Well, this is certainly a real world wake up call.. THANK YOU ! i put this in my favorites. it explains a lot, we have lived in this house since about 2003 and the water heater was here when we moved in.. where can i locate the date of installation? also,when i run the hot water, it takes a good 60 seconds or more to get it to run clear, it comes out looking like milk sometimes, an off white dirty color.. what does this indicate? $450-$500 / month utility bills from Dec to March ( average)
@yellowgroove - On the front of your water heater, usually above the lower element on electric or the control valve on a gas one, a small sticker about 4" by 4" is usually there. The first 2 numbers in the serial number is always the year the tank was created. As far as installation, only a permit pulled out on the heater with an approved sticker on it will reveal the true installation date. That milky color could be calcium carbonate. Try draining it once to see if it helps.
@DUNBARPLUMBING thanks, the white sticker with the signature of the county health district says 1984 on it... that can't be right could it? if so, that would explain the yellow sticker with the average yearly energy cost which says $474.00
@yellowgroove - There's a very good chance it is that old. Even with the new efficiency of the heaters made today, the energy guide usage costs hover around $532 most times, given that charges on a national level have went up on cost per kilowatt.
forgot to mention, its an electric unit @240 volts
