  • Inside left, Chuck Norris!

  • At 1:04, Eric Clampton shows what we all need to feel. He plants his feet, and does what he does better than anyone else. We all have that in us. Plant your feet and do what you do.

  • Cold People ! Cold !

  • The best version.

  • Beautiful.

Thank you guys so much for the music.

    Just amazing.

  • this is, IMHO, the best version of this song.

  • This was right after Jack Sonni's daughters were born, so the joke was that Eric Clapton was Jack's "last minute stand-in"... good stuff, good stuff.

And yes, I agree with everyone who has said it, Mark has a gorgeous smile.

  • an explosive finale !!!

  • lmao eric didnt solo erics playing rhtym you divvy haha how pathetic are you you dont know nothing mate! read a few books mate!

  • @Neversleeps1979 Actually Eric does solo but within the context of the tune. In other songs of the same gig Eric does more soloing the way us guitarists would use the word. Then let's remember there's no prestige in soloing every here and there. Eric is just glad he was asked to back Dire Straits on this occasion as I'm sure Mark would have been had he been asked by Eric to return the favour. You can tell the guys love sharing the stage.

  • What an awesome way of introducing Eric Clapton :)

  • And Mark likes Schecter but he never turn down a Strat,,,

  • The best ever...as a Knopfler and Clapton fan, the best I ever seen!!!

  • I remember reading an interview with Clapton where he talked about the shows he did with Dire Straits. Mark wouldn't let him just show up, play some chords and then do a solo. He had to actually learn the whole set.

  • Fuckin awesome song.

  • Well, that wasn't too good. If God was on earth for a visit that night he was at Wembley. Never were there two such good players and such modest, unassuming guys. Mark is almost beyond tasty...although in this instance he deferred to the Clapton "sound" and Eric is so tuneful he always shows that it is the number of notes you play but the feeling of each note. "Slow Hand" is a master.

  • "this is the reason we got the men back together" :D

    OOOH yeah!!

  • @2:50 That sinfully gorgeous smile.....

    It. Should. Be. Illegal.

Oh Lord, please have pity on my poor old heart.....

  • Maybe he will play at my birthday party!!

  • This is as good as it gets!!!

  • This is as good as it gets!!!

  • Nelson Mandela is a lucky man.

  • So damn good :)

  • Dog Sweede1 thank you for posting those fantastic dire strairts videos, brilliant

  • am i the only one that thinks that Clapton's hair is awesome in this video?

  • ok Clapton, play a major lead instead of the 4 note blues scale that you always play, this is not a normal blues lead song, all great players but sometimes you gotta step out of your comfort zone...just sayin, i love the concert but i could play that lead when i was like 14...

  • ok Clapton, play a major lead instead of the 4 note blues scale that you always play, this is not a normal blues lead song, all great players but sometimes you gotta step out of your comfort zone...just sayin

  • who recons mk and clapton should do a tour in the 2000s playing together that would be fucking awsom

  • I need a time machine to go back then to Wembley

  • God I love Eric Clapton but Mark is his equal here!

  • I love MK's introduction of Eric Clapton. "We have a stand in, I'm very sorry about this...He never played at Wembley before, but he's the best we could do, you know"

  • is that a fender or schecter tele?

  • @tannerr96 - It's a Schecter one. :)

  • @DogSwede1 do you happen to know where to get the schecter strat he uses?

  • @DogSwede1 my Squier is much better lol XD

  • Clapton and Knopfler... the "lords of guitars"

    u both rock!!

  • I'm sorry, I love this video, but lmao @ 5:53. The 80s...

  • How cool was that? I was privileged to be there too!

  • knopflers cked outta his tits look at his jaw goin wild hahaha gd lads

  • that's what you think, i'm a really rock n roll and blues lover

so maybe you need to listen more music!

oh by the way im lead guitar on a blues band and i asure you that my little kid play better than this guy!

    byeeeeeeeee

  • @huanchacoboy First of all, how does claptons solo not fit the song?

His just makes a little more rock in it.

Yes he may just play the same scales, but look how good his is at it. And it IMPROVISING, id like to see you improvise like that. Oh, wait i guess you can't, am i right?

You are only a cunt sitting on youtube badmouthing real musicians.

  • @huanchacoboy Why did you remove your comment?

    too scared to show it?

  • @frodo94 yeah cuz all clapton haters r pussies!

  • what does he do ...to beging...........and eric clapton do just nothing ,,,,,,,as always!

the same stupid solos, chords, scales nothing else

i dont really like him casue he repeat always rhe same fuckin things

  • @huanchacoboy

Clapton does nothing? Lets see: millions of adoring fans, dozens of records, a list of hundreds of professional musicians that would love to perform with him and a longer list of musicians inspired by him. What have you done lately.

  • @SjTSail knopler 100 times better

just take a look when they play together LAYLA

if you can realize eric do the same chords and scales in the begining of the song,as always

after knopler solo he just coudnt do nothing because his brain is burned

sorry to desapoint you my little friend

  • En klassiker!

  • In My first cd : 1985

  • who's jack??

  • He played rhythm guitar on Brothers in Arms and the following tour.

  • @DogSwede1

    k thx

  • @DogSwede1 Did he play rhythm guitar on BIA?

  • @magicelliotth according to the notes in the sleeve Mark did all the guitar on BIA

  • @batistabomb619wwecar Jack Sonni, Mark's rythm guitarist.

  • @batistabomb619wwecar he's the happy guitarist with the headband who dances barefoot in the official walk of life video.

  • fantastic performance

  • 2:20, 3:05, 5:38 three solos from EC! Great version of this song

  • WOW!!! CLAPTON!! MARK!!!! There r no words to describe the talent! I was only 5 years old when this concert went down, but my dad recorded it on VHS....oh so lucky!!! • MASTERS!!!!

  • knopfler is tops, such a cool dude

  • a favour:

can some one re-write me what Mark said when he's introducing Eric Clapton?

i'm not english and i didn't understand what he said :(

  • Sure, I can try start from 3:58. It's also hard for me to hear the stuff he say 4:09. :)

"You have might notice that Jack (Sonni) is not with us tonight. Because he has two lovely babies, two little girls, this big.

    So Jack..(?)..Waiting for this moment.

(?)..so 600 millions people can get..(?)

I'm very sorry about this. Last minute standing, trickin at lindside left(?):P

He's never played at Wembley before. It's the best we can do, you know. But he has played before. Eric Clapton!"

  • Now i understand what he did mean :P! thank you

  • Ah what a lovely sight.

Well I'd just like to start with this er..say a big hello to all my friends in the East and all my friends in the West and all my friends at Wembley.

    Yeah...

Now, er, you might've noticed that Jack's not with me tonight, because he's had two lovely babies, two little girls this big.

So Jack, I just thought I'd wait for this moment so that, er, 600 million people could congratulate you for that

  • and we've had to get a stand in, tricky little inside left. And, er, he's never played at Wembley before, but he's the best we could do, you know. But he has played before, Eric Clapton.

Give them a quick run down...

[The reference to inside left is to a position on a football field - they are playing at Wembley the home of football/soccer.

  • and because Mark is sending out the message that they are a group of lads all mucking in for the team and that he [clapton] is the ace up their sleeve.

  • Remember watching this at the time. Tney were one of the biggest bands of the time and having Knopfler and Clapton on stage together was an unadulterated joy. Clapton was the epitome of cool and grace throughout this set - never once tried to upstage the band, like many contemporary artists would surely have done, he just supported them brilliantly and his unassuming style complemented Knopfler's own irreverent manner perfectly - Loved MF's "Get stuck in!" crack prior to Clapton's first solo.

  • E.C. looks like he was enjoying himself

  • 5:12

"Here comes Johnny singing Lay down Sally"

    Song by Clapton. :)

  • Jesus man where do you get all this Mark Knopfler stuff it's F@#king brilliant!! "Get stuck in"

  • thanks for posting this! i've been trying to get hold of dire staits' set from this gig for ages.

  • You're welcome! :)

  • i see you've uploaded solid rock. do you have any more of the concert? where did you get it from in such good quality?
