@siomi869 ... there's ebay for the uninitiated... um yeah... and those strange things people call garage sales where they stare at you while you sift through their old stuff... that goodwill/value village/Saint de Paul's/etc thrift store place that you drive past every day on your way to work... and that Pawn shop in the run down part of town. ...yeah.... oh yeah... and that craigslist thing... though you do want to be careful not to go alone on those. Since I bought my HP-319,the cassette volume is way lower than the radio and the turntable,I've had the head cleaned and everything checked up,but it still not working the way I want,Even in the maximun volume, the sound of the tape is low.
It seems to have low amplification for the cassette deck, what can I do?
@AugustoAAL Did you try cleaning the little metal switch plates that touch when a cassette is put in play, with WD-40? If that's not the problem, then maybe leaky capacitors or a trimmer setting or the output level?
i never did like stereos with a "slider" for volume i prefer a knob. i have a sanyo 2033, other than the worn out capacitor, it is awesome its from 1979 if i were you man i would invest in one of these things I have a problem with mine but the prob is common with all old audio equiptment... nice. i am serious though, i should soon have some vids about it... soft capacitor in the power supply
FYI just incase you weren't aware, you can purchase new surrounds at certain electronics stores and they're pretty easy to install. I rescued a pair of really awesome huge house speakers that someone tossed because the surrounds were toast. Just went down to Main Electronics on Main st in Vancouver. I'm sure you can find something in your neck of the woods. Just make sure you measure accurately. Not all speakers follow that standard measure like 6, 8, 10, 12 etc inches.
hey guys i have a 1998 Panasonic stereo system has a 50 cd holder and two mic jac karake, 3d space sound and super woofer speaker sub, the model is a SA-AK9, what does something like that go for
I have this exact Record Player, been in the family since it was new (built around 1980).
One thing I was curious about is if anyone knows how to slow the record playback down a little as it seems like it's playing slightly too fast as the tempo is and pitch is faster/higher than norm (compared to the same music on CD/MP3). Would cleaning it help?
If it has a drop down automatic deck like the one pictured in the video there is no way to slow it down - these old decks (actually made by bsr in birmingham) were deliberately fast to make em sound more exciting!
Seriously? That's stupid, lol. And yeah, mines an HP-319 with a BSR table just like this one.
I got it sounding more normal though, under the platter I found a screw by the Idler wheel that, when turned counterclockwise, slows down the speed (but turn too much and playback starts to warble). After the screw and a cleanup she sounds only a hair faster than normal, but an acceptable level.
At least she works, which is important because it's a 29yr old keepsake from my late grandmothers house.
That cassette deck is by Sears, no Dolby, and not that good a deck. Also its VU meters are MESSED up so they're stuck in one position so I don't know what the level is...
I have one of these stereos, they are really cool, I would like to repair it, for some reason when I play a cassette or I turn on the radio, it has like a scratching sound very annoying.
Nice system... I already have a old Marantz 2238B... Really good quality... better than sony! But I decided to sell it because I need more power.. So.. I sold for only 50$ hehe.. and after I bought a Sony STR-AV970 (Dolby, Prologic surround 5.1, etc..) for only 100$.. Anyway... your system is nice!
hey i restored one too, was a full restoration turner tape deck amplifier record player power amplifier , the quality of sound is very good,in the tape deck and phono preamp uses IC but the rest are transistors, i liked to rostored this set...
Yeah, that's pretty awesome! The unit was made in 1975. I have the SONY HP-318 it is identical except it has an 8-track recorder instead of the cassette. My parents bought it originally because they bought a new car with an 8-track player and they wanted to record their albums. It came with a pair of SONY SS-310 bookshelf speakers. My father said he paid $360 for it new.
Excellent find! I used to go to garage sales and flea markets and find stuff like that all the time when I was younger (10 to 15 years ago.) Unfortunately nowadays I have neither the time nor the storage space to put anything. But I still have a few treasures, like my 1977 Panasonic portable TV and my 1955 Zenith Transoceanic Shortwave radio!
You should put rare decade(s) old audio hardware on eBay so you can get the money to buy an iPod touch. Because I am going to get an iPod touch when I get the money!
WOW, did I just head "Get Ready for This" on the radio? That's preposterous in today's world. Because nowadays, it is only a teaser if radio plays kickass eurodance songs which it otherwise no longer plays, that's why I use MP3 players nowadays.
Also, at 04:06 that "Conga" song by Gloria Estefan (recorded off the radio) is also a teaser as there is a higher chance of finding vintage stereos similar to that than there is hearing any dance track on the radio anymore!
You can't change the cartridge on that unit. You can only change the stylus which is that little red thing that the needle is housed in. You just need to get a new stylus.
That is a really nice find! Sounds great, and it looks like it was very well cared for. Way to go! I really enjoy all of your videos. Lots of great vintage info, and you do good repair work, too. Keep it up!
What a sweet piece of hardware. Sounds great as well. Could you give some details on those HH Scott speakers as well (sorry if you mentioned it before in another video, haven't gone through everthing yet)
Combo stereos kick ass! But I want future combo stereos to have the radio tuner omitted because I think they should "kill ugly radio" (as Frank Zappa said) in favor of MP3 players and iPods!
But the music played on the FM stations in this video are only a teaser since most of the music on the radio is just utterly lame, that's why Frank Zappa said "kill ugly radio"!
Those Sony Mics are very good - I had a unit that came with one in the 70's. Transport on the cassette deck is superb and lotsa fun! From your description it seems that the cartridge is probably fine (Mag cartridges rarely fail) so I'm thinking it's a connection problem at the back of the cartridge too. Just change cartridges. Funny how it's a Sony made in Japan but the later models like this used British BSR decks - eh?! Great Vid Ricky!
Very cool tape transport entry, awesome quality. The system sounds very clean and accurate, wonderful find. I think those separate microphones are like the ones I had with the SONY TC-200 hybrid tape recorder. Both types of microphones are good rugged SONY quality.
That's a nice stereo system. it looks very high quality. I like how the numbers light up and everything, that's awesome. I like the cassette deck on it too, it's like a car stereo. It saves a lot of space too. Also, when you played back your voice recording, it sounded live. You could probabally record a live band with that thing, IN STEREO, and it would almost sound professional.
If only this kid named Jacob Smith at my school believed me when I say a vintage stereo is high-quality... He thinks they're TERRIBLE!!...But he hasn't listened to one before!!! I already amazed a teacher when he heard the quality of my Sony TC-580 reel-to-reel!
ya, the older stereo units usually have a better sound to them; they produce that full, rich sound that analogue gives you. if you ask me, any Cassette, LP or 8 track can sound a lot better than a CD, as long as you have a good stereo system.
yes, not too many people appeciate that kind of stuff like us. i mention to one of my employees that i want a stereo console with a built-in tv and she said that the picture is not clear on those. i said to her maybe it needs some adjustments.
Common misconception. It's like people today forgot how music is supposed to sound and just are happy with the quality standards of today. Don't get me wrong you can still get good and even better stuff than vintage today, but you'll have to shell out a LOT more money. Building a similar sounding system than the gear I use today, would cost me several thousands of euro/dollar. And it wouldn't look half as good :)
Coo. Nice stereo system. It comes with a cassette deck, but it looked really weird. You put in a cassette in the slot and slide it down after pressing play, just like a car radio with a cassette player. Never seen this one before. It was from the 1970's. It has a record changer too, just like the Magnavox one that damusician posted recently.
that stereo is hot! i love the miami sound machine and aretha frankin song. now the issue with turntable check for loose audio connect within turntable unit.
I would notice a 60 Hz hum in the right channel (the one that has WEAK audio on turntable) when I put my finger near where the wire connects to the cartridge, showing the wire there is good. Could it be the wire plug connection on the cartridge is bad, or is the cartidge coil bad (I belive it uses a magnetic cart as it uses a preamp.
ok, try checking the rca jacks under the changer. i noticed you mentioned that it may have a bad cart and you can't find any screw to remove the. well, it can be in these 2 location on each side of the cartridge or under the silver strip on the headshell.

Good Day!
Those old 1970's stereos were made tough!
They put more work into the tuners than todays.
They'll run a long time!
Just keep a sharp stylus in!, Eh!
It bites that the belt makers are nearly all out of business!! ppl all went digital,..so analog is gonna vanish!
I have a few oldies like that myself. Love em!
