Fantastic video and very informative. I also had heard that consummating a marriage publicly also signified submission of the wife to the authority of her husband. But perhaps that's just a superstition too :)

Great video. I've also heard many superstitions including walking under a ladder were often said to be based on common sense. Walking under a ladder was seen as a safety issue and so one of the ways to stop people doing this was to tell them it could bring them bad luck. Smashing a mirror was similar, ie if you smash it you could hurt yourself so be extra careful. The nursery rhyme Oranges and Lemons was based on the Black Death too.

I used to be,but once you find out the origins of superstitions, you kinda become less superstitious if you see what I mean ;O)
