  • I roast my coffee beans in a $16 Chefmate popcorn popper from Target. It works great and I get beautifully dark-brown slightly oily beans in 5.5 minutes. I live in Hawaii and roast the beans outside without the lid on the popper...just let the chaff blow into the air. Stiring the beans with the handle of a large wooden spoon every 1.5 minutes helps the chaff release from the beans. Wouldn't think of buying a $300-600 coffee roaster when the $16 popcorn popper works sooo well!

  • how long do you actualy roast the beans for?

  • I use a Chefmate popcorn popper from Target and roast for 5.5 for fairy dark-brown, slightly oily beans. Best coffee flavor if you ask me. Of course, this would depend on the humidity in the air and the temperature of the room or outdoors. Basically, roast until the "second pop" plus about 30 seconds.

  • rather haphazard way of roasting

  • add a switch to your popper to turn off the heating element but leave the fan running - so it cools your beans.
