everybody just cool down. Let's enjoy the different types of racing and engines, Ferarri's and Chevy's, F1 or CanAm instead of acting like 10 year old boys. Listen to your uncle. lol.
@wapitiman100 yeah, they may LOOK like tractor engines, but they kicked the crap out of this spaghetti engine !! (then the giant twin turbo air pump Porsches kicked the crap out of everyone !)
@sardosfish how many Can-Am championships did Ferrari engines win ? none. All Can-Am championships were won with a Chevrolet V-8 design or a Porsche flat 12. The towers have nothing to do with this post. Stay on topic.. we're over it. That's what American's do, we move on. We didn't get taken over by the Germans in WWII did we ?? you did. At least we have a military that can kick ANYONES ass.
@Bigchuckers if we wanted to blow up everything and everyone in Iraq and `Ghani, we would. We don't want to kill a bunch of civvys though, do we ?? This is about cars.
maybe, but they still dominated Can-Am racing 1967-1971 (with McLaren winning 5 titles and 37 out of 43 races in total) until Porsche came along with their insane 917-10 and 917-30 Can-Am cars.
Mario Andretti managed to finish 2nd with the 712 in some race. It did better in the InterSeries in Europe.
All-aluminum, 60-degree vee angle, dual overhead camshafts per cylinder bank, 48-valves, independent throttle-bodies with port fuel-injection...the best V-12 Ferrari has ever made.
I saw 2 ferrarri's in the can-am at mid-ohio, would have to do research to get the year....mario andretti and pedro rodriguez drove them, they did not podium
dominated by big american engines Chevy and Ford.If memory helps me,Ferrari joyned Can Am with a modified P4 ,then they challenged with a 512,a 612 and at last with a 712.
None of them was a winner as far as I recall eventhough they had fairly good drivers at the wheel.
Your #9 spark plug has a slight misfire between 3800--5400 RPM.
That'll cost ya about .09 seconds per lap.
Better drop that thing off at Meineke's first thing Monday morning.

@wapitiman100
and yet they couldn't beat those "yank...tractor engine[s]"
Still, its gorgeous car and a wonderful sounding engine. Winning everything is for the pros, I would love to vintage race one of these.

They had the drivers, but not the resources to take on Can-Am. Ferrari was doing prototype and F1 at the time. Small company stretched too thin.

712 or 512???
francoispiraud 3 years ago
to francoispiraud - 712
a Can Am spotted project which didn't get
great results.

712=7000cc???
francoispiraud 3 years ago
to francoispiraud - yes,I can suppose it was.
Can Am was quite a successfull trophy by then,
dominated by big american engines Chevy and Ford.If memory helps me,Ferrari joyned Can Am with a modified P4 ,then they challenged with a 512,a 612 and at last with a 712.
None of them was a winner as far as I recall eventhough they had fairly good drivers at the wheel.
Ferrari cared about too many targets by then:
F1,sport proto,Can Am,GT and whatelse.....
Greetings.
