It's a little known fact that Richard Pryor co-wrote BLAZZIN SADDLES. Mel Brooks revealed this in a dialog with Carl Reiner. Brooks went on to say that many of the "racist" scenes would have never been accepted without Pryor's "blessing." Personally, I think the this movie did more to debunk racism than any other. Brooks and all the gifted writers that made contributions, picked on everyone and everything and laughed in the face of racism. Are we Black? Yes, we are! lol
What surprises me is that when Blazing Saddles is shown today on broadcast TV, "up yours" is kept intact, while the n-bomb is bleeped. Compare that to the 1970s or 1980s, when "up yours" was dubbed with "out of my way", but the n-bomb was left intact. (See missing scenes, which are on the DVD).
