Larry had either already arrived earlier, or arrived later. Look at scrapperadam's other video on the right called (RARE FOOTAGE OF THE THREE STOOGES). It shows all three Stooges together Moe, Larry and DeRita (Curly-Joe). Both videos are from the same event when the Stooges were in Toronto, Canada 1962/1963.
@jsbeerman stop trolling he made his last appearance in 1947 in the episode the roaring lion or something like that and he died in 1952 because of the stroke he had in the 40s
Nice comments from anacrobat89 and jnfrjuniper. I envy (in a kind manner of course) people who had the chance to meet those geniuses of comedy. Of course Curly (the best in my opinion) had died before this clip was shot, but one of the originals, Moe, was still there, standing and happy. I had the wrong impression he was an angry person in private life, but now I re-discovered them through these kind of short, familiar films. Thanks a lot for sharing, and thanks for the information on the monkey
Thanks for the post. The person in the gorilla custume wasn't curley; unfortunately he had a stroke in 1946 and remained ill for six years, having additional strokes and passed away in 1952 at the age of 49.
@shunter9 No shit, about the clown shunter9. I thought that was either Pogo (John Wayne Gacey, or Pennywise from Stephen King's "It") Clowns are freaky anyway.
I didnt even think that they were still connected to comedy, clowns that is. I thought they were either serial killers or something from scarey dreams or ominous looking tattoos.
Somewhere there is a video floating around of a Mike Douglas Show showing Moe Howard as a guest or a co-host with Mike Douglas out of Philadelphia. Moe as a gag actually hits his wife with a shaving cream pie too.
Joe Besser finished the last two shorts after Shemp died, in the cab, lighting the cigar, not Curly. then Curly Joe De Rita came in for the feature films. Emil Sitka was lined up to play the Larry role after Larry's stroke, but nothing ever got off the ground. Curly actually shot himself in the foot and that is how he got the stopping and pivoting on one foot. It hurt like hell. He died in 52 and shemp in 55. Larry died at the Motion Picture coun Swinging the Alphabet song was great.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful film footage and what a great choice of music. This really brought tears to my eyes. I just know from my heart that all the Stooges loved their fans so much!
I grew up watching them all the time on tv and still love them all.
Tom Barrister Is correct, scrapper adam you are a very fortunate person for having the chance to meet them and to still have this amazing tape, also thats a great choice for a sang.
Larry the pudgy one died quite young 42, I believe. They say he was quite the ladies man and a drinker. He looked really dapper when he went out for a night on the town.
Curly died young; he was 48 at the time of his passing and had been in ill health for about six years. Moe lived to be 77, Larry 72, Shemp 60, Joe Besser 80, Joe DeRita 83. Ted Healy, part of the original group passed away at age 41. Emil Sitka, who replaced Larry when the latter fell ill, was the last Stooge to die in 1998, at 83. Sitka never actually performed as a Stooge.
@yugipro4eva Thank u for getting back to me on that. It is nice to receive a e-mail without vulgarity. Much appreciated. Have a nice day wherever u live, preferably a warm climate.
The guy in the gorilla suit couldn't possibly be Curly. He died in like 1955 or 57' way prior to this footage. Also, DeRita "Curly Joe" is standing next to Moe. Even Shemp had passed away by the time this clip was taken. Great footage though!
The guy in the gorilla suit is Norbert Kreisch in his act as Norbu The Almost Human Gorilla. He was an entertainer and circus performer for many years, retired now, and is my husband's cousin. His daughter is Noby Arden Kreisch, a Hollywood stuntwoman and performer.
I'd like to point out to the poster (who in his comments mentions that he believes that Curly is in the ape costume) that Curly died about a decade before you say this was filmed. Also, Curly-Joe can clearly be seen with Moe. Perhaps it's Larry in the costume, but I doubt it.
I think the ape and the clown are from a local children's tv show. Larry is not in a couple of these home movies from the 60's. Perhaps he was ill or something and didn't go on all the tour stops?
That's true, but Sitka never performed with the Stooges. Moe died only a few months after Larry, who Sitka was to replace. The Stooges essentially were done when Moe passed away.
i remember reading somewhere that emil started filming with moe and curly joe as a stooge but moe was turned off by emil getting a big head about being a stooge and stopped everything. guess he's kinda like what jimmy nichols was to the beatles :)
official reports were that Moe's health took a bad turn due to his lung cancer and all filming was stopped. Emil Sitka is offically billed as the seventh stooge thus there were 7 stooges total. When Moe died, he was the last of the Howard Brothers: (Curly/Shemp/Moe). Moe was also the businessman of the act and made all the business decisions. With the loss of Moe, the curtain finally fell for the last time on the Three Stooges
accually Sitka was going to be a replacement but Moe kept putting it off. then moe died 1975. Sitka was a main interview in the stooges documentary narriated by Steve Allen. emil sitka died in 1998. "Hold hands, you lovebirds" "Hold hands, you lovebirds" "Hold hands, you lovebirds" "Hold hands, you lovebirds" "Hold hands, you lovebirds" "Hold hands, you lovebirds" "Hold hands, you lovebirds" "Hold hands, you lovebirds"
My grandfather worked at Columbia Pictures, took me and my bro to see em at CNE Grandstand. The gorilla was part of the act, maybe the opening act - I was 8, memory's dim - but the gorilla certainly entered the stands, accosted my grandmother. After, we went to their trailer behind the grandstand (I had sudden fear of Moe on the way), waited outside til they emerged 1 by 1. Stood and talked for a couple mins til their cab arrived, watched em drive off. Thanks!!
This is so much fun to see - thanks for posting your family home-movie. It's amazing to see them clowning around the plane (the "ape" even going on top of it!) This was certainly in another day and age - can anyone imagine trying something like this at any major major airport today? Love the Stooges - I have an autograph from Joe Besser (not one of the Stooges here) that I cherish.

279 was right, they passed on long ago though as a 44-year old, it seemed like yesterday. The last link to the Stooges Emil Sitka died nine years ago.
