What he said about the UPPs is just not true. Nothing changed since the last Mayor. The current mayor was re-elected and kept the UPP project which started in 2007, 2008. Lot of people are whinners and ignore that a massive support of the people who live at favelas (85%). These people are young and they may have no idea what life was like a decade ago. UPPs is a massive, intelligent success and the World should take notes. I believe that resistance is related to a moral issue.

A moral issue because they don't want authorities over their lives. They say: "no, we will decide what is the best for us without any government or authority"; ignoring the fact that the UPP project was debated, discussed tirelessly for years before implementation. This attitude "who are you to tell me what to do"? do not exist among the immense majority of the citizens of favela. They are all out there supporting. The authorities in Rio are doing a marvelous work. Lets support the good guys!!
