Ahhh, the evolution of console wars: SNES vs. Sega Genesis, PS1 vs. Nintendo 64, and Dreamcast (close-call), PS2 vs XBox and Gamecube, and now PS3 vs XBox 360 (sorry Wii doesn't qualify in my opinion). For the old-school gamers, does anybody remember Mortal Kombat on Sega Game Gear? Long live the 90s!

sega genesis had 16 bit music and

snes had a capacity for 24 bit to 32 bit music. sega MK2 themes are still better. the reason sega game music was better was because they had to try to make more entertaining rythms to make up for lower quality music capability.

Why was the version only limited to the genesis (beside genesis being a lump of pure awesome) if you hear the arcade version it's completely different

Really sega had not very good graphics in Mortal Kombat 2, but KICKED ASS in its music!! it gives the real terrifying theme of combat and battle!!

All other versions (Nentindo, Arcade, PC) sucked at music.......

MK3 was done by Sculptured Software (the guys who did the previous two games on the SNES), while MK1 and MK2 were done by Probe Software on the Genesis.

@porcorosso81 I wish he could've done more music for the series. He is the reason why I like MK1 & 2 for the Genesis better than the Arcade & SNES. The tunes were so much better. The Arcade & SNES music was either bad or dull. I only like the arcade in MK3. They seemed to put more effort in the music for that game.

This track represents what Sega did over the MK 1 and 2. The Genesis kill the Arcade and SNES in music and this track right here tells us. The Arcade and SNES choose your destiny, character, and Tomb track sucks big time!!!

Not Sega did, but Matt Furniss, who seems to have a great grip on the FM sound hardware. Any other composer could have screwed that up pretty badly.
