  • hey man, what do I do if my black rat snake isn't actually KILLING it's food? I just got new bedding. I change it's water everyday. Keep the temp at 78-85 it has a little wooden hut to go under and it wouldn't kill it but eat it after I killed it.

  • @harryramirez25 you can buy already dead mice and rats at most pet stores. most of the time they are frozen when you get em. so if you dont mind having to nuc em in the microwave for a little bit, than thats a good alternative.

  • to words ga ross

  • Grats on the nice find. Too bad for the opossum but that's life, eh? Excellent footage.

  • @mugs689.. You're kidding right? They are the most hideous creature on earth. I'm deathly afraid of them. No bullshit

  • @mugs689 There harmless till you get rabies.

  • @JustinLawlzALot

It's extremely rare for opossums to get rabies due to their low body temperature.

  • @JustinLawlzALot Do research plz. Spreading misinformation sucks.

  • @mugs689 I feel that same way about snakes.

  • nice vid. cool find.

  • slow poke i would of eat dat in two seconds

  • It really is amazing (and gross!) how snakes eat like this. XP

That is one massive snake. Where do you live?

  • i hope he coughed up hair balls for months

  • @TheCourtnie why? this possum would of ended up road kill anyway... besides don't be a retard, snakes can digest fur

  • what a stupid video thats not an adult possum even and why did u send ur stupid kids and mutt inside its not like the snake can hurt them lol

  • was that possum already dead when he started to eat it? there are flys everywhere...???

  • @iamcarpetpython - He had already eaten it, then regurged it when my dogs started harassing him. Then, once the dogs were put up, the snake ate the possum again.

  • that's awesome. I have a black rat snake. he ate out of my hands the day i caught him.

  • Great video! I just bought a White Sided Black Rat Snake at a local Reptile Show. Our southern Indiana Black Rats can get pretty large as well. The biggest specimen I've found so far was 7'2". I knows they can get larger as well. Biggest one last year was only 6'. I've always had a soft spot for them, always a joy to find!

  • correct me if im wrong but wouldnt it die from too big of a meal

  • In captivity they die from eating meals that are too big because they are dehydrated, their water bowls are filthy, their cage mulch is filthy, etc. In nature, they are able to crawl away from their poop, and they have access to water whenever they want, so death from a large meal in the wild is probably an extreme rarity.

  • They also don't eat prey items that large in captivity.

  • @TJsHerps - If I told you who I was, what I've done, what massive herp website I've run for the last 10 years, which herp societies I've been president of, which TV shows I've worked on, . . . you'd feel about 2 inches tall.

  • @MTbasher07 no they dont not usually the just rugurgate it up. its weird butsnakes cant choke there throat isnt connected to there air way

  • @MTbasher07 Usually, if it's too large of a meal, the snake will regurgitate it, but snakes are pretty stretchy.

  • thats acually a coach whip not a black rat snake.

  • Trust me. That's Pantherophis obsoletus, not Masticophis flagellum. I am kind of an expert on the subject, but I'd rather not give up my identity.

  • @TrackerMedic I second that. I too am a frequent herper and it is plain to me that that is a black ratsnake and not a coachwhip.

  • @TrackerMedic

He does not want to give his identity because he is Steve Irwin, who faked his death-by-stingray! :-)

  • @Snoep76239 - Crikey, I'm found out.

  • No that is not a coachwhip. I keep black rat snakes so I know their look really well. A coachwhip has more of a braided look, and is more slender. The coachwhip's color tends to change from black to brown or tan about midway down the body as well.

  • @toddmcclung1 you got owned

  • they get6-9ft long

  • Very nice you took the dogs back and let the snake finish his well needed and deserved meal lol... kudos =)

  • I wanna party with that snake

  • that shits was funny as hell

  • i found one of these in my yard yesterday, they are huge!

  • oddly enough, as much as I hate the snake eatting whatever in captivity videos, this doesn't bother me. It truly was "in the wild."

  • Nice video!

  • holy fuck those are some big ass flys fuck that im never going to georgia

  • lol, dumbass snake coulda choked

  • woah, crazy!

  • Really interesting video. Thanks for sharing.

  • Wow its amazing,such a big meal for a black rat...nice vid

  • I was hiking in bear mountain over the summer and saw to rat snakes doin the dirty.

  • hahahahahahahaaaaa thats funny

  • thats a good catch for that black rat

  • Where was this clip shot?

  • North Georgia

  • i live in north georgia to

  • i must have taken like at least 20 minutes to finish that opossum...

  • That's about right, and the mosquitoes were tearing me up while I was trying to film that.

  • thats a prety cool find :)

  • I owe that to my "snake dog", Rocky. Rocky is a rescued mini-pinscher who has a particularly good habit of finding snakes and barking furiously at them. He found the largest Black racer, Coluber constrictor, that I have ever seen in the area that I live. Another cool find was a Red bellied water snake that I tossed in my pool and swam with for an hour.

  • min pin's are neat lil dogs :)- i have a german pincher myself which is just a step up from them in size, she has to be right under me or least in my snake room any time I am working with them.

Racers are some prety neat snakes, with a verry undiserved reputation ^_^ much like coach whips. That cool about the red bellied water snake :) I haven't seen one of thsoe in 2 years, they were common around the small area i used to live.

  • It did stink. One of my dogs confronted the Black rat snake, causing it to vomit up the opossum. Once the danger was gone, it re-ate the opossum. That's why the blow flies were there en-mass. It smelled pretty bad.

  • yuck~!

it seems stinky...those flies are disgusting...
