@YourWorstNightmareDK Von Menschen einfach töten halte ich nichts. Das hinter den Linien SS-Einheiten, SD auch Einheimische Säuberungsaktionen vornahmen sind Tatsachen. Polen bekämpften selber ihre Kommunisten und waren auch Antisemitisch und fast alle von ihnen waren nun mal Kommunisten und der war eine Bedrohung für alle europäischen Völker.
In den USA wurden Kommis auch aufs schärfste verflogt, also auch kein rein deutsches Phänomen.
Motorsegler Osia Paraskevi, mit griechischer Besatzung und 4 deutschen Soldaten auf dem Weg von Lemnos nach Kavalla, wird von dem britischen U-Boot Rorqual gestopt. Während die griechische Besatzung den Segler verlassen darf, werden die Deutschen mit Waffengewalt gezwungen, an Bord zu bleiben und werden unter Deck gezwungen. Anschließend wird der Segler zusammengeschoßen. Die deutschen Soldaten werden bei ihrer Flucht mit MGs beschossen und getötet.
@YourWorstNightmareDK Ich kenne bisher alle Dokumentationen die auf dem TV liefen und auch viele die bewusst nicht gezeigt werden. Ja genau die Deutschen waren und sind eiskalte Bestien gelle ;-).
Auch von U-Bootkrieg hast du keine Ahnung, denn anfangs ließen sie die Leute in Boote steigen vor der Versenkung oder nahmen selber welche auf teilweise auch durch getarnte Hilfsschiffe, dies war später leider nicht mehr möglich und teilweise waren die Schiffe auch mit Kanonen bewaffnet.

und mit Schulgeschichtswissen kommt man nicht weit. Ja der Mann war so aggressiv und verrückt, dass er pausenlos Friedensangebote machte und verhandeln wollte, sogar Anbot alle Länder zu räumen und Reparationen zu zahlen und dies auch schon wo alles nach Sieg aussah.

@YourWorstNightmareDK Sudetenland war eindeutig von Deutschen bewohnt schon seit 1000enden von Jahren lebten ihre Ahnen dort. Tschechen hielten sich nicht an Minderheitenschutzgesetz und Slowaken wollten auch nicht unter der Herrschaft der Tschechen sein also völlig legitim.

Was gingen die polnischen deutschen Probleme an, sie haben es durch Versaill und ihre permanente Unterstürtzung mit Waffen seit 1919 auf Überfalle auf Deutsche,Ukrainer, Kaschuben usw. ermuntert und keinen Einhalt geboten. Dazu kamen permanente Grenzverletzungen und Kriegsdrohunng.

Der Luftkrieg Lindemanns und Churchill war als Ausrottungskrieg gegen die Zivilbevölkerung konzipiert und dies kann man selbst bei dem Massenmörder Churchill nachlesen. It was was very popular among German's during the WWII, sa well as "Katusha" for Russian's.
But I can't help but cry and wonder what my late father would feel about this German song when he was fighting Nazi from July 1941 till May 1945. He was wounded 4 times, was in the hospitals, then back to the field. Meanwhile, all his family of 5 in Russia was murdered in 1943.
my grandfathers survived both ww2, they both died 10 years ago.they fought in russia, ukraine and balkans. One was gunner on a german armored train patroling the balkans . one was hurt in a battle for a ukrain city called charkow, my grandfathers brother was killed in charkow, the 3rd battle of charkow, march 1943 against red army. I orderd their military documents, its interesting.

Oct 1961, I was stationed with the 3rd Inf Div in Wuerzburg Germany. On a particular day myself and 2 GI buddies visited a Gasthaus in center of town, small place, very friendly people at the bar. Someone played Lily Marlene by Dietrich and the whole place started to sing it and look at us. It was such a great instantaneous moment, one Ill never forget. She did the best version I think.

I was in the Marines and patrolled in Southeastern Iraq shortly after the invasion I would have loved to see someone like Marlene Dietrich,but I had to settle for the complete Wagner Ring cycle recording by Solti, Twilight of the Gods is not exactly the best thing to be listening to when you are in a combat zone.

@MsPeabody1 This was really just a charming and simple love song from the point of view of a lonely soldier thinking of his girlfriend and how they would meet "Underneath the lamplight." It was something that any soldier in any army could relate to and thus it became a popular and much loved song among Allied troops as well as within German ranks. Listen to an English language version to understand the context of the lyrics. It has unfortunately been played as background to death camp images.

@MsPeabody1 The song was originally written in 1915 by a school teacher from Hamburg, Germany who had been conscripted into the Imperial German Army, so it actually predated Nazi Germany. While it gained renewed popularity in Germany during WWII I don't think it was considered an "anthem" nor did it contain any political message. It is unfortunate that after the war it was often used as background sound by the victors when showing death camp footage. And, yes, the German version is the best.

Nobody can sing "Lili Marlene" like Marlene Dietrich did. It gave me the goose bumps always.....Maybe because she was a german she understood the body and soul of this divine song.
This song was on the jukebox where I worked and when it came on, people got very quiet. The candles were flickering and this song would float across the room and it was beautiful.
Learnt from my old uncle Fritz ( no joke ;-) ) who had to fight in Africa Corps vs British 8th, that at a particular time when this song was played by german propaganders the fire was seized

I just realized my father named me Marlene Lynn because the song was sung by Marlene Dietrich (in German) and Vera Lynn (in English) - in only took me over 50 years to figure this out.

Auch von U-Bootkrieg hast du keine Ahnung, denn anfangs ließen sie die Leute in Boote steigen vor der Versenkung oder nahmen selber welche auf teilweise auch durch getarnte Hilfsschiffe, dies war später leider nicht mehr möglich und teilweise waren die Schiffe auch mit Kanonen bewaffnet.

und mit Schulgeschichtswissen kommt man nicht weit. Ja der Mann war so aggressiv und verrückt, dass er pausenlos Friedensangebote machte und verhandeln wollte, sogar Anbot alle Länder zu räumen und Reparationen zu zahlen und dies auch schon wo alles nach Sieg aussah.
Von Alliierter Seite kam nicht eins, nur eine völlige Besetzung mit Morgenthauplan,

@YourWorstNightmareDK Benesch forderte nicht nur alle Sudeten-, sondern auch alle Ostdeutschen östlich der Isthmuslinie Triest-Stettin zu vertreiben. Im Sommer 1917 übergaben er und der spätere Ministerpräsident Kramar den Alliierten ein Memorandum, in dem sie die Zerstückelung Deutschlands und die Einverleibung großer Gebiete des DR forderten. Alleine im Sudetenland lebten 3 Millionen Deutsche und in den restlichen Gebieten.

@YourWorstNightmareDK Sudetenland war eindeutig von Deutschen bewohnt schon seit 1000enden von Jahren lebten ihre Ahnen dort. Tschechen hielten sich nicht an Minderheitenschutzgesetz und Slowaken wollten auch nicht unter der Herrschaft der Tschechen sein also völlig legitim.
Da brauch ich kein Wikipedia für und sowas steht da eh nicht.

Was gingen die polnischen deutschen Probleme an, sie haben es durch Versaill und ihre permanente Unterstürtzung mit Waffen seit 1919 auf Überfalle auf Deutsche,Ukrainer, Kaschuben usw. ermuntert und keinen Einhalt geboten. Dazu kamen permanente Grenzverletzungen und Kriegsdrohunng.

Die Polen hatten die ersten in Europa seit 1919 für Deutsche, Ukrainer, Kaschuben und dann für die sowjetischen Kriegsgefangenen des polnisch russischen Kriegs. Deutschland hatte dann ab Mitte der 30er auch welche. Russland Gulags USA hatte welche für Japaner, Deutsche und andere die nicht mit der Politik Roosevelts einverstanden waren. Es war gezielter und geplanter Massenmord der Luftkrieg Churchills kann man wunderbar bei ihm selber nachlesen. Diese Taten haben den Krieg überhaupt nicht verkürzt, haben die Meisten zugegeben.

Churchill hat zuerst Deutsche Städte bombardiern lassen schon 1939 da viel noch keine einzige Bombe auf GB. Der Luftkrieg Lindemanns und Churchill war als Ausrottungskrieg gegen die Zivilbevölkerung konzipiert und dies kann man selbst bei dem Massenmörder Churchill nachlesen. Alliierte wollten doch besser sein, sie waren es nicht.

Just after midnight, I was suddenly overcome with homesickness and it was my girlfriend's mother and father who comforted me. They still bring to those who lived or grew through those dark days memories of those loved ones who died in the front or at home, and the atrocities committed on both sides. They are very nostalgic songs full of meaning.

The song is really beautiful especially when Marlen Dietrich is singing it.
It was was very popular among German's during the WWII, sa well as "Katusha" for Russian's.
But I can't help but cry and wonder what my late father would feel about this German song when he was fighting Nazi from July 1941 till May 1945. He was wounded 4 times, was in the hospitals, then back to the field. Meanwhile, all his family of 5 in Russia was murdered in 1943.

One was gunner on a german armored train patroling the balkans . one was hurt in a battle for a ukrain city called charkow, my grandfathers brother was killed in charkow, the 3rd battle of charkow, march 1943 against red army. I orderd their military documents, its interesting.

Leider.Die Platte "Wiedersehn mit Marlene" entstand im Studio.Der Applaus und Marlenes Ansagen sowie auch der Life "Flair" wurden den Aufnahmen untergemischt.Mir sind auch keine Fimdokumente von ihren Auftritten in Deutschland Mai 1960 bekannt.Szene von der Ankunft Flughafen usw gibt es aber Filmmaterial aus den Konzerten selbst wohl nicht.Oder weiß jemand mehr darüber ?

Oct 1961, I was stationed with the 3rd Inf Div in Wuerzburg Germany. On a particular day myself and 2 GI buddies visited a Gasthaus in center of town, small place, very friendly people at the bar. Someone played Lily Marlene by Dietrich and the whole place started to sing it and look at us. It was such a great instantaneous moment, one Ill never forget. She did the best version I think.

It was something that any soldier in any army could relate to and thus it became a popular and much loved song among Allied troops as well as within German ranks. Listen to an English language version to understand the context of the lyrics. It has unfortunately been played as background to death camp images.

While it gained renewed popularity in Germany during WWII I don't think it was considered an "anthem" nor did it contain any political message. It is unfortunate that after the war it was often used as background sound by the victors when showing death camp footage. And, yes, the German version is the best.

@JackKangaroo1 I also know for the origin of the song.When I said anthem did not mean in any political sense, I meant that soldiers made it like that.I do not think that victors are to blame for scolding this song.If in the movie Ger. soldiers in death camps on one hand are drinking and singing this or other song while at the same time the gas is being released...well,that could be easily truth.They ruined song.
If it was not like that,surely I would be enjoying in this song 100%.

@MsPeabody1 Okay, a good song has been ruined for you. As an American, and consequently one of the 'victors', I still think it's a great song and would hope that some day it is no longer linked in any way to the vile Nazis of 75 years ago.

Nobody can sing "Lili Marlene" like Marlene Dietrich did. It gave me the goose bumps always.....Maybe because she was a german she understood the body and soul of this divine song.

This song was on the jukebox where I worked and when it came on, people got very quiet. The candles were flickering and this song would float across the room and it was beautiful.

Learnt from my old uncle Fritz ( no joke ;-) ) who had to fight in Africa Corps vs British 8th, that at a particular time when this song was played by german propaganders the fire was seized
all over the front. British, french expat troups, GIs and german forces listened before madness went on. Poor guys on all side and good enough that Europe started to learn from his history - at least sometimes ,

I listen to this song with thrill in my heart - everytime. Visiting Berlin I can feel the same you've mentioned. I suppose not only Europe cannot cast it off from its inner memory; it is written in each inch of place where I'm living. Reading books by Heinrich Boll you can feel the same.

I just realized my father named me Marlene Lynn because the song was sung by Marlene Dietrich (in German) and Vera Lynn (in English) - in only took me over 50 years to figure this out.

Patriotic American, entertained and comforted the allies in WWII. Marlene was awarded the Congressional Medal of Freedom. Was still respected enough in Germany where she RIP in Berlin today.
