What a find! I have been searching online for anything by the original Van-Dells lineup that included Steve Ricks, an incredible bass AND lead singer with charisma to spare. I assume this recording had the blond guy nicknamed Spider, also? I still have the great Myron & the Van Dells Live LP, transferred to CD with recordings from later Van Dells albums. My family would see them when when I was a kid at the Beverly Hill Supper Club, later @ Old Coney including after Steve left. Great post!
Your Dad blows the Marcels out of the water with the flip side, Heartaches. After hearing the bass in Heartaches by him, well, enough said? Is he still performing today? Is the group still around?
@tjr0806 What a great doo-wop number! I remember this from senior year! We would all cut school after lunch, go to the beach, get a an older kid or a bum to buy us a case of beer, or take the elevated to the ball park and sneak in.
Not long after, the war in Vietnam started, and a lot of us had to go in the service. The Vietnam was really a watershed, and it meant the end of a way of life we took for granted.
G-d help the young people now, where can they work?
Good cover.
