in the last part of the prayer, he said "in the memory of our saints" the saints hes referring are the people of all race that have died long before you all were born and dreamed of this day. so what the reverend did is recite some of things people of all color hoped for.

This was a moment to celebrate, and thank God for the fact that Americans (Black and White) had elected a Black President. Instead, Lowery used the opportunity to insult all White Americans with a malicious, racist slap in the face.
I love that the reverend was able to give a moving speech that also included a touch of humor at just the right moment. Nothing in his speech was controversial or disrespectful. As a white man I can say I embrace everything he said and hope for it to come true for our country.

I'm Northern Irish and went to an American Sunday school when I was a child in Ankara, Turkey where I was taught the song: "Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world, red & yellow, black & white all are precious in his sight". For a preacher to publically pray to God to help improve the other races and not his own, and for him and Obama and the crowd to laugh like it was a joke, is utterly ignorant. It is easy to see the insults on yellows and whites, which was really no big deal because it is expected, but it is the blacks, the browns, and the reds, that are put down the most, because he painted them all as still helpless second-class citizens. Cheap laughs yes, but can any thinking person really be proud about that?

I've met quite a few "POOR" people in my time. Do you know what they all have in common? 1. They ALL smoke. 2. They all spend their money foolishly. 3. They all continue having kids when they can't afford them. 4. They all blame others, the system, government etc etc for their poverty. 5. Many of them are boozers or users. 6. It's a hell of a misguded attempt to get all races to get along when about 1/3 of the prayer was lyrics to the "Negro National Anthem" and the final portion was an anti-white slogan that originated in the 60s and has been perpetuated in black homes and churches ever since. Some people have a hard time understanding that UNITY and EQUALITY are inclusive terms. Old guy is stuck in the 60s. Fine. in the last part of the prayer, he said "in the memory of our saints" the saints hes referring are the people of all race that have died long before you all were born and dreamed of this day. so what the reverend did is recite some of things people of all color hoped for.

I love that the reverend was able to give a moving speech that also included a touch of humor at just the right moment. Nothing in his speech was controversial or disrespectful. As a white man I can say I embrace everything he said and hope for it to come true for our country.

A beautiful speech. I'm Northern Irish and went to an American Sunday school when I was a child in Ankara, Turkey where I was taught the song: "Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world, red & yellow, black & white all are precious in his sight". Rev.Lowery's speech reminded me of that teaching. Embrace it one and all. We all own this world, we are equal in God's eyes no matter where we come from or what faith or colour we are. Dr. Lowery was invoking the civil rights slogans of his time, reminding us of the tremendous progress we have made. Saying his remarks are racist is as ridiculous as saying that Martin Luther King was racist for using the term "negro" in his speeches.

What every one of you has failed to realize is that the end was based off of the popular sufferage cry of the 60s and 70s: "If you're white, you're right; if you're brown, stick around; if your yellow, you're mellow; if you're red, you're dead; if you're black, get back." I believe the Reverend included the colours of the four directions representing the colours of men and women around the world.There are times I feel ashamed when I hear white people talking as if they are superior to all other races. The majority of Whites I know aren't racist, they are factual - which means, you judge by the facts of what a person does. I have actually experienced more racism from Black Americans. Check the US DOJ site yourself. You can look at PDFs for crime/victims/offenders.
If you don't see the problem with violent crime committed by black people (I know black on black crime is by far the most common - in fact more blacks have been killed by other blacks in the last 5 years tahn were lynched in 150 years-, but black on white is still more common that white on black) you are blind.
And I am NOT putting blacks down as a whole. But it is a REAL problem that should be recognized.
