If I was the pilot of any plane and I lose my engines, I'm gonna do what I can to save my own life - fuck the rest of you.

In this situation however, his safest bet was to bring the whole plane down safely.

If you REALLY WANNA SEE IF A PILOT WHO MANAGES TO DO THIS IS A TRUE HERO - EQUIPT HIS PLANE WITH AN EJECTION SEAT and give him the OPTION to land the plane or BAILOUT !!!!

Smart (and very brave) pilot. Glad he didn't listen to "the authority", actually thought for himself and used his own experience, skills, and wit as his guide. He saved everyone on that plane, and averted a potential major disaster in the heart of New York City. My hat's off to THAT pilot!

A great place for an emergency landing, too. Lots of boats that could help and stuff! Great that the Hudson is there! At so many other airports this would have become a really bad crash. :)
