  • The tourist center at Fredericksburg includes a slide show presentation, including one photograph taken after the battle that shows an actual solid wall of bodies, five corpses high at least, that one would have to climb over to advance past -- I couldn't believe it, was completely aghast - maybe the bodies were piled after the battle was over, but the accounts of the time spoke of the bodies in the way - terrible! & a carnival ground was laid over the graves, so the rebs could dance on them -

    I read that when looking out over the battlefield at Fredricksburg all you could see was a vast carpet of Union blue. The photo you mentioned was probably pretty accurate. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

    If that's true then yes it is a shame. Unfortunately, it seems to be happening to all of our hollowed battlefield grounds. Yet, those strip mall developers allow dollar signs to blind them of feeling the shame that is thiers. John
