@turbomoore No other engine makes HP per liter like a rotary. Yes they have issues but mostly in the hands of the wrong person. I like the rotary engines a lot, if you keep them under 500 hp with the right supporting mods they will last for years. diesels will outlast almost anything.

@IxBlueRavenxI It may have been a good one in lemans,but unfortunately Audi didnt use rotary engine and kicked ass there.Oh and because it revs so high and has such a low displacement,there can be no torque expected,so its not such a powerful one.Also there are more better engines,which have bigger hp to weight relation.For example Buick made its all aluminium V8 in the mid 60's and it was light and had more power than the rotary.

Well the 787b(correction idk why i said b29) was so good they banned it from Le mans,The rx7 FD had 276 hp it could keep up and beat any firebird,or camaro,even corvette from that time, it is one of the best handling cars,perfectly balanced with 50:50 weight and the Rx7 has disgusting potential,I know for a fact that a v8 engine is not lighter than a rotary engine,you could have a 1000hp v8 but that doesn't matter,the Rx7 is perfectly balanced and that is what makes it the better car.

It may be well balanced,but the engine still sucks.Why do you think then that all good drag race cars boast with V8 engines and are some old americans.Plus id bet that it would take me lot less money to upgrade my Audi V8 than the rx7 to a certain level of performance.Besides the rx7 makes crap noise and like i said before tends to break down easily.So all those thousands of rpms dont give it very much anything good.Also,rotary engines have have a limit to how much power can they be upgraded to.

@IxBlueRavenxI Comparison tests have shown that the Mazda's rotary powered RX-8 uses more fuel than a heavier vehicle powered by larger displacement V-8 engine for similar performance results.This is mainly because piston rings dont provide a good seal and wankel engines have a longer stroke duration.Also the less effective sealing of the Wankel is a big factor of reducing the engine's life and power.And about my Audi,the odometer shows 330k and i havent done a complete overhaul to the engine.

@IxBlueRavenxl Audi 5 cylinder engines run up to mil,without complete iverhaul,so i think my Audi will keep running for a very long time.As for the fuel economy,its logical for the wankel to take more fuel,because if the seals allow expansion and the duration of the stroke lasts only 720 degrees compared to Otto's cycle,which lasts 1080 degrees.It may take bit less fuel than a suburban,but i think it will struggle to get close to my Audi's mpg.Like it or not,but thats the way it is.

Mazda rx7 does 17mpg,my 1989 Audi V8 Quattro with the 4,2l V8 does 14mpg and the car weighs over 1,5 tons easily,maybe even 1,8 tons + it has awd,which also increases fuel consumption.
