assuming the gig I saw was in either 1981 or even 1982... :-)
T-Birds were great that evening, all the old stuff played at maximum drive and volume in the best lin-up imho.. :-)

@DjElSemtex ;
I was at that gig as well. Great T Bird show. Link Wray howover had his amp cranked up to 111..... had to leave after a while.
Have seen LW quite a few times since. Always a blast. Last show was Green Bay, WI. A few months later he passed away.

More please! Good to see the late great Keith Ferguson with the Birds. What a fantastic band they were at this time....bringing the music of
Juke Boy Bonner, Guitar Junior and Lazy Lester back from obscurity. Using a capo is an old trick...Jimmy carrys on where Johnny Guitar left off.
clean3 2 years ago
@clean3 That's exactly right, imo, clean3- Jimmie picks up where Johnny Guitar Watson left off.

Didn't realised Keith Ferguson passed away!What a character that guy was! Their first two albums are my faves.

Think this must have been around the time I first ever saw the T Birds = The Marquee Club, Wardour St, London.
Even though Kim looked a bit like a pimp in those days, that was it for me -fancied him ever since!x
Feel privileged to have met him on a few occasions since - what a sweetie :D
Saw the new line up in London, June '09. They were givin' it!!!!!
