Well who do we vote for if not the three stooges who already exist?
We are a rich country but the richess lie in a very few hands. It is only legislation which can change that. I'm not talking about a good businessman being dispossessed because he's made a million or three. I'm talking about billionaires who play roulette with commodities and currencies. These fuckers add zero to the wealth of any nation.
UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s forebears have a long history in financial racketeering. These comments remind me that as, in the 1930's in Germany and Spain, those on the left just shoot themselves in the foot and fight amongst each other. Well, lets say instead "Those days are over" and unite against the actual foe. This stuff is serious... so lets stop bitching and start acting.
This is a guy who uses terms like "neoliberal capitalism" despite the fact that we aren't a market liberal society and when we have State-created and subsidised corporations and conglomerates.
yep thats the point he is making. Allow the Banks their capitalist right. Let them die and be replaced by something better instead of bailing them out. Put that in your thesauraus
@VanDoodah naive. state machinery is used as a legitimating force for markets and "private firms" (as if there can be any serious dichotomy between public and private, government and corporation, politics and economy)? The recent bailout in america is fine example of how states subsidize private firms. All this talk about market "darwinism" (let them fail and be replaced, genuine market competition and self-regulation) is completely utopian and ideological.
@VanDoodah markets, firms, will always rely on powerful legal bodies to ensure certain "rights" be stacked in their favour: property laws, taxation, copyright, inter or intra state coercion and military might, etc. This is the historical reality; claims to "laissez faire" are mystifications.
"A collective struggle against the capitalist machine"...............In other words a demo by a load of public school drop outs in dreadlocks wearing Che t shirts.I bet "The capitalist machine" is shitting itself!
Sounds like you need to work harder at getting a better education. "middle class public school arsehole" is a betrayal of your own knee-jerk discrimination. He won a scholarship don'tcha know.. a feat that clearly eluded you.
You may as well have said "Thinking is for idiots" or perhaps "I don't know what to think, but i don't like change or being told things i wasn't aware of, especially by someone who is distinguishable from myself either by race, ethnicity, religion, 'class', or wealth"
So he won a scholarship? He"s still a middle class, public school arsehole. All he does is talk smugly to fellow Guardian/Independent readers in their own little comfort zone.
Well, i didn't agree with you at first, but I must say with such an eloquent, well constructed, sensible and fair argument, how can anyone disagree? ..I think we could all learn a lot from your style of conversation and persuasion. You've outfoxed me for one, and i'm sure everyone else, with your meticulous research and impartiality. You should consider working for the UN or Amnesty, otherwise all that knowledge, compassion and wisdom is wasted. Be our working class hero...please!
I doubt very much if Mark Thomas is interested in armed insurrection - he's got about him that that...
Mark is bloody dangerous to the government because he's not thick, and he's very good at getting under their skin and exposing what they're up to. It's a shame he won't seriously consider staning for election - I and many others would love to see him in parliament where a man of his passion might be able to make a bit of noise and shake things up a tad...
I use to say you can either change the economic and political system by REVOLUTION or REFORMATION, but seeing how the corrupt few in power are using law-enforcement against the people all in the name of "PROFIT," trying to REFORM the system internally can never work!
THE SYSTEM NEED A REVOLUTION, AND IT NEEDS TO START WITH THE PEOPLE WHO HAS ARMS. THEY MAY BE BRANDED TERRORISTS, BUT THAT APPEARS TO BE THE ONLY WAY IF CHANGE IS TO OCCUR!
At the end all you get is guys willing to use guns wanting payback for removing thecriminals. Russia? Also you dont recognise the massive impact people are having on companies supporting the war mongers. Viola for instance has lost over 7 billion in contracts due to protesters. Direct action by all means. EDO Ratheon, catterpillar, British Areo Space and Carmel Agrexco have all lost millions. protesters who caused millions in damage are being let off as they were all acting to up hold the law.
right is right wrong is wrong... work it out.. I cant believe the crap posts i'm reading. Jacqui Smith needs to go buy some heavy duty soap that reaches the parts no soap ever did. The rest of sponging arseholes can go fuck themselves.
I agre with the capitalist ideology that small govt and survival of the fittest. IE dont bail them out and let them go bust. THat will make them better. IF factory workers lose their job so should the latte drinking bankers
true, if a business is failing, do not artificially resuscitate it, let them go whether they are bankers or factories; whe a business fails, someone will fill the vacuum with better ideas
If Mark Thomas is so 'right-on' and a supporter of freedom, why did he do a demolition job on Michael Meacher MP, the only 'new labour' senior figure to speak out against 911 and US imperialism.
And Tony Robinson used to advertise The Sun. So much for these advocates on democracy; follow them you idiot sheep. Baaaaaaa ....
When i want a lecture on morals from a middle class public school boy like Mark Thomas I"ll ask.Why are all the people on here jumping to the defence of terrorist suspects .Lock the scumbags up!
Mark gave the best speech at the rally (when does he ever fail in that respect), but what he said about "building a movement" towards the end, whilst right, reeks of deja vu.
How often have we heard this? Which movement? A democratic party? Which exact goals? When? Who?
No harm to Mark, because I have all the respect in the world for the man, but we've been talking about "building a movement" forever. Someone capable has to step up to the mark and it has to be under ONE banner.
It's quite sad really. People have been fighting things like this for probably centuries and still nothing much seems to change. Sometimes I wonder if it's even worth caring about.
Probably because not enough people believe that a movement needs to be started. People complain about democracy and/or capitalism, yet these two institutions have done more to improve the lot of the common man than anything else in history. Sure there's problems and sometimes greedy/power hungry people who abuse the system, but throwing it all out isn't the answer.
Socialized systems don't work b/c too many people choose welfare..and the sane worker won't support deadbeats..
this institution has done nothing but dumb down nations to carry out its agenda which does not include freedom i concure the rule of yhe jungle bush senior spoke about in his famous speech well the animals are free no one charges them rent no one puts a charge on their drinking water etc etc the list is endless if the institution i npower now was working well why would we have so much povity in the world only a few have huge wealth and many live in povity
The human mind & spirit is capable of imagining perfection, the human body will never acheive it. That is our lot in life. There will always be those who suffer, either because someone wants power over them or because their parents/community made some poor decisions. We can reduce this over time, but the solution isn't to simply feed and clothe them. We can educate them to a better life but 1) they have to accept us and the change we can provide into their lives and 2) they have to want it
immediately i can see you are speaking from a viewpoint that holds power over another human being we do not have power over another human being we do not need to give anyone aid or help in as much that is comming from a i am better than them attitude we need to let people realise their own power and in turn let them live in a free world if we live along side eac other compassionately then we do not need to be governed and i disagree i think we can obtain perfection in this life
TEN STEPS TO CLOSE DOWN AN OPEN SOCIETY - Naomi Wolf: 1. INVOKE A TERRIFYING INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ENEMY 2. CREATE A GULAG 3. DEVELOP A THUG CASTE 4. SET UP AN INTERNAL SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM 5. HARASS CITIZENS' GROUPS 6. ENGAGE IN ARBITRARY DETENTION AND RELEASE 7. TARGET KEY INDIVIDUALS 8. CONTROL THE PRESS 9. DISSENT EQUALS TREASON 10. SUSPEND THE RULE OF LAW
The summer of rage is already well under way - let's hope that the power that has brought innumerable flashmob conspirators together for a laugh, e.g. to worship local buskers in our towns etc, also works to co-ordinate getting people onto the streets in massive numbers to protest against these hypocritical greedmeisters. God bless the net.
he summer of rage is a term that the police came up with to put into the media the concept of trouble at protests. They then came in and attacked people at the g20 protests without provocation. They have no right to detain protesters and to baton them. Facists. I agree with your sentiment though. Lets bring it on this summer.
Fourmanfilms. Why are you so upset about this? I am more upset about the renditioning and torture of people like Benyam Mohammed. Can you not see that these skirmishes and murders like that of Tomlinson are designed to take pressure of attrocities and torture policies? Also, keep the pressure on Fred Goodwin. Can you not see that by concentrating on these issues, the bosses will get away with crimes against humanity?
Exactly. The Police have been the only ones talking violence to try and deter peole from taking to the streets. When you do protests they beat you up, push you around and trap you in a cordon for 8 hours. Why? So you dont turn up to the next protest and these important issues are not dealt with. .
Thanks, Fourman. I think the torture and rendition accusations must be dealt with. Can there be a more serious issue than this? It is very important that people demonstrate too. Remember that for each demonstrator, there are probably 100 others who support them. They are very brave people who deserve our praise and admiration.
Absolutely. THe people responsible for torture and rendition and the illegal iraq war all belong in prison. see my front page of my chanel for Naoimi Wolf's 10 steps to destroy free society. One of them is create a thug class. That is what the police are doing to protesters. Also the BBC has ignored their numbers misreporting them. I had my complaint to them upheld and you will notice that the BBC helicopter now turns up to protests because I emailed the worlds press about this bias.
I've heard they done a lot to provoce otherwise peaceful protests. Though I haven't come across that in any news article yet. I have the Hackney Gazette open as I type this. I'll have a look and see if anything about this is in there.
Problem is, protestors of late have often gone on to bigger and better things, like disrupting traffic and commerce or harming the throughfare to small businesses. It gets even worse when no one is listening. So now protestors resort to acts on the fringe of terrorism to be heard. If protestors police themselves, the goverment won't have to. Keep it responsible so that the police cannot distract people from the message..
Time to get to know your MP. Write to them turn up to their meetings and get your point across. If you are not being listened to then heckle them and take action in any way you can. Also why not run as an MP. You would only need about 4 policies like banning MP's Expenses, stopping the war and spending the bankers bailout on the taxpayers instead of the ultra rich like the labour government has done. Oh and Vote. Turn out in the UK is only about 30%. THat is why we are being robbed.
Let's all face facts. There has never been true socialism and there has never been true free market capitalism. However there has always been a large divide between the haves and have not AND the majority of the worlds wealth is in the hands of a minority. That is a FACT!
I concur. This lot gets wrapped up in terminology and radical changes which do little but embarras themselves and prevent meaningful dialogue.
Some of the "haves" got it by stealing it and "bending the laws". Until this behavior is stopped and criminals punished, no form of goverment will prevent this continued abuse. Clever speeches, berating officials and invoking Godwin's Law will get them nowhere...
i fucking hate a question of sport, sue barker gets on my tits. what is baldrick doing in hyde park? i can understand mark thomas being there seeing as he was never funny when he tried comedy
i think he is making sense mate at least the people are comming together we dont need a leading goverment we the people need to be collectivly in control of our needs in this world
Tyranny is tyranny whether in the name of socialism or capitalism. Democracy in place of parliament. Freedom instead of wage slavery. Technology and education in place of ignorance. It's time for a change.
The Free market is a GOOD thing, but like everything else iin this world, regulation is needed because Humans are imperfect. ANYTHING can be abused, including the free market.
When the rich are STOPPED from stealing from the poor, EVERYONE makes money,in the long run. Getting rid of the free market is a very very BAD idea. Preventing that free market from literally STEALING from the poor by sending their jobs away and designing evil loan agreements that fool their customers, is a better idea.
Thank you, finally some sense. Why can't these people realize that criminals have temporarily corrupted a good system and that we need to punish them, and deter those who would follow suit, in order to get things back on track. Without markets, most of these corporations wouldn't exist and innovation would be slowed to a trickle. Unless, of course, you want to turn back the clock to pre industrial revolution. I bet most of these whining liberals would make decent estate peasants...
firstly you were talking about ethnic cleansing depopulation if you wanna talk about simpletons only a simpleton thinks this planet is over populated common sense tells us its not they cant fool us with that argument anymore coz we are waking up mate and your awakening is on its way you cant avoid it so until then mate enjoy it its like seeing the world through new eyes :)
see my post above. essentially, humans are animals and living things. All animals and all living things on this planet must compete for limited resources. If you think humans have a right to keep multiplying w/o responsibility, you are a selfish idiot who doesn't have a clue. You are what is taxing society, not goverments. Christ, you guys sound like you are all cult members, and possess little beyond a secondary education. Pamplets and protests do not make you intelliegent nor relevant.
um...no..they don't. They annoy us when you feel you don't get enough air time...some people feel that a freedom of speech = everyone must listen to you when you talk and everyone gets their turn. <8,000 hits in 2 weeks means just that.
If only something helpful was said...or something meaningful proposed. Alas....reduced to the realm of the raving lunatics.
It is refreshing to see Protests of the "Banksters" but it's confusing to me to see someone "hating on "free markets". Free markets did NOT do this..... the GOVERNMENT interventions in the hands with the "World Banks" did this. This has nothing to do with "REAL free markets". Strange. To say you want Liberty in one hand and then Down with Free markets... What solution do you want?
Liberty Cafe show, Free market is not liberty for the poor or those without capital, which happens to be the majority of us. Loans and Credit as capital is not liberty either, you are slave to repaying your credit on interests. The freemarket is not actually free and it is defo not democracy. 2/3 of the world lives in poverty because of THE MARKET, because today, the market RULES everything, if it didn't, then why the "strange" domino effect of the financial crisis on everyone gobally.
Domino effect is because everybody was relying on future earnings and borrowing too much so they could keep up with the Jones. We must punish the greedy executives who lied to improve their shares, but we must also accept responsibility for having too much debt, both as individuals and as govts. The irony is, if US cancelled welfare and medicare, the debt would dissappear. Socialist ideals = too heavy a burden; in trying to save everyone we will fail to move foward as a species
An amuzing, is useless retort. People who were responsible with there money and did not buy a home outside their means are doing OK. Like it or not, a majority of job loss for the "working class" has more to do with technological advancements and third world countries coming to the forefront and taking those jobs. Blaming the financial sector is useless...their problems are their own, criminal as they may be, but people with debt issues are more often those that borrowed outside their means.
you are thinking singulary that time has gone mate people are waking up they are thinking collectivly for example what ever happens to you has a direct effect om me people cannot sit by anymore and watch millions starve and go without people will not accept the theory it is beyond our control gone are the days for governing institutions that are completely corrupt and serve a few all are equal and all will be provided for and we the people will see to that
These institution serve millions..tens of millions...successfully every day. Some people are sore losers and think that everyone deserves to win...making the race pointless. Our freedoms and rights entitle us to many things, but they do not guarantee a free pass for eveything in life.
its obvious the institutions you are speaking about are not successful the corrupt governing institutions are serving only a few successfuly it is eilitist otherwise there would be no hunger no povity shelter warmth and food are fundimental we should all have these things we have no freedoms we live in a dictatotship which looks after the rich you have nazi views
bla bla bla the droneing on of a self rightious twat who when cant win the argument coz one knows he is talking shite and one knows he is :) hits below the belt trying to intimidate by attacking ones education well how about you get some common fuc*ing sense mate and do us all a favour
Actually, Godwin's Law applies here...you guys didn't even get 100 comments in before nazi/hitler comments come in to play. That is not only the first below the belt hit...but also completely useless for normal and productive dialogue.
i agree it makes for pointless argument and when all is lost insult there are many who are clutching onto things they do not own and others are scared of change
children are starving and dieing every day in huge numbers you are privalidged to live relitivly comfortably ( i imagine ) but what about those who have nothing ? what of those who face a daily struggle a fight for survival ? does your heart not go out to them ?
you view point to me is very limited you are putting limitations on things you cannot fully understand because i think people fear what they do not undersand tand and have to make some sense of it in their own minds and this is by no means an attack just my point of veiw for i cannot say i understand more or less than you peace
As an individual I am compassionate but I think the answer to the worlds hunger/disease problems will require we step outside our human shells to find a solution. Its either that, or we wait until technology catches up with our humanity. Compassion is admirable, but increasing evidence shows that mission trips to places like Africa have only resulted in creating the next (and much larger) generation of starving people. If our effort to be kind we have inflcted cruelty on a much larger scale
I'm not saying that we need to stop, but I am suggesting that we need to rethink the tactics...and we must also accept the fact that not everyone can be saved or wants to be saved. There may be a time when technology has advanced where we can feed everyone and cure most all diseases and genetic disorders, but until that day comes I propose we minimize the suffering by limiting the socities we sustain but that do not progress....we are only creating more suffering that way..
but the whole point is this we need to save ourselves there is a lot of corruption in these missionary aids and charrities all the time i am in a i can save you mode i cannot help anyone but when i switch to compassion i come at that prob from a completely diffrerent angle only then can i assist anyone who wants my help but i cannot save them they have to save themselves its within their own power but as i love my fellow man i will do all that i can to serve them humanity
i really dont think we need techno to sort the world povity our coz if you think about it if it is poss for one person to have trillions of what ever currancy then it is equally poss for that money to be shared out amongst millions its easy its not difficult to feed the world we just have to change the way we think
the thing is, where does it say Mark Thomas does some stand-up? this is Mark Thomas talking to people about a protest, not Mark Thomas doing a comedy routine. Have you seen him live in the last few years?
i enjoy comedy so the last thing i'd do is go and see mark thomas live. i guess its a matter of opinion though. my screen name isn't designed to be funny (like mark thomas).
Stalin Hitler The British Empire the USA Empire Japan Indonesia Etc Etc all killed indiscrimately. They all represented a pretence they folowed certain moral clarity and superiority whilst not being who they puported to be. Just like the current Labour Govt pretends to represent the working class people and it is in fact ripping off the taxpayers and sending them to unwanted wars. True Socialism has never existed only on paper.
Meanwhile, people with free healthcare in third world countries spit out children like they are going out of style. Murder sucks and so does ethnic cleansing, but I shudder to think what global population would be if the plague, wars and govt hadn't cleaned out a bunch over the years. True socialsm can't exist until humans accept they are animals and that we must obey the bell curve and lose the lagging strand..
What a simpleton response. Just because I'm not a bleeding heart liberal who thinks we can save everybody I am therefore a support of hitler and nazi regimes. You know, there is a middle ground. Once where humans work hard to be a species that doesn't burden the planet and destroy everything in its path for its own ends. It will take responsible behavior in many areas..the solution isn't simply feed, house and clothe everyone. Its that kind of thinking that has put our govts in so much debt
xenor69 You are a right wing idiot we do need to cloth and feed everyone. There is no way a in democracy people would a society where people live in poverty you have no compassion. You are not the middle ground you are the extremea.
No, I am a doctor, and by extension a scientist. The compassionate and ethical side of me says do no wrong, and I treat everyone in front of me. The scientist in me is fully aware of the laws of nature and the continual struggle for limited resources. Humans have to keep themselves in check because nothing else will. Whether you belive that god gave us brains or evolution, it doesn't really matter. The point is we're supposed to use them. Obviously...you miss the point..
our resorces are not limited thats an illusion propaganda by the eilitest there is enough for everyone the world is not over populated i think it is you that has missed the point
xenor69 "The scientist in me is fully aware of the laws of nature and the continual struggle for limited resources" That is nazi logic let the weak die surivival of the fittest it is a sick twisted nazi version of darwin
jeffmagic32 is right, Stalin definately killed more than Hitler. And zzxzqwq, socialism is not the answer, its just one step towards communism. Do you really want your whole life controlled by the government?
Agreed But u think we have REAL freedom now i'd rather the country/gov be in control that internation greedy bankers as they do today now we have plutogracy heard what an ancient Athenian said in every society you shall have social justice or u will end up with a barbaric society socialism or barbarism
No Hitler killed more than Stalin Stalin killed 20 million Hitler killed 40 million. Plus the japs killed about 40 million the kaiser pre communist chinese and British empire milled millions to so did the french, americans. Infact capitlalism still adds up to more deaths in the last century than the just under 100 million by commies.. You may not lie that its the truth i am not commie but is the truth.
FDR kept us out of the war for quite a while, only when the US was attacked was he forced to starting fighting the nazis and Japanese imperialists. You want a real hero? Conservative Winston Churchill - he saw the danger while the pacifist liberals were waving the white flag and letting Hitler do as he pleased.
And he slowed down the recovery from a government caused depression with still bigger and more wasteful government.
No he did not there was no recovery until FDR became president,. the USA economy declined from 1929 - 33 the economy only started recovering when FDR became president. So on what logic did he slow down the economy there was none before he took over. Chamberlin was tory not a liberal.
As im still a GCSE student, cna someone please explain to what all this is about, and why people are hating against Gordan Brown. Isnt the meeting today and tommorow supposed to be solving the issue?
How ingenious of the political and economic elite to convince people like this that we're in this problem because of lassaiz-fair capitalism. It's just the opposite. Government has gotten far too involved by running down the value of currency because it is no longer on the gold standard. If you know anything about true classical liberalism, it is the maximization of individual liberty with the least possible amount of government, including no government at all.
Oh lordy, another Gold Standard nut. Why not the diamond standard, or the rare spices standard? Things have value only because we perceive them to have it. The fault lies in idiots paying too much for the stock in company XYZ and for allowing salaries of CxOs to get way out of hand. If the industries regulated themselves properly, we wouldn't need government, but when corporations have become larger/own more capital than 1/2 the worlds countries.well then I'm afraid only large govt can fight
Gold has a value based on supply and demand. There is little supply, and a lot of demand. With paper currency, supply is unlimited, and demand is not. And whatever the government does to regulate anything means you will inevitably have less freedom. Even if it's a freedom you don't see or will be willing to give up anyways, government sees that as an opportunity to take more. The free market is the only solution to solve any economic problem.
i dont see a problem with that we should all have enough money aint working its a controll system free the resorces lets have free energy etc they have the techno why are we not able to live in equality we all have enough we live in an insaine world where the eilite have set us up but the viel is lifting our eyes are being opened
This guy is a ranting idiot. I can't believe that people think that capitalism is the problem - it's precisely the lack of capitalism that's the cause of all of this mess. The banks are subsidised companies, not capitalist ones. These socialists are completely off track and to be honest, quite scary.
A mixed socialist society where the rich are taxed to pay for public services and where corporations do not take us to illegal wars. Perhaps Everyone should admire Dick Cheney to steal; billions of pounds from US tax payers ah yes that is freedom.
It was not overactive government it was an abusive private sector that failed the people. A big government worked under FDR in defeating Hitler and the Japs. It would work in todays world.
Capitalist states have killed too. Look at the Bengal famine of the 18th century under the east india company where 18 million died. Did you got to university?
yes I did. Many governments have killed. But in the 20th century, communism in practice killed many more people than any other force, including all the great wars. Governments are best at killing, so lets try to keep them as small as possible,
No the Japan ans Nazis killed more than the commies so did the brithish empire you did not leaen about that in history. Infact capitalist governments killed even more than the commies.
you are way off friend. You forget about the number of their own citizens that communist governments have killed. Stalin and Mao both killed well over 40 million people. Some put Mao's death toll close to 60 million. Hitler, evil Nazi that he was, only managed to kill about 20 million people. The imperial Japanese killed far fewer.
The germans nazis killed 40 million, the japs killed 40 million, and the kaiser killed millions so did the Pre communist chinese and British empire milled millions to so did the french, americans. Infact capitlalism still adds up to more deaths in the last century than the just under 100 million by commies.. You may not lie that its the truth i am not commie but is the truth. The imperial japs killed tens of million where do you get your figures
We all know about Stalin and Chairman Mao you talk about it, like it is some hidden history. Who on earth had not heard of their murders. The reality is the hidden tyrants are the german kaiser, the japanese emperor, the empiresof britain france, holland and the USA, the p[re commie chinese the russian empire which added up killed more than the commies look it up. Use you common sense.
communism is a fairly new system. It has only had aprx 100 years to kill. If we go back to the beginning of time, other systems surely have killed more that communism has. But to compare the last century, Communism has killed more than all the major wars put together, including all the killing done by the Nazis and the Imperial Japanese.
But Jeffmagic, the communism you speak of, is not the communism MArx intended. Read MArx' manifesto, killing was not in it. It was about justice and freeing the workers and labourers. Do you enjoy slaving to the corporations?
I have read it. It calls for violent overthrow of the capitalist system. The whole theme of the thing is conflict. As for me, I rarely work directly for a big corporation, but when I do its not a problem. Some of the nicer folks I have met work for some pretty big companies. I certainly prefer dealing with them compared to the tax man or the fat lady down at the DMV.

@VanDoodah markets, firms, will always rely on powerful legal bodies to ensure certain "rights" be stacked in their favour: property laws, taxation, copyright, inter or intra state coercion and military might, etc. This is the historical reality; claims to "laissez faire" are mystifications.

Sign,
I doubt very much if Mark Thomas is interested in armed insurrection - he's got about him that that...

Someone capable has to step up to the mark and it has to be under ONE banner.
samsonlovesyou 2 years ago
It's quite sad really. People have been fighting things like this for probably centuries and still nothing much seems to change. Sometimes I wonder if it's even worth caring about.
Chriscom28 2 years ago

We can educate them to a better life but 1) they have to accept us and the change we can provide into their lives and 2) they have to want it
xenor69 2 years ago
immediately i can see you are speaking from a viewpoint that holds power over another human being we do not have power over another human being we do not need to give anyone aid or help in as much that is comming from a i am better than them attitude we need to let people realise their own power and in turn let them live in a free world if we live along side eac other compassionately then we do not need to be governed and i disagree i think we can obtain perfection in this life

God bless the net.
sPoNdOoLa 2 years ago
he summer of rage is a term that the police came up with to put into the media the concept of trouble at protests. They then came in and attacked people at the g20 protests without provocation. They have no right to detain protesters and to baton them. Facists. I agree with your sentiment though. Lets bring it on this summer.
fourmanfilms 2 years ago
Fourmanfilms. Why are you so upset about this? I am more upset about the renditioning and torture of people like Benyam Mohammed. Can you not see that these skirmishes and murders like that of Tomlinson are designed to take pressure of attrocities and torture policies? Also, keep the pressure on Fred Goodwin. Can you not see that by concentrating on these issues, the bosses will get away with crimes against humanity?
swanningaround 2 years ago
Exactly. The Police have been the only ones talking violence to try and deter peole from taking to the streets. When you do protests they beat you up, push you around and trap you in a cordon for 8 hours. Why? So you dont turn up to the next protest and these important issues are not dealt with. .
fourmanfilms 2 years ago
Thanks, Fourman. I think the torture and rendition accusations must be dealt with. Can there be a more serious issue than this? It is very important that people demonstrate too. Remember that for each demonstrator, there are probably 100 others who support them. They are very brave people who deserve our praise and admiration.
swanningaround 2 years ago
I had my complaint to them upheld and you will notice that the BBC helicopter now turns up to protests because I emailed the worlds press about this bias.
fourmanfilms 2 years ago
I've heard they done a lot to provoce otherwise peaceful protests. Though I haven't come across that in any news article yet. I have the Hackney Gazette open as I type this. I'll have a look and see if anything about this is in there.
Chriscom28 2 years ago
Problem is, protestors of late have often gone on to bigger and better things, like disrupting traffic and commerce or harming the throughfare to small businesses. It gets even worse when no one is listening. So now protestors resort to acts on the fringe of terrorism to be heard. If protestors police themselves, the goverment won't have to. Keep it responsible so that the police cannot distract people from the message..
xenor69 2 years ago
im angry too. mark thomas should take a little of Einstiens advice... ' dont try and solve a problem using the same thinking that created it'....

Badassbab 2 years ago

Preventing that free market from literally STEALING from the poor by sending their jobs away and designing evil loan agreements that fool their customers, is a better idea.
pizzacrime 2 years ago
Thank you, finally some sense. Why can't these people realize that criminals have temporarily corrupted a good system and that we need to punish them, and deter those who would follow suit, in order to get things back on track. Without markets, most of these corporations wouldn't exist and innovation would be slowed to a trickle. Unless, of course, you want to turn back the clock to pre industrial revolution. I bet most of these whining liberals would make decent estate peasants...

LibertyCafeShow 2 years ago
Liberty Cafe show, Free market is not liberty for the poor or those without capital, which happens to be the majority of us. Loans and Credit as capital is not liberty either, you are slave to repaying your credit on interests. The freemarket is not actually free and it is defo not democracy. 2/3 of the world lives in poverty because of THE MARKET, because today, the market RULES everything, if it didn't, then why the "strange" domino effect of the financial crisis on everyone gobally.
RedApplonia 2 years ago
Domino effect is because everybody was relying on future earnings and borrowing too much so they could keep up with the Jones. We must punish the greedy executives who lied to improve their shares, but we must also accept responsibility for having too much debt, both as individuals and as govts. The irony is, if US cancelled welfare and medicare, the debt would dissappear. Socialist ideals = too heavy a burden; in trying to save everyone we will fail to move foward as a species
xenor69 2 years ago
rubbish
curvygirl1123 2 years ago
An amuzing, is useless retort. People who were responsible with there money and did not buy a home outside their means are doing OK. Like it or not, a majority of job loss for the "working class" has more to do with technological advancements and third world countries coming to the forefront and taking those jobs. Blaming the financial sector is useless...their problems are their own, criminal as they may be, but people with debt issues are more often those that borrowed outside their means.

curvygirl1123 2 years ago
As an individual I am compassionate but I think the answer to the worlds hunger/disease problems will require we step outside our human shells to find a solution. Its either that, or we wait until technology catches up with our humanity. Compassion is admirable, but increasing evidence shows that mission trips to places like Africa have only resulted in creating the next (and much larger) generation of starving people. If our effort to be kind we have inflcted cruelty on a much larger scale
xenor69 2 years ago
I'm not saying that we need to stop, but I am suggesting that we need to rethink the tactics...and we must also accept the fact that not everyone can be saved or wants to be saved. There may be a time when technology has advanced where we can feed everyone and cure most all diseases and genetic disorders, but until that day comes I propose we minimize the suffering by limiting the socities we sustain but that do not progress....we are only creating more suffering that way..
xenor69 2 years ago
but the whole point is this we need to save ourselves there is a lot of corruption in these missionary aids and charrities all the time i am in a i can save you mode i cannot help anyone but when i switch to compassion i come at that prob from a completely diffrerent angle only then can i assist anyone who wants my help but i cannot save them they have to save themselves its within their own power but as i love my fellow man i will do all that i can to serve them humanity

And he slowed down the recovery from a government caused depression with still bigger and more wasteful government.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago 2
No he did not there was no recovery until FDR became president,. the USA economy declined from 1929 - 33 the economy only started recovering when FDR became president. So on what logic did he slow down the economy there was none before he took over. Chamberlin was tory not a liberal.

The free market is the only solution to solve any economic problem.

no money is a control system and your solution serves only a few

Then let's just go back to the good old barter days.

This guy is a ranting idiot. I can't believe that people think that capitalism is the problem - it's precisely the lack of capitalism that's the cause of all of this mess. The banks are subsidised companies, not capitalist ones. These socialists are completely off track and to be honest, quite scary.
greegomileego 2 years ago
what are these people in favor of? They hate capitalism and freedom, so what do they want?
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
A mixed socialist society where the rich are taxed to pay for public services and where corporations do not take us to illegal wars. Perhaps Everyone should admire Dick Cheney to steal; billions of pounds from US tax payers ah yes that is freedom.

so you combat an overactive government by making the government bigger? How is that supposed to work?
jeffmagic32 2 years ago 3
It was not overactive government it was an abusive private sector that failed the people. A big government worked under FDR in defeating Hitler and the Japs. It would work in todays world.

Democide - death by state. Look it up. I'm sure your Marxist professors never mentioned it in class.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
Capitalist states have killed too. Look at the Bengal famine of the 18th century under the east india company where 18 million died. Did you got to university?
zzxzqwq 2 years ago
yes I did. Many governments have killed. But in the 20th century, communism in practice killed many more people than any other force, including all the great wars. Governments are best at killing, so lets try to keep them as small as possible,
jeffmagic32 2 years ago 2
No the Japan ans Nazis killed more than the commies so did the brithish empire you did not leaen about that in history. Infact capitalist governments killed even more than the commies.
zzxzqwq 2 years ago
you are way off friend. You forget about the number of their own citizens that communist governments have killed. Stalin and Mao both killed well over 40 million people. Some put Mao's death toll close to 60 million. Hitler, evil Nazi that he was, only managed to kill about 20 million people. The imperial Japanese killed far fewer.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago 2
The germans nazis killed 40 million, the japs killed 40 million, and the kaiser killed millions so did the Pre communist chinese and British empire milled millions to so did the french, americans. Infact capitlalism still adds up to more deaths in the last century than the just under 100 million by commies.. You may not lie that its the truth i am not commie but is the truth. The imperial japs killed tens of million where do you get your figures
zzxzqwq 2 years ago
you are just making up numbers.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
We all know about Stalin and Chairman Mao you talk about it, like it is some hidden history. Who on earth had not heard of their murders. The reality is the hidden tyrants are the german kaiser, the japanese emperor, the empiresof britain france, holland and the USA, the p[re commie chinese the russian empire which added up killed more than the commies look it up. Use you common sense.

communism is a fairly new system. It has only had aprx 100 years to kill. If we go back to the beginning of time, other systems surely have killed more that communism has. But to compare the last century, Communism has killed more than all the major wars put together, including all the killing done by the Nazis and the Imperial Japanese.
jeffmagic32 2 years ago
But Jeffmagic, the communism you speak of, is not the communism MArx intended. Read MArx' manifesto, killing was not in it. It was about justice and freeing the workers and labourers. Do you enjoy slaving to the corporations?
RedApplonia 2 years ago
I have read it. It calls for violent overthrow of the capitalist system. The whole theme of the thing is conflict. As for me, I rarely work directly for a big corporation, but when I do its not a problem. Some of the nicer folks I have met work for some pretty big companies. I certainly prefer dealing with them compared to the tax man or the fat lady down at the DMV.
