  • bookmarked..

  • Wow, really good, I like it.....

    greets from Germany sends Theo

  • great amp!

  • some guys got it twisted saying this cant do metal, i think it is the rectifiers that cant do metal! u newer generation cant define what metal is until u watch this dude!!!

  • @neepathius i think this is fine for metal but the rectifiers give it more low end and mid range which is what modern metal players want but hey i love rectos and hair metal so i like em both

  • Dude you fuckin rip. great tone my friend.

  • i love your videos and tone you are very talented

  • yeah dude this tone is fucking siq

  • I Have a Stiletto Trident on its way and if the tone is anywhere near what you have going on,then i am done searching for the perfect head!! Thanks for your demo, the playing and tone were GREAT!!!

  • i rarely comment videos but i've got to hand it to you, that tone is insanely good

  • That Tone is downright 80s slutty. I love it.

  • killer tone!! some people say that its hard to get a decent bottom end out of this amp but i think after hearing this i think otherwise. what kind of bottom end do you get out of it?

  • I revisited this video for what seems like YEARS. I still think this is one of the best guitar tones on YouTube....f*cking love it!

  • amazing tone!.. and i think it is more in your hand than in your gear..

did you made those excellent vibratos without the tremolo?

  • GREAT PLAYING.

  • Killer tone, Great chops dude.....

  • the sound here is:

    50% Stiletto

    50% Hands

    great demo ad great amp.

But thats why ima be selling gear on eBay! :D

  • Great tone and chops dude

  • Hot Dang Dude! You got some killer chops man! Great playing!

  • what r ur eq settings

  • Would you choose?? Splawn or Stilleto for hard rock 80´s tone?

  • What effects r u using?

  • I am running a TC G-Major and a Keeley Modded Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive

  • @DSTaylor69 can this pull of 90s music i like lots of bottom end

  • @DSTaylor69 What speakers are you using? I have a Stiletto II through a 2x12 v30 Bogner cabinet and do't get a tone like yours. Thanks! Nice sound by the way!

  • Really nice playing mate!

Sorry if you covered this already but it this just straight into the amp or do you have effects added? I havent tried a Stiletto yet so dont know if they include the reverb and delay etc. I think im hearing.

  • Really nice playing mate!

Sorry if you covered this already but it this just straight into the amp or do you have effects added? I havent tried a Stiletto yet so dont know if they include some reverb or delay etc.

  • Yo...fat guys can play too - awesome!

  • Listen...i'm gonna say what no one has said...You are a great guitar player, dude!

  • stock tubes, or any boost?

how much do you have to dial in the gain to get that sound?

  • @8jeckyll8

this amp doesnt have too much gain.

when the gain is cranked its like the vintage mode on the dualrectifier!!

  • Comment removed

  • What was that scale at :50sec to :54sec?

  • Do any of the Mesa Boogie 100,120, and so on have the ability to switch from full watts to half or something?

  • Comment removed

  • The first part of it is Van Halen's Feel Your Love Tonight... The rest of it I made up as I went.

  • oh sweet man ! wow Great improvisation !! thanks for the reply !

    regards

  • so im looking at matching this up with my dual recto head ,would it fit in well ,i hear stilettos are absolutley rock amps but bad choice for metal.Ihear stage 2 s have more gain on tap would they work well together?

  • WOOOOOOW MAN!!!!!!!!! Fuckin' great!!!!! Awesome old school hard rockin' chops and great tone too I want a Stiletto too!!!!!!!!!

  • Do u remember your settings? And I assume u had the amp boosted with an OD too right?

  • Which are better quality and reliablity, Esp Standards or Ibanez S Presitge? If you had a choice between Very very high output bridge and moderate paf style neck and emgs. Which would be the better?

  • Dunno about Ibanez but i guarantee you ESP quality is absolute top notch.

  • Sounds good

  • So besides Blackstar, Blackheart, Vox. What other high end British guitar amp companies are there?

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980 yeah there's this one brand you've probably never heard of...they're called MARSHALL.

Also, blackheart isn't really high end at all.

  • Blackheart a high end company? Haha.

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980

    Marshall? Orange? there are plenty

  • Orange, Cornford, Blackstar, Matamp, there is also a company that hotrods Fenders and Marshall etc :-) I'm from england so i hope this helps buddy :-)

  • @nikkismash Thank you and it did. Why do you think most of the best amps come from England?

  • because they are all hand made, my friend is endorsed by Cornford amps and he went down to the factory to try them out the whole work force is less that 10 people ad its a mega rich company they are built to perfection every time made with love and care ya know? Cornford amps are wat Richie Kotzen uses :-) he has his own signiture amp with them i think. the 'Fab' in the uk at the moment is using vintage amps with analog pedals for high gain a lot of commercial bands are doing tat whole thing lol

  • but the funny thing about that is they are all sounding really dated like from that horrible fizzzy rack mount digital sound from the 80s what ever happend to just getting a low wat amp and cranking it up!

  • @nikkismash So out of the following amps which would be the better for hard rock/metal; Randall MTS RM100, Mesa/Boogie Stilleto Deuce, Krank Rev+, Marshall DSL, Engl Powerball 100.

  • Mesa everytime :-) its more natraull sounding :-) i use dual rec and a fender pro-sonic head a/b/y dirt & clean Mesa dirty Fender clean :-) Four x12 cabs :-). wat you think :-)

  • i know ten people have replied to you on this, but blackheart is a devision of crate. Also marshall and orange

  • man this guys rockin!

  • Thinking about the Trident, although I can get a Deuce anywhere... I have owned all mesa recto series, but they can't get the highs this thing can; otherwise I would get a roadster again...

  • Very nice. I've always been a huge fan of the Rects but when the Stiletto came out I had to try it. Very slick playing my friend. Keep up the good work!!!!

  • WHat is that first Van Halen tune he was playing? I am drawing a blank! How much of this is the Sparkle Drive?

  • Feel Your Love Tonight off the first album, sir.

  • Amazing, amazing tone. Just a touch too much gain for my liking, but to each his own, ofcourse. Nice playing too,

Quick question: did you add chorus on top of the amp distortion? is it just the youtube video compression? Is that chorusy sound a natural part of the amp?

  • I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure he's running chorus thru the loop, mostly like thru a G Major. He did mention G Major in his tags...

  • This or a Soldano Avenger? I'm looking for a good hard rock amp with articulate distortion, clarity, and tight response. Also not that woofy distortion that buzzes and makes additional noise, instead like crunchy distortion with tight low end

  • Great playing, he looks a bit like kerry king ha

  • @aftertheburn LOL!! True, true, but Kerry King couldn't play like that if he sold his soul... again!

  • really great tone mate and great playing.

  • Since there's a discussion about power, wattage, and volume below me, i'd like to point out that the Stiletto amplifier has a selectable 100W to 50W setting to get those amazing distortions.

  • Now that is some 80's riffin!!!! Lovin the tone and hearing that opening Eddie riff...I can't wait...that was cool.

    Nice chops and sound bro.

  • fucking insane tone. i like how you dont even flinch when doing crazy leads

  • I like it, I think I'll get one some day. Can you get death metal out of a Stiletto or should I get a Mark IV for that?

  • Ask the guys in Cannibal Corpse. I saw them a few month ago live, one had a Rectifier, the other a Stiletto. And (for me surprisingly) I liked the Stiletto a lot better. It was a lot more "juicy", and more articulate. So I would say yes, the Stiletto is awesome for extreme stuff too.

  • Bad Ass dude... BAD ASS, I love what i'm hearin!!

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Which do you think would be better to get john sykes whitesnake 87 tone, this or the splawn?

  • This. IMHO

  • The Splawn.

  • Hahaa.

That is what I call TONE!

Isn't that nice to play with MESA??

Just add little chorus, delay, reverb, tube screamer and you'll get Kick Ass sound from 80's to year 2000.

    Nice. Really nice =)

  • amaazing

  • Nice chops! Great hand tone! I wonder if you could please tell me which preset on the g major you are using. Thank you

  • Wow lucky dude, you got my dream set-up xD

  • Look it's kerry king!...or not. :P

  • awesome

  • I just played a Stiletto for the first time today and I think I fell in love. Now I'm thinking of selling my Marshall JCM 800 and buying one.

Should I do it? Which one gets more gain? Thanks, and please don't tell me Mesa if you're biased I just wanna know the differences between the two amps.

  • OK you obously dont have a Marshall JCM 800 if your asking which has more gain

  • I would say the Stiletto can get more gainy if you wanted to. Not sure what else you want to know, but yeah, that's pretty much it...

  • @mattstank Lmfao. The Mesa gets WAAAAAY more gain. I personally have a JCM 800 and love it to death. In fact, I don't like the Stiletto Deuce. Maybe you have to turn the volume up, but it sounded VERY thin.

To those that say '800s are thin, you have to get the volume up PAST 0 to get it to sound right. It's a 50 (or 100) watt thing. It's not meant for bedroom levels.

  • @slysendice It's all about having the output knbo turned up on those Stilettos...

  • @KHGuitarFreak1988 EXACTLY!! These amps sound thin when they are turned down. This is NOT a bedroom amp. I just got one recently, even though it is a stage one it still sounds great. Just ungodly LOUD!

  • settings? it sounds great. i just got a stiletto deuce and im just looking around for some ideas on settings

  • WOW!! Great Tone!! Is that just the straight Stilletto Duece?? No other distortion or FX boxes?

Damn, you play very well, too! Great job.

  • what do you think is a better sounding amp a peavey 5150 or the mesa's

  • it has the same gain as the jvm right??can you play heavier metal with this??thx

  • thats a beautiful tone. Its like clean distortion

  • Is this your riff or some band's (from 1:19 to 1:45)?? Great playing on great amp !!!

  • what are your settings?

  • wow man... I think about selling my dual rec and getting one of these... what kind of cab you got?

  • Sounds GREAT!

  • now this is some good rock playing! rsrs

i saw your splawn video, and my impression is that the stiletto has a more open trebly sound( in a great way )...what do you think about the clean and crunch from your stiletto? I love the marshall sound and just need to know if the stiletto has the same "vintage feel" on the high gain settings, as a EL34 amp... i'm intended to buy a stiletto, your opinion would be very nice!

    cheers

  • That tone! Amazing! Good work!

  • g-major is a steal at that price, it sounds excellent for something digital, practical. But man your playing reminds me many great players and your tone!!! I don't like that much gain anymore but this is the best sounding setup I have heard on youtube.

  • 00:20 - 00:27 What song are you playing?

Have you ever played a Stiletto Trident? I am thinking about getting one of those I have played the Deuce but I wanted to know if there was any huge difference between the two other than the Trident having a internal cooling fan and six tubes instead of four?

  • The trident might not be a good idea for studio applications because of noise from the fan, but it would be more ideal and useful for live applications. That's just my opinion though.

  • Thank you that is important to consider, my question is. Is the internal fan really that loud? I think Mesa would be aware of that and make a pretty quiet cooling system for their amps?

  • I don't think you would have a problem if you used an sm57 or any other dynamic mic. It's just the condenser mics you might want to stay away from. I wouldn't use a condenser for amps myself because i really haven't found a tone i liked out of any of them and it kinda covers up the dynamics.

  • I use a Sennheiser e609 Guitar Cab Mic, would that one be good with that amp?

  • Yeah that shouldn't pick up hardly any background noise.

  • If your doing studio stuff the trident would likely be overkill, the deuce is the best middle point and even still has to be cranked really loud to get pure power tube distortion, the ace is probably best for studio, but it all comes down to how loud you want to play, remember the deuce and trident have 50 watt settings as well though. I have a lonestar and stiletto ace combo and I love them both to death. Hope this helps !

  • Just thought I'd ask,

What's wrong with over kill? My friend at Mesa will sell me the Trident for only $100.00 more than a Deuce.

  • Well I mean the trident is 150 watts tube, thats huge ! I mean dont get me wrong, if your touring and playing to big audiences, by all means get the trident.

But I think they were talking about studio, and for a studio thats way too much. My 100 watt lonestar runs at 50 watts most of the time and its loud and its a only 2x12 combo. I mean really loud. Like for each pound it weighs it has 2 decibels, its deafening cranked.

  • Now that I think about it, if you really need that much power, what I would do is get either of the heads you want, and then run a power amp out of the slave output on the head into into a seperate cab.

In all honesty though, if your going through a PA theres really almost no reason to need that much volume.

As always get what suits you best. These amps are all great and these are just my opinions, I hope you can take some of the advice and give it shot.

    Best of luck ~ Sean

  • Thanks for your help, I really like having the power available if I need it but only using the volume I need.

I also have a Marshall PowerBRAKE Attenuator so I could always run that in between the head and cab to "tame" the trident but then remove the PB live?

  • So what's the big difference between the Duece and the Trident? Is the Trident better for live shows? Do they sound the same? I think I want one now, I just don't know which one I should get. So you're saying the Trident can be played at a lower volume and still get these great tones?

  • Yeah the deuce and trident are pretty much the same in tonality, the difference is that the trident is 150 watts, so it takes more to get power tube break-up and will be louded when it does, so yes much better live amp.

Look at what you are really going to do with it, studio stuff or basements, get the ace, studio stuff and ocassional live shows, get the deuce, mostly loud rock n' roll shows, get the trident.

Hope this helps and as always good luck !

    ~ Sean

  • Hey, Sean! Thanks for the info! I really appreciate it. But one more question: In this video, you ARE playing the Stiletto Duece, correct..... but is it the Duece ONLY, or do you have some other distortion or effects hooked up to it... anything else to help the sound? Or is that the STRAIGHT Stiletto Duece that we're hearing?

  • Thats not me in this video haha, sorry about that, but I believe as others had asked that he is using the deuce II's overdrive only. Keep in mind that mesa's amps are all great, no matter what you go with they will all generally cover a large palette of tones on their own. However I've found using JJ's tubes in them are a big upgrade over the stock ones, so something to keep in mind. And yes I believe that is straight deuce II, the cabinent you use with it will make a big difference too.

    ~ Sean

  • The one thing I forgot to mention ... As with any tube amps, remember that tubes will only clip so much, almost all amps use 12ax7s' so you can only get so much preamp distortion and even lower point where it sounds decent. Almost any tube amp is going to require some kind of booster pedal in the front of the amp to get that over the top sound.

As most andy timmons fans have followed, they like the BB preamp which is a fantastic pedal as a boost in front of a mesa. I use the seymour duncan TT.

  • The seymour duncan Twin tube series is a really warm sounding pedal and its overdrives are absolutely beautiful, but what I do instead is set the pedal for a low gain (around 9 or 10") and then boost the volume wayyyy up and push the preamp and this trick will work on any amp (tube amp that is, not a solid state, dont even try it, it will sound like crap). This causes the tubes to clip out as much as possible and you get this great organic sound and tone and feel that will sustain for days.

  • I think sometimes we get caught up on the factor of how much power an amp has, and then forget that 150 watts tube is really close to 3 or 400 watts in output and thats loud !!! Now keep in mind as well each time you double wattage that you only go up by 3 decibels, but thats still quite a bit, about a little more than you might boost for a solo (depends on the music). Like I said earlier the cab and tubes you pair with this amp will make the most difference.

  • thing to get from all of this is that the amp that looks best on paper wont always be whats best for you, in fact sometimes you might find that that feature they try to push in fact turns out to be a barrier for you, say for example having only 150 or 50 watts and not 100.

As always, take what you can from what I've said and best of luck, experiment on your own and find what YOU like. Im only 17 and Im glad Im able to help. So as always best of luck and enjoy !!!

    ~ Sean

  • Ooops. Yeah, I noticed that you are Sean, and he's Shawn! My bad! Sorry. Ha ha. Anyway, thanks for the info. I've been trying out some different Boogies lately and I can't find this tone he has. I played a Duel Rec. one time with an amazing tone and feel.... but can't find it since. This Stiletto in the video sounds amazing. I heard most Boogie players will use a boost in front, like a Tube Screamer or something to make it sound so great, but I'm looking for a straight amp tone. Thnx.

  • Like I said, if your around 80 or 90 happy with an amps feel then its probably the amp for you and it just needs a bit of tweaking, you'd be amazed with what a good EQ'ing can do. Possibly tubes as well, but sit down in the loud room at guitar center or where ever you play them and give them a good crank, you cant judge an amp at low volumes because the tube section is hardly on at all.

As with any tube amp, they all really need a booster in front

  • You know... in this day and age, you'd thinkn all amps like this would come with some tiny, built in "Power Soak" device so that you could really crank it, but keep the volume down to get that BIG sound, even at low volumes. I wish I still had my Tom Sholz Power Soak! (I'm not sure how old you are, but he was the guitar player from the band, "BOSTON") His power soak device was great. I know they make new devices like this, but they're expensive.

  • Like I said, Im really only 17. Anyhow there actually are a few amps that have a power soak like function built in, which I cant I remember any of right at the moment.

Anyhow theres two real reasons that I know of why amp builders dont include them. First being that they can kill tone and they dont account for speaker distortion, eurotubes has an article on it I believe, if not someone like them.

The second reason is because of selectable wattage which has become steered in the wrong direction

  • by amp makers, leading most guitarist to believe that wattage equates to volume, which is entirely wrong, a 35 watt amp will be nearly as loud as 100 watt (with same speaker setup of course, add speakers and then it gets loud) however the difference is that the 35 watt will have huge distortion because it only has 35 watts of CLEAN headroom, but it may be pushing the full 100 watts of power. Wattage is headroom not volume !

Anyhow I hope this helps in someway and best of luck

    ~ Sean

  • I had no idea anyone built in those Power Soak sort of deviced in amps. I know there are a few companies that make a device to hook up that do that sort of thing.... probably well worth the money. If you're only 17, then you probably either know of the band BOSTON through your parents, who are probably my age (ha ha).... or through playing Guitar Hero. If you've not heard them, you should check them out. GREAT guitar playing!

  • Yeah I know of boston, but truthfully I never got into guitar hero or rockband. I'll see what I can find, but there are amps out there with them.

    ~ Sean

  • Many Mesas have a built in power soak/variac. The Bold/Spongy switch acts just like a built in variac, to reduce plate voltage and help the amp sag & distort at a lower volume.

  • Wow thats amazing. Never really liked the Mesa sound but it sounds fantastic in this video. Excellent distortion.

  • Allo, I´m from portugal and my English is not the best.

I would like to ask which guitar are you using in this video and which are the pickups.

  • Whick do you prefer your Mesa Stiletto or your Splawn? Why? Ray 5/5 PS: Your playing is freaking as Fabulous as yout tone and it is freaking killer !!!!!!

  • The Splawn by far... Bigger bottom.... The Mesa had a nasty hi-end... The Spalwn is very warm.

Everything from a Hot Rodded Plexi to over the top Marshall Rodded sounds... Thanks Ray, That's a big compliment coming from you...

  • Where can I get a Splawn?

  • Man you're rockin'. Really good tone.

  • Do you perfer the series I or II

  • Wow! Such an amazing piece of gear. And what a playing!

  • People think this amp isnt as good as a recto...this is mesa's amp to replace the rectos loose bottom and noisy gain. Stiletto are much better ...tone wise.

  • Rectifier Solo Heads to me sound like complete utter shit. They ruin the Mesa name for me. But luckily, the Stiletto amps save the name for me. They sound impeccable.

  • I guess that depends on what sounds you are going for, Recto's are a recto, great for that over the top heavy sound. I have both the stiletto and the recto and love them both for different reasons, as to the recto ruining mesa's name, what that is kind of stupid, just because it is not your sound, does not mean it is a bad amp, just not your tone.

  • That just really depends on the music you are playing and the tone you are searching for, both are completly different beasts, but both are great at what they do.

  • Damn man! You are a great player. feel, tone , vibe, you have it all. Sounds like your a veteran player from 80's metal bands?

  • damn thats the best tone ive ever heard out of a mesa, probably cos i love marshalls so much and ur tone sounds similar to an overdriven marshall

  • Mesa uses el34s in this amp, same as marshalls

  • nice playing!

  • Beautiful Sound...are you using any kind overdrive pedal?

  • VERY NICE TONE. I am currently working up a 2204 setup. Your effects sound great, very subtle. I just got my 2204S ltd edition out of the shop. Very nice, responds very well to volume control changes without getting wooly. I run the DI out into a Rocktron intellifex then that into a Marshall 2100 stereo tube power amp. Getting VERY close to what I am after. Good luck on your tonequest, sounds as if you are reaching tonal nirvana.

  • god i wish i was as good as you. but how much was the stilletto and should i get the deuce or trident? i have a triple rec but i hate it because it doesnt have tight enough gain as i want it. i have the peavey jsx and i love it to death.

what are the prices on the stiletto deuces and tridents?

    and which should i get?

  • man why dont you get a peavey 5150 or 6505 the 6505 has tight ass gain it sounds amazing and used you could likely get one for around 5-600 bucks

  • i like the 5150's but they have ALOT of noise. and the clean channel is not very good in my opinion.

But if i ever joined a heavey ass band Id get one. itd be my first choice.

  • Checked the site, it seems that the Trident has three rectifier valves, and the Deuce has two. My mistake...

  • haha yea. hence the name. DEUCE, TRI-Dent.

    TRIPLE rectifier, DUAL Rectifier.

but atleast you got the idea so whatever.

  • Woops, that previous comment was suppose to be a reply to dantes1815's post...

  • The deuce is 100W from 4 EL34s with one rectifier tube (I think), while the trident is 150W from 6 (holy shit!!!) EL34s and 2 rectifier tubes. The trident will have higher headroom and have to get louder to distort more, but it should have more bass. I prefer 50 watt amps because you can crank em up more without the cops crawling up your ass lol. But for when I have to be totally obnoxious I let my JMP 2203 loose :)

  • The Deuce and Trident, if I'm not mistaken, both have two rectifier valves. It's just that when you activate the 150W on the Trident, it automatically choose diode tracking, much like the Triple Rectifier...

  • @dantes1815

    This is not totaly true.

The Deuce has 2 rectifier tubes, and the Trident 3 (1 tube per 50 watts)

And the amp has a master volume, so if you connect something like a delay in the loop, you will be able to use the master and solo volume wich means a lot!

By cranking the master volume (like cranking the power amp) and keep de pre amp volume low(the channel master volume) it will make your sound a hell of a lot closer to full tube overdrive at lower volumes!

  • you live in a store??

  • No... This is where my band has practice.

  • HAHAHA this comment made me laugh so. nothing negative on either part. Just that he asked like.. wtf? you live in a store? haha

    funny shit.

  • It's a 400ms Delay and Pitch shift through the effects loop... TC G-Major

  • Ooohh that's quite a fancy pedal :)

  • BIEN GORDITO FELICITACIONES
