  • Just a thought, those of you attempting this may want to look into a "solder sucker" that can be picked up from any electronics parts store or a store like Fry's. It makes de-soldering a breeze.

  • Say, Is the PS2 controller's PCB compatible with the Tekken 5 arcade stick and is it possible to replace the latter's PCB with the controller's?

  • I've never soldered in my life, would you say its better to use a desoldering pump over the braid to avoid lifting up the contact?

  • Ive got a Tatsunoko vs Capcom Arcade n i opened it up. i noticed that the buttons were set for Playstation so is the any way i could mod it for the ps3 thru a USB port? any tips if so

  • I've only used my soldering iron for smoking bud lol

  • in yore video Modding a Wii Hori stick with Sanwa Parts for Xbox 360: Part 1 how meny wats are you using to sader and what with of sader are you using

  • If i wanna keep the same pcb, i just unsolder, take the buttons outs, put sanwa buttons and than just solder it back?

  • I have a hori fight stick 3, could I just unsolder the buttons and put sanwa buttons and just resolder it with the original pcb?

  • is the stick essentially the same as the

    Hori Fighting Stick 3???

  • yes

  • Awesome guide, thanks for posting.

  • I want to buy a hori ex2 or wat ever it's called for my xbox but it only has 6 buttons. Why did you say that u only need six. Surely u need 8 because of the bumper and trigger buttons. For throws?

  • You can use a button combination for throws/ex/taunt. By default throw is fierce punch + fierce kick, ex is mid punch + mid kick and taunt is weak punch + weak kick.

Everything is based on the 6 buttons. All "special" moves(ie throw, ultras, ect) are just a combination of those.

  • Hey, I'm thinking about replacing my hori buttons but I've read that Sanwa 30 somethings won't fit? Do you know of another button size/model that WILL fit without modifications to the holes in the face plateor w/e its called. and where I can order some? thx in advance, I've never done anything like this before but 1 of my stock hori buttons has died to like 80% effective and so I wanna change out all 6 with something of higher quality but te guides I've seen make it seem hard to do.

  • You have to modify them. No Sanwa buttons that I know of will fit without modification.

  • Yeah thanks for the quick response...as I watchd further I found that out myself. Welp, time for a TE stick =P but atleast now I know I can frankenstein my hori someday if I want..great tutorial.

  • why not just buy a TE?

but i understand money is hard to come buy these days so i guess you have to spend time instead of money

  • @COOLERU cuz the te is not for wii

  • i know lol

  • Question, why do so many people that do mods get pink buttons?

  • Because they want that color?

  • do u know if there is any way to hook up a PS3 figght stick to the WII , i want to use my ps3 stick for the upcoming wii game tatsunoko vs capcom???

  • Take it apart and put a Wii PCB in it. Similar to what I do with this one.

Good Wii PCBs are hard to come by though.

  • The Death Smiles Arcade Stick is a Pro EX SE with different graphics as far as I can tell.

  • I have read in Internet:

The Seath Smile Stick have a Stick from the producer: SAVANA but the buttons are normal Buttons from Hori. The Pro EX SE looks like the Death Smiles Stick but the the Stick and all the buttons are from the prodicer "Seimitsu"

But thanks for your anserd!! Greetings!

  • there are wii fighting games?!

  • tatsunoko vs capcom

  • It seems like all the work for common ground is already done for you if you aren't going to cherry mod.

PS: yeah 500 character limit sucks

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • No. The hori PCB is non common. The JLF wire harness is for common ground PCBs. You do not need to cherry mod for non common ground. Watch my JLF common ground video, not the cherry mod video.

The stick I put in this one is non common but it still uses the omron switches, not cherry.

  • I see in your comment below you say "For the JLF you would have to get it ready for common ground(see my other vids)" I watched the cherry mod part 2 video where you show how to get the JLF ready for common ground. I was wondering if I am not going to cherry mod the JLF, can I just use the stock pcb that the microswitches are soldered to and plug the wire harness in and solder the other ends of those wires to the wii pcb?

  • First of all i would like to thank you for the tutorial. I am modding my wii hori for Tatsunoku vs. Capcom (keeping the wii pcb). I had a question for you though.

  • this is cool and all but useless to me... do you know how to replace the parts with sanwa parts and still let it be a WII stick? if so can you let me in on that? i'm a modder but i've never seen a stick with a PCB like that.

  • Just put the Wii PCB back in instead of a 360 one. Buttons would need to be hard wired or the contacts bent to fit. For the JLF you would have to get it ready for common ground(see my other vids) and just reconnect the wires you took off the hori stick.

Modding with Sanwa doesn't have anything to due with modding for 360, they are basically two different mods, I just did them both. You can have either without the other.

  • thank you my brother. but that's too much work . i'll just stick to using gamecube PCB's and making my own box. i jut own a hori wii fighting stick and thought a MOD was needed. but thanks

  • knew I should of picked 1 or 2 up when they were 30 bucks.

  • do u have to buy the joystick online or can u buy them at a store

  • The joystick as in JLF or the entire arcade stick al la Wii Hori?

  • just the joystick

  • Probably have to get it online somewhere. It's not something stores like wal-mart or gamestop would sell but if you have an arcade parts retailer near you they might have something.

  • thanks

  • Would this be similar to modding a PS3 HFS3?

  • Pretty much exactly the same.

  • Do you mod sticks for people and sell them? I want to mod my Hori EX2 but don't have the parts.

  • nice camera

  • Stupid question but can you still use part of the braid that has already been soldered or do you have to use a clean part of the wire?

  • You should be using a clean part.

  • The Wii fighting stick looks just like the fighting stick 3 (ps3).

  • It's exactly the same, so is the EX2(xbox 360 stick), except the EX2 has a different button layout(6 rather then 8).

Modding all 3 with Sanwa is exactly the same as this one.

  • What stores were selling them for 20 bucks?

  • You'd have to look around for sales I guess. I live in Canada and the prices are a little higher here but people have said they have seen them at places like EB on sale for $20.

  • Cool tutorial !

But you use Sanwa 24mn or 30mn, and with screw or clips ? Do you think it's hard to do ?

  • 30mm snap ins. Screw ins probably wouldn't fit and 24mm would just fall through.

  • i c these every where at gamestops

  • Just curious, what kind of soldering iron are you using?

  • Just a cheap dual 15/30 watt iron I got a The Source(Radioshake). I use it in 30 watt mode to desolder and 15watt to solder.

  • hey because this fighting stick is cheap is there any way to mod it for it to work with my ps2 so i can play street fighter with it?

  • Yeah man. Just put a PS2 controller PCB in there instead of a 360 one. I start wiring it in part 4.

  • ohh man thanks dude i reall appreciate it im gunna watch all the vids becuz i never done this before and i never had a fight stick before either so im clueless so im just gunna watch all your vids =D i may have a question once i get that same fight stick your using

  • well i got 1 question. You know the cord that runs from the ps2 controller into the ps2? how would i put that on the fightstick?

  • You have to take the controller apart and wire the PCB inside to the buttons and joystick. I show you a 360 PCB in this part and actually get into the wiring in part 4.

  • oh ok i just got done watching part 2 i watch part 3 and part 4 cuz i need to know this stuff lol i really appreciate it becuz when i go on ebay they want hundred's of dollars for them so this is a big releif

  • Why are you switching out the the Hori parts?

I thought they were high quality seimitsu buttons and stick.

  • No, they are crappy hori parts.

The cheap FS, EX and Wii Hori all use hori parts. The versions that come with seimitsu are way more expensive.

  • way too much effort for your average joe, looking for a decent fighting controller...

  • Can you even get a good quality joystick(let alone buttons) for less than $30? Just makes you wonder how long it will last

  • Could a dual pcb be possible with the wii pcb and an xbox 360 (old version) pcb?? i have read and cant found a clear answer some say yes some say no.. because of the common ground and non common ground.. i was under the impression that both were not common ground and it was possible.

    What do you think?

    THANKS

on my last question.. i thought slagcoin was your site.. sorry about that..

  • If you want to do dual PCB mod your going to want to have 2 common ground PCBs. It's apparently doable with non-common but it's a lot of work(or so I hear). I've never actually did a non-common dual mod before.

  • I don't understand why you say you don't need the 8-button lay out I have a modded SE Stick and a modded Alpha 3 stick. Both with 8-button lay out with SF4 and you having to press all 3 Punches & Kicks Buttons it works fine for me. 323 win's (XBOX Live) online aganist More skilled Player's Top 9,000 over all and can't for get I do well at EVO every year why would you plug the last 2 buttons Just set them as 3 punches RB 3 kicks LB.

  • Because I don't need them? I never said they weren't useful. Main reason I didn't do it was because I couldn't find the right resistors locally to set the pad up.

No one said anything about 8 being bad, don't get so bent out of shape.

  • That desoldering job was pretty poor. For one, you didn't tin the end of your iron, this must be done to maximize heat transfer to the wick. Two, you should have poured some flux on the wick to remove oxidation and promote strong adhesion to the wick. Not doing these things will cause the iron to remain much longer than necessary in order to melt the solder. This can, and *did* result in melting the PCB and damaging the board. Fortunately, yours still seems to be functional.

  • My iron was already tined. What you see as "burning" is actually just residue left from the flux. It is easily removed with a bit of rubbing alcohol or even just by scraping it away.

Under this residue the board is completely healthy. I can send you a picture or video of it after a bit of cleaning is you want.

  • what do you mean by setting the triggers to neutral??

if i want to keep the triggers what do i do?

  • I don't think I said anything about setting the triggers to neutral. What do you mean by keep them? Do you want to use them as buttons? Or just leave them on the board? If you don't want them to be buttons you can just leave them. If you want to use them you have to remove the triggers and install 10k 1/4 watt resistors to your board. I'd check out slagcoin and shoryuken if I where you.

  • I have an EX2 for 360 and I was wondering if I can install a Happ joystick into it. Also, is soldering required to switch out the hori buttons for sanwas in the EX2?

  • The EX2 is exactly the same as this one, only difference is that it comes with a 360 PCB rather then a Wii PCB. So to take it off you still need to de-solder it; just like this one.

Happ joysticks are huge, much bigger then the JLF. And if you watch the latter videos you will see it's hard to fit even the JLF in there. So no, Happ parts(buttons and joysticks) will not fit.

  • could u mod the wii hori for ps3?

  • actually ignore this question cuz i dont want 2 ruin somthing.

  • Sure. Just watch through to the end and instead of putting the 360 controller pad in it put a PS3 one.

  • Would I be able to install a Happ joystick to this?

  • No way. Watch the latter parts and you will see I can barely fit the JLF in it. Happ joysticks are way bigger then the JLF so no.

  • I want to make a dual PCB keeping the wii and adding an xbox 360 one.. what would i do with the voltages?? do you know the voltage for the wii?

  • So does that work with both the Wii and 360?

If it does, could you make a Wii and PS3 one?

  • This works only on 360 right now. There isn't a whole lot of room in the stick so it would be hard to fit both the Wii and 360 PCB in it.

  • Thanks guys, I'll be rendering part 2 tonight and upload it some time tomorrow.
