Larry had either already arrived earlier, or arrived later. Look at scrapperadam's other video on the right called (RARE FOOTAGE OF THE THREE STOOGES). It shows all three Stooges together Moe, Larry and DeRita (Curly-Joe). Both videos are from the same event when the Stooges were in Toronto, Canada 1962/1963.

Nice comments from anacrobat89 and jnfrjuniper. I envy (in a kind manner of course) people who had the chance to meet those geniuses of comedy. Of course Curly (the best in my opinion) had died before this clip was shot, but one of the originals, Moe, was still there, standing and happy. I had the wrong impression he was an angry person in private life, but now I re-discovered them through these kind of short, familiar films. Thanks for the post. The person in the gorilla custume wasn't curley; unfortunately he had a stroke in 1946 and remained ill for six years, having additional strokes and passed away in 1952 at the age of 49.

Somewhere there is a video floating around of a Mike Douglas Show showing Moe Howard as a guest or a co-host with Mike Douglas out of Philadelphia. Moe as a gag actually hits his wife with a shaving cream pie too.

Joe Besser finished the last two shorts after Shemp died, in the cab, lighting the cigar, not Curly. then Curly Joe De Rita came in for the feature films. Emil Sitka was lined up to play the Larry role after Larry's stroke, but nothing ever got off the ground. Curly actually shot himself in the foot and that is how he got the stopping and pivoting on one foot. It hurt like hell. He died in 52 and shemp in 55. Larry died at the Motion Picture coun Swinging the Alphabet song was great.

Curly died young; he was 48 at the time of his passing and had been in ill health for about six years. Moe lived to be 77, Larry 72, Shemp 60, Joe Besser 80, Joe DeRita 83. Ted Healy, part of the original group passed away at age 41. Emil Sitka, who replaced Larry when the latter fell ill, was the last Stooge to die in 1998, at 83. Sitka never actually performed as a Stooge.

The guy in the gorilla suit couldn't possibly be Curly. He died in like 1955 or 57' way prior to this footage. Also, DeRita "Curly Joe" is standing next to Moe. Even Shemp had passed away by the time this clip was taken. Great footage though!

The guy in the gorilla suit is Norbert Kreisch in his act as Norbu The Almost Human Gorilla. He was an entertainer and circus performer for many years, retired now, and is my husband's cousin. His daughter is Noby Arden Kreisch, a Hollywood stuntwoman and performer.

That's true, but Sitka never performed with the Stooges. Moe died only a few months after Larry, who Sitka was to replace. The Stooges essentially were done when Moe passed away.

official reports were that Moe's health took a bad turn due to his lung cancer and all filming was stopped. Emil Sitka is offically billed as the seventh stooge thus there were 7 stooges total. When Moe died, he was the last of the Howard Brothers: (Curly/Shemp/Moe). Moe was also the businessman of the act and made all the business decisions. With the loss of Moe, the curtain finally fell for the last time on the Three Stooges

My grandfather worked at Columbia Pictures, took me and my bro to see em at CNE Grandstand. The gorilla was part of the act, maybe the opening act - I was 8, memory's dim - but the gorilla certainly entered the stands, accosted my grandmother. After, we went to their trailer behind the grandstand (I had sudden fear of Moe on the way), waited outside til they emerged 1 by 1. Stood and talked for a couple mins til their cab arrived, watched em drive off. Thanks!!

The Stooges families have a GREAT deal of home movie footage including some COLOR footage of the original Curly on the set of one of there films.

There is one DVD out called Three Stooges Home Movies and it does feature "some" of the home movies.

First it was Larry, Moe and Curly. Curly left and they got Shemp. Curly wasn't dead though, he does a cameo in one of the Shemp episodes. Shemp died and they finished some of his films with a stand-in (the Fake Shemp). Then they got Joe Besser. After Joe left they got Curly Joe Derita.

Sorry to report that the person in the gorilla costume was not Curly, it's possibly Larry but, not likely due to the Gorilla's agility. Joe DeRita, the heavy set, short haired man in the suit (Curly Joe) was accompanying Moe Howard. Curly Joe DeRita appeared only in the 1960's era Three Stooges full length movies,also in this clip Moe walks away with his wife Helen. Great piece of nostalgia!!! Thanks for sharing it!
