  • it worked but wouldnt it be better to just bend the clamps to increase the pressure on the graphics processor?

My playstation fan is on full all the time now :(

  • thanks mate, does work for slim too btw didn't have pennies don't know if there is any difference in size but used australian 5c coins coated in vicks vapor rub, works so far.

  • thank you.

  • This worked like a charm

  • cut your nails

  • is your ps3 still working now or did it break again

  • thanks man this worked for my 40gb,but did not work for the 60gb that still has the green light of death

  • the fans really loud because after putting the pennies in there, it gets hotter. is there a way to not make the fans push so hard?

  • nice tutorial but what is this 4 white thing?

  • @kebn1000 Learn how to spell before you try to insult someone, Thank you.

  • Thank you!!!! I tried this and it worked!!! I had just started playing Batman Arkham City when my PS3 went blank. Unfortunately, I had to erase my saved data for the game. All my other saved games were fine. The game kept saying saved game data was corrupted. Weird how only one game was affected. But again thanks!!!

  • gonna try this gotta be better than frying your board! i wish sony and Microsoft would just make things to last like Nintendo!!! there just blatantly ripping us gamers off!!!like they ent got enough cash in there pockets!!!

  • Thank you so much, this method worked, and I didn't have to do any stupid button pushes on my on/off switch on my consul, thanks again bro...

  • Big thanks for the video, i read few more tutorials (how to open and few more details) but thanks to your info i manage to fix it. Lot of thanks again!!!

  • thumbs up for the 7 people who don't have 4 pennies but somehow can afford internet access.

  • This didn't work for me. Still the green light and no start up. Its not the hard drive either.

  • clip your damn nails bra

  • Cut your Nails

  • No No No...if your system was not on the carpet u wouldn't have had this problem at all...your system probably overheated!

  • funny voice you shold do rage quits no offense

  • ty for your tutorial,at firs i didnt believe in your theory of 4 pennies, but when I tried it worked. ty again =)

  • thx bro IT WORKED!!

  • you know what ? GO FUCK YOURSELF

  • Fuck You Niger

  • @babylontorch grow up pointless waste of sperm, air, space.... you get the picture, pretty much the world would be a better place minus you.

  • You aren't supposed to touch the circuit board. It won't show up immediately but will shorten the longevity of the board.

  • It works, the 7 $ thermal compound to coat the pennies just saved me 300 $.... THANKS MAN!!!!!

  • wolfman in up in the house!!

  • Jesus Christ. At least paint those claws of yours!

  • HOLY FUCK DUDE I LOVE YOU... YOU SAVE ME $300

  • When i turn my ps3 on there are no standby lights, the only way to turn it on is to put a disc in and then it will only last 3 secs until it shuts down any ideas

  • @nobody8064

this is wrong 40gb has the best fan, feel around playstation and u can only notice a bit of heat coming from rear of playstation otherwise the unit stays cool

  • this may sound gay but i love u it actually works lololololo thank god i tryed everything

  • sometimes my ps3 wont turn on(no audio no video) and when it turns on working in a few minutes screen becomes frozen and there are some lines... do you know how to fix such a problem or what is it about?

  • there's no way to fix this without put all these apart?

My problem is that i start by touching the read light which become green, but nothing other than just that happends.

  • Oh can I use artic silver 5 instead of radio shacks compound?

  • Does this work on 60gb ps3s?

  • all these methods are a temporary fix. basically you have a bad connection most likely cause is because the solder joint has got hot and de-soldered.

if you use the pennies it might work for a while but it will get hot again and you will make it worse.

a heat gun might work because you are heating up the joints and you may possibly re-solder the joints. but you haven't used any flux on a dry joint therefore likely to have a bad connection and wont last long. thats if u dont damage cpu.

  • how to kill a ps3:

put 18 vold on the usb and therye you go

  • HAHA, Love it cheap stupid trick but if it works thats awesome. beats the 140 dollar fix

  • @2EX08 you fan is making that noise because you need to replace your thermal compound you can get it at radio shack

  • @2EX08-

It worked!! But after I did this, my fan start to make very loud noise. Can it be the pennies cause the over heating? I didn't use thermal compound on the penny tho. I didn't have it at home. Is it going to cause a major problem?

  • hahahahahahahahahah i love you man!! this is obviously the wrong way but if it works! (i really dont know) more power to you!! and thanx for showing us and for having the balls to do it!

reballing/reflow is the only way to do it!

    thank you once again!!

  • Sorry dude, dont wanna dis you, but this is a VERY weird and stupid way to fix your ps3

  • @kevintje82onboard Hey it might be stupid but it works. $11.00 fix but hey your welcome to give sony 140 dollars. and as for your comment below about trying other cables, If its not going to boot then its not going to boot. changing your output cables won't do a darn thing for you.

  • Before you try all this, try another av or hdmi cable first!! worked for me so be wise before you tear your ps3 down

  • I just finished your method 2 minutes ago and NO, IT DID NOT WORK!!! Exact same thing happened. I followed your instructions to the letter and do Not believe I made an error in the dissassembly/re-assembly process.

Possible reasons it worked for u and not me:

1- Im Aussie so had to use 5C coins (1.3mm thick) while u used Penys (1.55mm)

2- Australian model may have minor differences in hardwear

Tho it did not work I'll say thanks for time spent making vid 2EX08, was it was worth a try.

  • Just used this method to repair my 60gb model. Thing had been broken for over a year until I stumbled across this video. Works great now.

    Thanks mate!

  • Uh, worked absolutely perfectly for my unit (60GB BC unit, bought as a Gamestop refurb 2+ years ago so warranty was already way out). Dunno what everyone else is complaining about.

  • Your an idiot kid... really putting pennies on the GPU are you dumb????

  • check this video out PS3 80GB Disassemble And Reassemble CFW Over Heating GLOD/YLOD Working FIX 4 Penny FIX PART 1

  • if only the green light doesnt work then it went out just like on my ps3 after overheating everytime, if the ps3 completely loses contact and wont work, for gods sakes dont do this do the ylod tutorial, it restarts everything dont do this penny trick cuz it will eventually after overheating it will leave marks on rsx chip or damage it internally, ylod do at your own risk, ive done ylod fix 6 times for alot of problems and has always worked

  • clean the alcohol for CPU and worked without YLOD, I think.

  • systemnstuff com/repair

  • check out my forum if you want to talk about what ps3 you have and if this will work on yours. systemnstuff/repair make a post in the forum and i will get with you to help you find out if this will work on your ps3. thanks again 2ex08

  • Thanks so much for the help i did want you said in the video to my ps3 that was the same model number as yours and it works. i will post my video of it working later thanks again.

  • did you know that you just voided your warranty by opening your system now you have to pay 299.00 and up when you could just paid 99.00 to psn.

to all people if you open your system it will void your warranty that mean that psn will not fix the system not even 99.00 so "don't open your system" that means don't listen dumb ass!

  • If this happens, your GPU is dead.

  • what if your ps3 comes on but it only shows the ps3 lego but nutthing eles

  • trim your nasty nails

  • Thanks alot, worked a treat! i had my doubts about this but i had nothing to lose, an it worked :D.. ps3 is abit loud now but atleast its workin lool thank you

  • @xSiiLVERM0NK3Yx i did this on a 60GB btw..

  • Hi-we followed a method after Green light-no video problem. Used solder flux(no clean) and heat gun, arctic silver, and were very careful. No when we power on; we only get the restore message-Plug in controller thru USB port---and it will not do anything else- it freezes and have to turn the power off & same thing again. We called Sony and they said this is a rare problem but no help. We have a model H01-40GB. After repair worked for few minutes, freezes and now this message every time. POS!!!

  • @jax111142

Its official, botany is NOT my specialty! LOL!

  • @2EX08 Just wanted to say that your video did help me, its very similar to the process of repairing an xbox 360, i obtained 3 broken ps3's from a place i used to work, 2 needed a reformat, and the one i just repaired 30 min ago by using your little tip. Ty

  • @yp1391

I guess that means botany isn't my specialty after all.

  • What did you do to fix it?

  • She should spark real good after that.

  • My PS3 turns on and works fine but the Green light doesn't show at all. It's so weird.

  • the ps3 is worth 4 cents more now ha

  • This worked a treat ! you just saved me £250. Thank you !!

  • Do you have to put thermal solution on the pennies or will it work without?

  • Comment removed

  • same problem, turn on first time it will run for 1minute then freezes screen with graphic errors all over looking like colored lines and boxes all over screen. Turn off and reboot and no video. PLEASE HELP!

  • ur nails are discusting

  • @yp1391 lol i was thinking the same thing

  • @yp1391 How da hell does he wipe his ass without getting shit on his hand??????????????/lmao

  • @yp1391 lol

  • dude what are you fucking doing in this video? xS your are slowly are you high? you take appart your ps3 you show your prossesors and your risamble your ps3! wtf is this? you reaaaaaaly help me! -,-

  • @yp1391 your mom is discusting you little gay

  • Nice one bro, ive got a 60gb that was doing this. added 4 coins to the RSX and at 1st it didnt work so pressed hard on the area where the blu ray drive sits and it booted. need to adjust pressure and it should be ok.

  • it worked. thanks bro

  • I have the same problem as you had. I tried this method out and it didn't work on my 80 GB version. Might try the heatgun solution, but of course I don't have a heatgun. Any ideas on other ways of fixing the issue?

  • @MajinMalak1

    Sorry, read the description.

  • ok got this problem with my ps3 today and after searching all da vids and forum on internet i rehaeated my ps3 and applied pressure on the RSX gpu on motherboard of ps3 n den kept the pressure on until the motherboard cooled down.after that i assembled it and turn it on and voilà it worked .try this. i got this idea frm that coin fix of green light.

  • this video sucks i tried it because my system was doing the same thing and it still did not work thanks jerk

  • @MrHoodrich25

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you!

A friend of mine said that doing this trick with a heat gun is more effective but I don't have any REAL proof of this working so you can try it if you want but try at your own risk.

By the way, this method doesn't work 100% of the time, on the contrary, its success rate is less than 50% (estimate).

Once again, I apologize, but if you can please give me the manufacturing date and model number of your PS3, I would appreciate it.

    Thank you!

  • what type of pennies do i have to use? copper? or a different type of material?

  • Any luck with finding a solution for 60GB launch models?

  • what did you do on the penny's?

  • @blackneoNL

    Thermal compound.

    Sorry I took so long.

  • Best thing about this video is I could take a nap, wake up and he would just be finishing his sentence. Kidding aside, good job kick starting that bad boy. I loved hearing that ps3 chorus when you turned it on. I've got a local guy working on my ps3 right now because of this problem. I've been depressed for days thinking my endless hours of Fallout Vegas are gone. Got my fingers crossed. Thanks for the vid!

  • Will Update work?

  • @dustinbriggs1991

    Please rephrase the question.

  • Well...I tried this and it still doesn't work. Oh well, only cost me 15 bucks on a torx and paste to try it. I wasn't supposed to re-apply paste to the heatsink as well was i? I just put it on the GPU, CPU, and the pennies. Maybe I'll leave it on for awhile to see if the paste sets in or something.

I may have a deeper issue w/ something else damaged along the line from the GPU and the video outputs.

  • @phishbfm just before i do that, i have the same situation that the video showed only once but later died less than 3 minutes. thats the last time i ever saw the screen again. Do you think i should put the pennies or sell it and get over with

  • @phishbfm

Sorry it took me so long to reply, I just recently picked up a launch model and as far as I can see, its ALMOST impossible to repair the launch model using my method so I guess I will just figure out another method specifically for launch models.
