The piano part was played by the Drummer they spliced that part on the end and then Duane and Eric soloed on top of it ...there is also a Clapton Slide part on the end ...mixed low ....I have spoke to Bobby Whitlock about this ..and Tom Dowd ...Duane did his part in 2 maybe 3 takes and there were tears in the control room ...it was that good ...what i wouldnt give to have been a fly on the wall ...

it was actually written by eric clapton and jim gordon. mainly clapton, but the piano parts were written by jim gordon. clapton overheard gordon playing it and asked to put it onto layla to beef it out, making it the epic it is today.
