I got a controller for a present this year from ebay. It looks different from a regular controller and the analog sticks have more resistance to them, like a 360 controller. On the package it says that Sony does not manufacture the controller. What I'm wondering is if this controller is poor quality, will it break after a while, or screw up my ps3?
I ordered one with the manufacture of sony and off amazon for like 15 less, usual stuff like that happens i get it, i have everything wrong in this video except the screw hole

Not all of the controllers' LEDs are going to be perfectly flush with the rest of the controller. Two of my controllers came in the box with my PS3, one is from 5 years ago, one is from yesterday. Neither of those are perfectly aligned with the controller casing. I bought another official controller a year and a half ago at Gamestop, and the LED's on it are aligned nice and smoothly. It really just depends on the controller. If something's wrong, you tend to notice differences like that.
how bout stop being cheap and buy a real controller from gamestop online or in stores. its better to waist 60 dollars for a real controller and have it working that waist a 20-30 bucks on a controller that doesnt work and EBAY?? really amazon is wayy more reliable than ebay. Just looking at the online pictures of the Black Dual Shock 3 Controller and comparing it with the Black Dual Shock 3 Controllers sold at a lot of online retailers...it appears as though the real DualShock 3 controller that's sold at the SonyStyle website does not look like it has a glossy plastic finish beneath the directional pad buttons and the buttons with colors on the right, but on most of the Black Dualshock3 controllers sold on many online retailers there is a glossy finish below them.
the real problem with those controllers are the Bluetooth sync, after 3.51 firm they will never sync. You have to use it with usb cord. So modding it for arcade is not good at all, because the controller PCB is not good quality anyway. But with cord and games from the PSN not games like FPS is good to play.
Don't buy controllers off of eBay folks only replacement parts which also will not be authentic but as for sharp edges they can be sanded down and at least you know that it will not be an authentic product that you will only buy because of a broken part or a custom job
Always go in store or order off of a well known website like gamestop or gamestation

I actually bought one of these fake ones. My shit was apparent from the get-go when I got it. The jewel button didn't have the PS3 logo, it just read "P3". lol...
But anyway, I got a new controller from Walmart, and it's fucking made out of the same material as the fake shit. It's wayyy lighter than the original DS3 controllers that had the gloss finish, and the seam where the controller comes together is sharp as fuck. It's really disappointing the brandname DS3 is shitty now.

I'm a ps3 guy, and love Sony, though they are pricey but you get what you pay for, except for the ps3 controllers. I've went through 3 controllers already, good thing I checked this vid out, I got burned on some jordans and made sure to see if fake ps3 controllers even existed after seeing eBay prices. Never had an xbox but played at a few of my friends places before they switched, the xbox controllers feel real heavy duty.

You can spot a fake when the sticks are not smooth. They can be tight, but if their not smooth, its fake. Circle the sticks and if it nudges there (like jumps to the position) and doesnt move there nice and smothly, then its a fake.
I think they've improved their fakes cause most of the things this video says to look for aren't present on my gold fake. What remains is unremoved flashing under the heads of the L3/R3 buttons, slight rattling of buttons when shaken, different polish on XOTS buttons, and lights shine through case. I don't care that it's a fake except that it lags when played wirelessly on a PS3 slim, but not on a ps3 fat.
@GeometersApprentice the inside is real cheap and the sauder/solder came off the connection to the back buttons so ones side didnt work so i just pulled apart the other side n said fuck it,, not worth re-soldering,, so now its sumwhat of a paper weight other than using it with netflix,, china is cheap as hell
90% of your argument is invalid. The line between the front and back is almost never perfect, white blue and red controllers all have the light shine through them. The lights stick out some on almost all controllers. The PS button is the same color, it jsut looks different against a different color. The only part that was true was the syncing problems, but even then, the controller could have a problem.

@GeometersApprentice In the UK where I am, these are around £12. Genuine pads are around £35. So that is approximately a third of the price.... I stand by my comment. I was also generalising. Any item that is significantly cheaper on eBay is probably going to be counterfeit and only a fool would think otherwise.

One good fake-hint that I found is the led-lamp on the controller (1-4) switches OFF by itself after a while, with original it does NOT turn off.

I'm a ps3 guy, and love Sony, though they are pricey but you get what you pay for, except for the ps3 controllers. I've went through 3 controllers already, good thing I checked this vid out, I got burned on some jordans and made sure to see if fake ps3 controllers even existed after seeing eBay prices. Never had an xbox but played at a few of my friends places before they switched, the xbox controllers feel real heavy duty.

You can spot a fake when the sticks are not smooth. They can be tight, but if their not smooth, its fake. Circle the sticks and if it nudges there (like jumps to the position) and doesnt move there nice and smothly, then its a fake.

I think they've improved their fakes cause most of the things this video says to look for aren't present on my gold fake. What remains is unremoved flashing under the heads of the L3/R3 buttons, slight rattling of buttons when shaken, different polish on XOTS buttons, and lights shine through case. I don't care that it's a fake except that it lags when played wirelessly on a PS3 slim, but not on a ps3 fat.

90% of your argument is invalid. The line between the front and back is almost never perfect, white blue and red controllers all have the light shine through them. The lights stick out some on almost all controllers. The PS button is the same color, it jsut looks different against a different color. The only part that was true was the syncing problems, but even then, the controller could have a problem.
