i have the option right now to buy a 06 gt with 50 000km, or a 03 mach 1 with 92 000. both in great shape. what would make the better car to buy? i feel the mach 1 cuz i wanna modify whatever one i get, and i feel the 4v would handle better and be safer to modify than the 3v.
thats a tough question. If you decide on the mach then make sure it is a 5 spd. I wish the Machs had a better interior though. The 05-up GTs win in that catagory hands down.
well i have, and will be selling, a 2000 gt. so im use to the mediocre interior, and i believe the mach 1 has slightly better interior anyway. such a tough decision. mach's are more rare, 4v, more power, lighter. just the 05+ gt has better interior and responds well to modifications...and are nicer lookin cars in my opinion.
@ACDC88 You have to do more to the s197s to get the look I like. with a mach tinted windows, a nice set of deep dish 18s and a lowering kit and possibly a blackout rear and i'm done as far as exterior. now the s197 I'd have to lower it and throw on a set of 20 inch bullits, take off the rear wing, put a 3 inch cowl hood, put a billit grill that deletes the horse and the fog lights, a chin spoiler, a solid black out for the back that deletes the (gt) symble, thats it other than painted mirrors.
@ACDC88 What was your choice? Honestly, I have my 03 gt and I'm having your exact thoughts now. I wanted a mach 1 at first, but either way... gt or not... the interior blows. Chassis wise i think the 05+ were better.
@grey03mach1 I really like the machs interior...the seats are the most comfortable stock mustang seats I've ever sat in and I've sat in quite a few. I love the way the gauges look...the silver around the gauges and stereo in the upgrade packages...the pedals and all that trim like a bullit...I think they're awesome and I'm going to get one...I think the mach is quicker than an 05-09 gt stock for stock both 5 speed w equal drivers...jmo. i like the 05 ups but they just look big and weigh alot
Stock vs Stock or bolt-ons vs bol-ons the mach is better but the 3v Gt will take boost better, the mach is aluminium block and can only hand bout 450hp saftley on stock bottom end.
Considering I owned this Mach 2-3 years ago, I now have 480hp 473tq 2003 Cobra. U better take that bullit go spend some more money. I recommend Forced Induction if you want to play with the grown ups.....

Very true. A 4V vs 3V should be a no brainer in the longer haul. I am disappointed they didn't make the new GTs DOHC straight up versus having to buy the Shelby 5.4 to get it. Its a limiting factor on a pretty decent modular. Considering my friends power band is further along than mine he should have won. Months later with my 475 Saleen I installed its pretty clear who will be where. Now if he added something like that I think the tide would turn once again...as long as he wasn't driving.
I don't see why it matters what car had what done to it. They were just messing around and running their cars a little bit. You guys take this stuff way too seriously. S197 GT's are not fast stock. They typically run low 14's.
I hate to break this to whom ever thought this was a valid run; however, I have already done this test myself. I have a 2006 stock GT and raced a Mach 1. I won. The air dam doesn't do much for the 2003 you guys. With the TCS on or off after several runs my vehicle kept winning.
Sorry kids a Mach 1 is not going to have a staggering lead if any lead at all. If anyone doubts this I'd be happy to show you if you are ever in the Twin Cities area.
syvrin, your friend with the Mach 1 needs a driver mod if he can't put a car on you. You are obviously a better driver in a slower car, it happens. A bone stock Hemi Ram ran a better time than my brother's GTO in the 1/8th, but he consistently 60 footed 2.3. Is the GTO faster? Yes, by a lot. Is the Ram driver better? ... I don't know, it is easy to get an automatic off the line.
You actually think a stock Mustang GT is going to keep up with a Mach 1 ? Not happening. I've never been beat by a 05+ gt. Hell the 99-04 gt's are faster than the new ones. they are turds.
Uh the 99-04's are not faster than the new ones... Unless your saying that having much less hp is good? New GT's have more at the wheels than an 99-04 GT has at the crank. 04 GT's only weigh 360 or so lbs. less which doesn't compensate for the 40 horse difference.
the 05+ gt's are turds. what im telling you is that ive had closer races with the 99-04. I leave the 05+ sitting. ( unless modded of course..in which they can slightly keep up)

well with 4.10's you would roast a stock 3v. Had you taken a 3v put 4.10s, tune, intake, and tires on it, it would roast a mach. Stock vs. stock yes the mach is faster but not by much it is a drivers race.

The mach is rated at 305-310 horse i believe. Yeah the mach and 05+ GT's both have 3.55. And the 4.10's i was replying to you talking about the guy with the mach having tune intake and 4.10's beating a 3v. So I was pointing out that a 3v with those would beat a 4v... But your 300 lbs. less and 5 more horse equal drivers mach wins but if you have a better driver in 05+ it'll win. The machs just not that much faster. Either way an LS1 would kill either of us unsuper'd :(
well ls1's dont kill me in stock form. I raced some stock vs stock and it was drivers race.. and in the gto's its a murder scene. they are hogs. Right now I can take a stock ls1 really easily. I have midpipe, intake, short throw, exhaust and xcal3 custom tune. Never dynod but I should be around 300 whp easily. the lt1 is nothing. gt's can hang with them stock vs stock. they are only fast out of the hole

btw it isnt an issue of the 99-04 being less hp. its who can plant it. um. the ls1 is a very strong powerfull engine.. but in the gto.. it blows dog nuts. i leave the things sitting. I dont care what hp the 05+gt has stock. its slow. and IMO slower than the 99-04 new edge. considering ive had more new edge gt's keep up than 05 gt's. man its like strapping a 300hp mustang engine in a semi truck and loading the trailer down and trying to race it. think of it that way. geez

mach 1 is way faster than 96 cobra way different engine i raced one in my 04 mach and raped it by about 8 cars before i had to slow down total different car mach's got 04 cobra heads and higher compression makes a big difference
You say its not a fair race becuase the mach is modified, but stock for stock the mach 1 still owns that gt, believe it or not my mom has one :) and its hard to keep on the road when you stick it, i have a decently modded 02 gt and the mach would more then likely waste it
seen that one coming before even watching the video. I am a chevy guy bigtime. I have raced my share of mach 1's. Those cars are strong and just as much power as the new 05 and up stangs, plus he had mods.

I own the Mach and was doing the driving in the video. 05-07 GT's do not fair well in stock form. I was racing a friend in the video and have also driven the car myself many times. There is no doubt the weight and torque management hurt the new GT's. They do ride and handle much better and the interiors blow away the 99-04 GT's. However, thats not what wins races...
and driving does make a differece, take 2 of the exact same cars, have 1 shift at the red line, have the other shift at the best rpm points, and driver 2 will win, its all math, red lining ur rpms is not the way to get the fastest acceleration out of your car
Who wouldve guessed that outcome. I am not a mustang fan, but I will have to say the new Mustangs have grown on me. Definitely awesome looking, which is more than I can say for the last few generations. No offense, just personal preference.
Some of these people don't know what they're saying. The newer mustangs (2005+) are definetly slower on account of their weight. Also, the Mach 1 has more horsepower and is lighter than the new gt, so saying that the new gt's are much faster is a load of bs. As for the new shelby's, it's pretty much the same concept. The only thing with the new gt500 is that they're too damn heavy. Yes, they have more horsepower, but their weight counteracts that making it not much faster than a Mach.

weight isnt even a factor in this race, the 06 weighs 3,613 and has about 300 horsepower stock, the 03 weighs 3465 lbs and has about 305 horsepower stock, thats not even a 200 pound difference, thats only about a .3 difference in a quarter mile, its all in the engine and driving, stock to stock it wouldve been a close race, look up your stang specs

mach's are under rated from the factory. They can run low 13's factory on street tires with a good driver. the 05+ are pigs.. just like the gto's. I beat ls1 gtos hands down and beat ls2 gtos from a dig by a length. they get me from a 45 roll by two cars though.

Well we agree to disagree. The Mach is lighter and has more h.p. I love the SN197's but given equal drivers you can't argue with physics. I drive both frequently as I own a Mach and am a Ford Master technician so I drive the new ones all the time. Machs feel WAY faster but only beat 05+ by about 2 tenths in the quarter. Wins a win. SN197's do respond really well to mods though...all bets are off when the wallets open up. Respectably.

No 7000-10000 miles is well broken in. Stock Mach 1s run high 13s stock and so do new GTs. Both stock would be a very close race. Stock 03-04 Cobras run high 12s stock.
I don't know what track you go to but the cars run slower there than they do here. I have seen new GTs run 13.3 I have seen new Mach 1's run 12.79 and I have seen new Cobra's run 12.3 and all stock. And the mileage you quoted is way broken in.
I don't know where you're at but here in Florida were at 30 ft above sea level and this was at about 65-70 degrees. Stock Machs do not run 12s I had an 04 Torch Red 5-speed and it did not run 12s. I also have a 2006 GT auto and they run about the same. The winner of the race would depend on the driver.
Well here in Georgia I guess we have people that know how to race. Just because your Mach 1 didn't run 12's doesn't mean it can't. Maybe you need to let somebody that can drive take it down the strip.
Well unless Ford likes the people in Georgia better than in Florida, and gave the Machs destined for GA more power they do not. I put 30,000 miles on an 04 Torch Red Mach 1 with a 5 speed and I took it to the track a couple times and it DID NOT run 12s nor will any bone stock Mach 1. Unlike you I owned one, so I think I have just a little bit more ground to stand ont than you.
I have been in love with Mustangs for as long as I can remember. I have studied them and driven all different makes and models. I have forgotten more about them than you will ever know. I am not doubting you couldn't get your Mach 1 in the 12's. Just because you own a car doesn't mean you can drive it. Take lessons that may help.
I don't care who is behind the wheel, a bone stock Mach 1 WILL NOT I repeat WILL NOT run 12s. I've owned 4 Mustangs, and driven Cobras, Saleens, Roushes, GT500s, you name it I've driven it.

Oh, but I am not the only one who drove my car that day. Me and my friends all drove each others cars to see who could get the fastest time. At the time my Mach was averaging between a 13.6-13.8. A Terminator Cobra runs 12s stock, More or less the same motor with a blower running the same time as the Mach that is NA and weighs about the same. Well a unless the blower isnt doing anything um something doesn't add up.
I really hate to be arguing with a mustang fan considering our time would be better spent picking on the chevy guys. But let me clue you in on something. I own a 2004 Mustang GT and the only mod I have on it is a catback exhaust. With street tires I have run a best of 13.52@100mph. I average high 13's. Are you saying that my near stock GT runs with your Mach 1 which is supposed to have 50 more horsepower and 3.55 gears compared to my 3.27 gears.
And if you are going by what you read in the magazines please don't. Publications like MotorTrend usually run a second slower in the 1/4 than what the cars will really run. The put people in the cars who weigh 400lbs and shift like grandma on Sundays. Then they tell you that is the fastest that car will do. It is BS.
The magazines do claim the time that I was seeing but who knows I doubt that they could be a whole second slower but slower yes. Who knows, maybe its an anomaly? But lets end this and pick on some Chevy guys lol. Oh BTW I sold the Mach, now I am the proud owner of a 2006 Redfire GT. So far the only mods I have are a Bassani axle back and catted X, and a couple appearance mods.
Let your next purchase be a cold air intake. It works well with the exhaust. As for the magazines, if you want real world numbers then get "Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords". Their people can drive and will give you a better idea of what a car will really run.
The cold air intake will be my next mod. Im thinking a C&L intake with either an SCT or Predator tuner. Then maybe some lower gears. MM&FF got a 13.5 out of a 2005 Mustang GT stock. I don't know about a Mach though.
I have a subscription and the fastest I saw them get out of a Mach 1 was a 13.19. I would recommend the SCT tuner for you car. I bought one for my mustang and it does allow you to do a lot of personal tunes. I don't know whether you have a manual or auto but from personal experience i would recommend 4.10 gears with an auto and 3.73 gears with a manual. Good luck on your future runs.
I have an auto but I still think I would go with 3.73s. The car isn't driven on the highway alot, but when it is I dont want the revs too high. I might consider some 3.90s. BTW what's the fastest time they got out of a new GT stock? The fastest I've seen is like a 13.5.
I would have to go through my stack and find the article so I will get back to you on the time they pulled. I know a stock manual ran a 13.3 to my 13.9 a few months ago. He spun pretty good coming off the line so I think high 12's wouldn't be totally out of the question with a good pair of slicks.
Ray, it was a 13.19 or a .2, What you don't see in the mag is they run the car below a 1/4 tank an remove the spare tire. They ice the cars for hours on end before making a pass, on top of 7outta10 times they are doing there testing on days where the weather is so perfect for racing its sickening.I've been too MM&FF track testing days with the old shop I worked for and I've seen it first hand. Evan Smith is the fucking MAN when it comes to driving.
Ive seen an almost stock 04 Mach,with on ly a catback and mid pipe do 12.8-12.9 regulary at the track.And he wasnt using slick either.And a stock 04 will beat the new gt's,I own a 04 screaming yellow mach and I beat them all the time and the only mods on mine right now is weld in Flow 44's
That was not a fair race :( Stock vs. Stock would be better. Still think the Mach I would win, its lighter, has 4-V per cyl. and DOHC's. Plus it makes 5 extra hp. Still would be a interesting race.
stock mach 1's run low 13's with a good driver. theres no way a stock mach 1 runs high 12's. a few minor bolt ons and drag radials will get in into the high 12's.
Look, I just about live at the dragstrip. I see every kind of make and model race. I talk to the drivers and look their cars over. When I say a stock Mach 1 can run high 12s I know what I am talking about. I've seen it done. Cars will run differently at different places. My bone stock 2004 Mustang GT has run a 13.52 on street tires.

I hate to break this to whom ever thought this was a valid run; however, I have already done this test myself. I have a 2006 stock GT and raced a Mach 1. I won. The air dam doesn't do much for the 2003 you guys. With the TCS on or off after several runs my vehicle kept winning.
Sorry kids a Mach 1 is not going to have a staggering lead if any lead at all. If anyone doubts this I'd be happy to show you if you are ever in the Twin Cities area.

syvrin, your friend with the Mach 1 needs a driver mod if he can't put a car on you. You are obviously a better driver in a slower car, it happens. A bone stock Hemi Ram ran a better time than my brother's GTO in the 1/8th, but he consistently 60 footed 2.3. Is the GTO faster? Yes, by a lot. Is the Ram driver better? ... I don't know, it is easy to get an automatic off the line.

Uh the 99-04's are not faster than the new ones... Unless your saying that having much less hp is good? New GT's have more at the wheels than an 99-04 GT has at the crank. 04 GT's only weigh 360 or so lbs. less which doesn't compensate for the 40 horse difference.

well with 4.10's you would roast a stock 3v. Had you taken a 3v put 4.10s, tune, intake, and tires on it, it would roast a mach. Stock vs. stock yes the mach is faster but not by much it is a drivers race.

The mach is rated at 305-310 horse i believe. Yeah the mach and 05+ GT's both have 3.55. And the 4.10's i was replying to you talking about the guy with the mach having tune intake and 4.10's beating a 3v. So I was pointing out that a 3v with those would beat a 4v... But your 300 lbs. less and 5 more horse equal drivers mach wins but if you have a better driver in 05+ it'll win. The machs just not that much faster. Either way an LS1 would kill either of us unsuper'd :(

well ls1's dont kill me in stock form. I raced some stock vs stock and it was drivers race.. and in the gto's its a murder scene. they are hogs. Right now I can take a stock ls1 really easily. I have midpipe, intake, short throw, exhaust and xcal3 custom tune. Never dynod but I should be around 300 whp easily. the lt1 is nothing. gt's can hang with them stock vs stock. they are only fast out of the hole

btw it isnt an issue of the 99-04 being less hp. its who can plant it. um. the ls1 is a very strong powerfull engine.. but in the gto.. it blows dog nuts. i leave the things sitting. I dont care what hp the 05+gt has stock. its slow. and IMO slower than the 99-04 new edge. considering ive had more new edge gt's keep up than 05 gt's. man its like strapping a 300hp mustang engine in a semi truck and loading the trailer down and trying to race it. think of it that way. geez

I own the Mach and was doing the driving in the video. 05-07 GT's do not fair well in stock form. I was racing a friend in the video and have also driven the car myself many times. There is no doubt the weight and torque management hurt the new GT's. They do ride and handle much better and the interiors blow away the 99-04 GT's. However, thats not what wins races...

Some of these people don't know what they're saying. The newer mustangs (2005+) are definetly slower on account of their weight. Also, the Mach 1 has more horsepower and is lighter than the new gt, so saying that the new gt's are much faster is a load of bs. As for the new shelby's, it's pretty much the same concept. The only thing with the new gt500 is that they're too damn heavy. Yes, they have more horsepower, but their weight counteracts that making it not much faster than a Mach.

weight isnt even a factor in this race, the 06 weighs 3,613 and has about 300 horsepower stock, the 03 weighs 3465 lbs and has about 305 horsepower stock, thats not even a 200 pound difference, thats only about a .3 difference in a quarter mile, its all in the engine and driving, stock to stock it wouldve been a close race, look up your stang specs

mach's are under rated from the factory. They can run low 13's factory on street tires with a good driver. the 05+ are pigs.. just like the gto's. I beat ls1 gtos hands down and beat ls2 gtos from a dig by a length. they get me from a 45 roll by two cars though.

Well we agree to disagree. The Mach is lighter and has more h.p. I love the SN197's but given equal drivers you can't argue with physics. I drive both frequently as I own a Mach and am a Ford Master technician so I drive the new ones all the time. Machs feel WAY faster but only beat 05+ by about 2 tenths in the quarter. Wins a win. SN197's do respond really well to mods though...all bets are off when the wallets open up. Respectably.

No 7000-10000 miles is well broken in. Stock Mach 1s run high 13s stock and so do new GTs. Both stock would be a very close race. Stock 03-04 Cobras run high 12s stock.

I don't know what track you go to but the cars run slower there than they do here. I have seen new GTs run 13.3 I have seen new Mach 1's run 12.79 and I have seen new Cobra's run 12.3 and all stock. And the mileage you quoted is way broken in.

I don't know where you're at but here in Florida were at 30 ft above sea level and this was at about 65-70 degrees. Stock Machs do not run 12s I had an 04 Torch Red 5-speed and it did not run 12s. I also have a 2006 GT auto and they run about the same. The winner of the race would depend on the driver.

Well unless Ford likes the people in Georgia better than in Florida, and gave the Machs destined for GA more power they do not. I put 30,000 miles on an 04 Torch Red Mach 1 with a 5 speed and I took it to the track a couple times and it DID NOT run 12s nor will any bone stock Mach 1. Unlike you I owned one, so I think I have just a little bit more ground to stand ont than you.

I am not doubting you couldn't get your Mach 1 in the 12's. Just because you own a car doesn't mean you can drive it. Take lessons that may help.

Oh, but I am not the only one who drove my car that day. Me and my friends all drove each others cars to see who could get the fastest time. At the time my Mach was averaging between a 13.6-13.8. A Terminator Cobra runs 12s stock, More or less the same motor with a blower running the same time as the Mach that is NA and weighs about the same. Well a unless the blower isnt doing anything um something doesn't add up.

I really hate to be arguing with a mustang fan considering our time would be better spent picking on the chevy guys. But let me clue you in on something. I own a 2004 Mustang GT and the only mod I have on it is a catback exhaust. With street tires I have run a best of 13.52@100mph. I average high 13's. Are you saying that my near stock GT runs with your Mach 1 which is supposed to have 50 more horsepower and 3.55 gears compared to my 3.27 gears.

Let your next purchase be a cold air intake. It works well with the exhaust. As for the magazines, if you want real world numbers then get "Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords". Their people can drive and will give you a better idea of what a car will really run.

The cold air intake will be my next mod. Im thinking a C&L intake with either an SCT or Predator tuner. Then maybe some lower gears. MM&FF got a 13.5 out of a 2005 Mustang GT stock. I don't know about a Mach though.

I have a subscription and the fastest I saw them get out of a Mach 1 was a 13.19. I would recommend the SCT tuner for you car. I bought one for my mustang and it does allow you to do a lot of personal tunes. I don't know whether you have a manual or auto but from personal experience i would recommend 4.10 gears with an auto and 3.73 gears with a manual. Good luck on your future runs.

I have an auto but I still think I would go with 3.73s. The car isn't driven on the highway alot, but when it is I dont want the revs too high. I might consider some 3.90s. BTW what's the fastest time they got out of a new GT stock? The fastest I've seen is like a 13.5.

I would have to go through my stack and find the article so I will get back to you on the time they pulled. I know a stock manual ran a 13.3 to my 13.9 a few months ago. He spun pretty good coming off the line so I think high 12's wouldn't be totally out of the question with a good pair of slicks.

Ray, it was a 13.19 or a .2, What you don't see in the mag is they run the car below a 1/4 tank an remove the spare tire. They ice the cars for hours on end before making a pass, on top of 7outta10 times they are doing there testing on days where the weather is so perfect for racing its sickening.I've been too MM&FF track testing days with the old shop I worked for and I've seen it first hand. Evan Smith is the fucking MAN when it comes to driving.

Look, I just about live at the dragstrip. I see every kind of make and model race. I talk to the drivers and look their cars over. When I say a stock Mach 1 can run high 12s I know what I am talking about. I've seen it done. Cars will run differently at different places. My bone stock 2004 Mustang GT has run a 13.52 on street tires.
