Angela has always considered her best vocal performance to be in "Dear World". it is truly an amazing technique she shows. I like anything she sings. She has a most unique style and I always know "that's Angela". Wish we had more of these home movie moments. I filmed some of "Dear World", but it is silent super 8 mm. Some was used in Amber Edward's Documentary on Jerry Herman shown on PBS.
Wow!! What love and care to put this together with the Cast recording track.
The sync is about 2 measures off, but what the hell---it is wonderful. I gives a good impression of the excitement this moment created. That was Dave Gale on trumpet hitting those out of the staff high notes. Dave was 2nd trumpet, but also took the 1st parts for high notes. Ruth Ramsey--top soprano( high C# at the end). Hilda Harris, Mezzo--she had top Bb's. I enjoyed every show conducting this show. Don Pippin
Thank you so much for your wonderful and informative comments...it really made my day. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Sorry about being off the two measures...my nephew tried his hardest. Thanks for all the amazing works you have given us on Broadway...you have provided millions of people from all around the world with unforgettable entertainment and joyful memories to last a lifetime.
Thanks so much for posting this I got to see Angela in Mame in 1976 and have wished for many years that someone back in the day had filmed even one performance of Mame from 1966 when it first opened on Broadway
thank's for this. I am rehearsing for Mame, and this is helping a lot, with the original soundtrack playing. I don't play banjo a lot, so I am getting a workout. This version matches the score exactly.
I first heard this song in Branson mo a show called Broadway i liked it from the jump since ive returned 3 times just to hear em sing this one song! What a song beautiful dancers wonderful lyrics how can ya beat it! tks for this wonderful video!
I saw Mame in Philadelphia before it opened on Broadway. That gives you an idea of how old I am! These videos have given me more pleasure than you can possibly imagine. I have watched them many times on TIVO on my large screen. Made me feel like twenty again! Many thanks from Uncle Sal
@salandstef Hi SAL. Well I guess I'm old too. I first saw her in 1966 when I arrived in NYC from Germany when I was discharged from the Army. I was lucky to havea friend that got me a single ticket to see Mame. What a wonderful experiance that was. Since then I have seen perform more than 20 times and I have been corresponding with her since 1973. I just got a letter from her about a week ago. I would really like to hear from you again and exchange stories on Angela. Ernie
@poshmum I'm glad you liked it. I was lucky enough to have seen the original Mame, but I never got to see the revival. I will be going to NYC next month to see her i A Little Night Music. Ernie
I saw this original Bway production with Angela in Boston, in 1966 just a couple of weeks before the NY opening. For so many years I have wanted to see ANYTHING from that show but alas in those days video was poor and Equity would never allow filming. (I think this video footage is from Jerry Herman's 8mm home movies, I think. Not sure) Anyway. I nearly puked when I saw Ball in the film. A fish outta water.
THANKS SOOOO MUCH FOR PUTTING THIS TOGETHER !!
