It's a good cover, but it sounds very similar to the original, all bar the solo. I'm a big of both bands, but like Manson's Personal Jesus and Tainted Love, that's adopting it to the band's style and making it their own. Check out The Wombat's version of Jesse J - Price Tag as a example!
Just look at it on page 10...=( Ok just joking,a bit said my comment is not anymore top comment(it had 48 thumbs up - my record), but still happy to see and hear a Velvet Revolver song...=)
The more i listen to this, the more i hate it, ELO's recording was part of the concept album El Dorado, with crisp orchestrations, awesome singing talent, feeling to the words, musical instrument talent, producing talent, and was a proper original piece of music. This isn't any of that.
@RadaMcLaren32C I am starting to hate this song too, but for other reasons...to be honest I don't knew that this is a cover (shame on me), but it makes me remember to all the things...I want to forget. But it's so awesome that I have to listen to. And just like the memories, the song can't get out of my head too.
I think the song went the wrong way up the spectrum, i think someone like Alison Moyet would be more at home with a song like this, not Slash. Don't like the change in the lyrics either.
They tried but I don't thinking rocking this song was the right approach but that's my biased opinion because nobody writes good songs from the heart anymore like ELO etc.I think Dream Theater or Queensryche would've done a much better rendition of this song because they're more talented than the guys in V.R.
@blitzspeer Dream Theater suck a doing cover they try too hard to put overtechnical stuff in it and that doesn't serve the song well Queensryche are good but VR did a pretty good job on it
great cover and guitar solo, only a change of the lyrics from original @ :40 "walking through the burning rain"? you mean "walking on a wave chicane" Still, it works. I enjoyed.
Velvet revolver?...seriously, how much closer could they get to Guns and Roses. why not Satin Holster? Silky Nine? Steel magnolia's? oh that was taken...lol. Not even to close to ELO or guns and roses in talent.
I must admit, I was a bit skeptical about this when I first came across it. Dammit, Scott Weiland, get your shit together! You are so freaking talented. Amazing cover! And Slash just kills it. Awesome.
Have to say I am an ELO purest to the highest measure and most covers piss me off! But I think this does rock however leave the fuckin lyrics alone boys! Just got to the solo while typing this bit! Fuckin rules does'nt it!
@knighterrantfilms Remember, this is an elo song and a lot of people compared ELO to the Beatles, or rather said that the Beatles were a large influence on ELO's music.
Yo tarareaba "Yo la he visto a orillas del mar" con la melodía del estribillo "And I can't get it out of my head" ¡Ambas tienen 9 sílabas! Sin embargo es imposible que teniendo 12 ños como tenía cuando al tarareaba, ahora tengo 41, la haya traducido por mi cuenta.
O sea, mi conclusión es que había una versión en castellano de "Cant Get It Out Of My Head"!!!
like this song but i wish we ll see the 5 guns n roses again....i love the old gnr but not the ''new'' ones or the velvet revolver (slash solo album is much better than the v.r.
One of the best covers ever done! I've never heard another band cover ELO! Which has to be difficult to do because of ELO's unique sound and use of string instruments. LOVE this cover version by Velvet Revolver.
I am still grieving over the loss of Velvet Revolver. It was a perfect band. As for this song, there is no need to have to choose one version over the other. They are two separate songs, and we are all free to like only one of them or both of them, or, I guess, neither of them, but then you wouldn't be here! Thanks OOMk12.
if you don't like this version DON"T LISTEN TO IT and don't say it's bad just because you like an other version more, what if velver revolver fans start spamming the ELO version would you appreciate that? NO!
It's such a good song, even a bunch of poseur drug addicts and alcoholics can sound good doing it. Even Rush Limbaugh would sound half-assed okay doing it.
Claim to be an expert but give credit where it's due. Jeff Lynne vocals, electric and acoustic guitars, bass, keyboards, orchestra and choral arrangements. Velvet Revolver just follows him that's all.
I don't understand some ELO fans bashing this? Its a Marvelous version! ELO's original was Symphonic Rock, this is a Hard Rock ballad version, they Both OWN!

Slash performing in this song with his guitar solo is just horrible. He is able to wake up ELO dead guitarst Kelly Groucutt and have him take that guitar and smash it against floor and say to Slash.
"If you think you are legendary guitarst THINK again because that was bad"
@American86 Idiot! Kelly was the bass player. Stop fighting. ELO, great band. VR, great band, "Can't get it out of my head", great song. There, everyone's happy!
Oh my god!!!!! I am a die hard "Electric Light Orchestra" Fan and I am ashame how this so call band name Velvet Revolver destroyed a wonderful hit song that made in 1974.
This verison of this song is CRAP. I "Electric Light Orchestra" verison was lot more better at least I understood words to song perform by ELO!
Very good cover, great singing, smashing rythm guitar sound, good arrangements suitable for the band's style and sound. I don't like very much Slash's wha guitar solo but it's not bad
Why does it have to be better or worse? Try to just listen and have a good time hearing it all (Weiland's voice, Slash, Duff, everone in their own right...) I'll never understand why people criticize on here, when I hear something crap I just click away from the page...
What I find remarable is that this video has more views than the orginal ELO version. Maybe young people will find the ELO version and some of ELO's other stuff, and get turned on to the musical genious of Jeff Lynne (elo frontman).
@adanilo379 Guns n' roses - it's classic, thanks to original voice of axl, and great guitar duo, lead-rhytm, slash-izzy. obviously i'm talking about the old times, not chinese democracy. and velvet revolver? for me it's only slash. the vocalist sounds average and he also looks like homo. if slash wasn't in this band nobody would hear about it. btw. slash's solo blows my mind.
Youtube's posting is the first time I've heard Velvet Revolver's cover of this Jeff Lynne classic. I could have done without the unnecessary changes to the lyrics, but overall this is a credible version of one of Lynne's greatest songs. Slash's blistering solo adds a new dimension to the piece. Well played!
fuckin hell your like the 1000th person to say that, get the fuck over it, yes maybe i should have put (studio version) or whatever but just listen to it and stop complaining about the little things for fuck sake.
They have covered this song, Pink Floyd's "money", Talkin head's "Psycho Killer", and of course a few GnR's songs as well as STP's as far as i know. Please feel free to add any other VR covers...Love them

how old were you when you first heard the original? ya see i was 15 or 16 when i heard it the place and time made it special therefor you cant in my opinion, cant touch the original. which is way better. its ELO's baby.
The chorus is the only part I really like... But it's nice to see that some bands still respect old legends like Jeff Lynne. Eldorado, the birth of ELO's consecutive pwnage on all music from 76 to 82.
hate to tell you guys that arent from the era of the original that theres no way that you could respect this version.a new spin on a classic. they both are fine..
This version is at least as good as the original. I had not heard the original until recently, but it definitely hasn't stood the test of time. I can't say if this one will be relevant 20 or 30 years from now, but goddamn, right now it sure rocks my socks. :D
are you serious? the original is a beautiful and haunting song. this is rocked up and loses the beauty and soul of the original. this does nothing for me.
You're right. Slash isn't an asshole. He's a saint. He had some interview with Gibson, and he walks in (in a SUIT!) 15 minutes early, APOLOGIZING for being late! And the receptionist looks up, a look of holy respect for the rock idol before her on her face, and rises out of respect and holds out her hand for a shake--and you know what Slash does? He IGNORES the gesture and pulls this woman into a friendly embrace, begging her pardon that he's SO late! A Saint. That's just the person he is.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
quick machines is fucking shite! worst song they have done besides drop that dime which was terrible! whats with it! best songs from this piss poor album (compared to contraband that is) are grave dancer, mary mary and get out the door! its about a shemale ffs! :D
I watched an interview where Slash and it seemed like he wasn't very happy making this cover of an ELO song. Don't know if he doesn't like making cover songs or ELO or Jeff Lynne?
I recall he said he met Jeff at a restaurant and wasn't real enthusiastic. Slash is a great musician himself and I was surprised there was a lack of respect for a legend like Jeff.
Slash is a great guitarist. One of the best, maybe he was having a bad day. I've met Billy Sheehan, Steve Vai, and Zakk Wylde. They were all super cool people.
This is great, I don't care if they copied it. Artists are copying each other all the time. Eminem "Sing for the Moment" and Aerosmith "Dream On". There are many more but that one comes to mind right now. Just because it is copied, doesn't mean it is bad. I like both Aerosmith's and Eminem's. I personally like this one better, but both "Can't get it out of my head" versions are good in their own way
I could feel with ELO version more, where as this one just feels like jamming at points. The ELO version I can listen to on repeat and almost fall into a trance. Cause the singer is letting all his feelings out in the lyrics. The orchestra background adds a perfect balance to the song as well. Maybe someone else can explain it better.

Electric Light Orchestra sings the original, so it's a lush orchestrated ballad.

hate to tell you guys that arent from the era of the original that theres no way that you could respect this version.a new spin on a classic. they both are fine..

Remaking the ELO original is, at any rate, a tribute to ELO, one of the most underrated classic rock bands of all time!!!

Actually, I like this as much if not more than the original.

Good cover. Great actually

Great cover. I like this version just as much as the original. I'm from the 60's and 70's era, so my opinion counts.

I was surprised they'd cover an ELO song, but then again, Def Leppard covered '10538 Overture.'
CaptGage 3 years ago
It's a great song and Velvet Revolver did it proud.
