  • @DJsaxby16 i agree, but we all have our different opinion's on the way we see art. if he doesnt want to see it with a meaning, then so be it. we all see and do our art differently, and that is why it makes our art unique and beautiful.

  • Caravaggio would roll over in his grave if he were to see the modern day garbage that saturates the art world of today.

  • Abstract art is what Islam does and ancient civilizations also did, this is nor abstract OR art, it´s just a pile of ¨%&$*(&*()

  • Colourful and wonderful expression.

  • I personally paint abstract, some people like to say it has a soul and all this other stuff.. Personally, it's just designs and colors to make a room look good. That's all it really is.

  • great painting techniques!

  • You should have to be at least SOMEWHAT talented to be an artist.

  • hi greats from germany ,,i like abstrect and make it ,,,i hope you like my ABSTRACT PICTURES!!!

  • I'm not synaesthesic, but when I see this kind of stuff, it triggers an auditory sensation not dissimilar to when you blow up a balloon, and then let go of it without tying up the end. It gets significantly louder when the artist tries to justify it.

  • LOL this is complete bullshit, she just did whatever and moving your hands everywhere hahahaahah so stupid there is such thing as abstract but you have to have some sort of realness to it

  • Hello Lynne, great video!

  • j ai aimé votre video un travail presque écrit et serieux compliments de france adrien tudare artiste

  • nice painting! and i like your courage. great explanation.

  • I too am an abstract artist and I 100 percent understand what you are saying because I go thru a similar process in my mind

  • The biggest problem with art these days is all these people try to put words into the expression and explain why their painting looks the way it looks, instead, allow the viewer to make a connection with the painting and let him or her judge for themselves on what the art means. After all, the art is for the one who enjoys it, not the one who creates it

  • Thank you for your explanation. I understand abstract art a little better.

I love that piece behind you, it gives a big of a graffiti feel.

  • Hi artbylt, I was bored in class one day and started doodling and my friends was like, "WOAH COOL!" or ,"Lol do you draw alot?" so I started drawing and now I want to be like you...however I'm different because all I do is just swirls and black ink. Unlike other artist who can draw good and choose to go back to swirls.....so basicly what I'm asking is please check out my videos and tell me should I continue drawing or forget it.......

  • @InkMakesArt

You have a good sense of design and control of your drawing tool. If you love what you're doing, keep going. Your art will evolve. It doesn't matter where you start.

  • @artbylt OMGGG Thx sooo much for replying you don't know what it means to me being compliment by someone like you! Thx so much! Also since you said it doesn't matter where you start, it made me feel alot better about not being able to draw a good hman face or a nice horse. Thank you so much!

  • great job

  • kjflkjdfkldsjkfljdkljsdkfjsd

See those random letters, I call it art, it's for sale name your price.

  • @SupremeCommander360 ill give you 25,000 dollars for kjflkjdfkldsjkfljdkljsdkfjsd

  • lol ladies and gentlemen its all what youve been waiting for!... a peice of paper with squiggly lines!

  • it's hard to put into words because it's nonsense. if you took some of the squigly lines and moved them around RANDOMLY and inverted some of the colours it would have the exact same level of meaning....

  • absolutley NO freakin' TALENT.

  • I laugh at people looking at abstract art and thinking it has deep meaning. It's just a couple of fucking squiggles and a fe different colours

  • @dabadeedabadie001 Like beauty, meaning is not a property possessed by a thing or object; it is a product of perception. It's true that abstract art has no INHERENT meaning since it usually isn't a direct representation of anything, but if all painting did was to represent an image directly, what would art be but second-rate photography?

  • @dabadeedabadie001 Are you saying that colours and forms retain no meaning for you? You look at red and feel exactly the same way you do when you look at blue or yellow? You compare a circle to a square and the only differences you note are those of geometry? People like you seem to have intellectualized the word "meaning" to the point where it's no longer just a signpost pointing to something else, but it's obligated to act as a carrier of different kinds of messages and themes.

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx Yes a shape is a fucking shape and a colour is a colour, it has nothing to do with "the meaning of life" all these alternative artists go on about

  • @dabadeedabadie001 Which artworks do you feel are "worthy" enough to capture or symbolise the meaning of life then? What requirements do you place on them? I don't see why colour and form alone are unable to do this; actually, I feel that they're MORE capable of capturing life due to their sheer simplicity, the same way I feel many melodies capture life better than any written works I've read.

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx It seems pretty undeniable that there is a limited range of aesthetic parameters with regard to what is visually and acoustically perceived as harmonious or beautiful. These parameters are not so granitic that they don't allow a near endless world of possible art, but they are not so inconsistent that they may be disregarded. In the hyper-intellectualized pretense of unbridled expression, contemporary art often steps out of bound with beauty and is rightly despised by the masses

  • @DonVoghano I agree that beauty is certainly limited by a number of factors, but beauty isn't the sole reason that people appreciate art, especially abstract.

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx Yes, however most people expect beauty in art, and contemporary artists looking to shock or to appear novel at all cost should not be surprised when their work is misunderstood or ridiculed. Furthermore many contemporary artists willingly or unwillingly disregard technique and favor a spontaneistic or gimmicky approach which very often fails to deliver whatever message they are trying to get across. There are ideological flaws in this conception of what art is, in my opinion.

  • @DonVoghano It's true that abstract art allows talentless artists much more leeway than any other art form, but that doesn't detract from those who actually know what they're doing and can create works that are beautiful or evocative. It's not fair to judge a whole style of art by its worst examples, when there are enough great examples to negate them.

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx We agree here. But this is the problem, where do you draw the line? It seems to me a fact that the vast majority of the population today would more readily recognize as artful a piece of advertisement or a ghetto graffiti (however abstract) than most of the works exhibited in contemporary art museums and accompanied by even less intelligible, and irritatingly pretentious, critical commentaries. There is a disconnect, a social divide, that is alienating people from art.

  • @dabadeedabadie001 God people like you are so ignorant. The deep meaning is from within, not from the outside, but the inside. You can express it any way you want to in art. This painting is a great example. Abstract art is strickly visual like she said, but it does have deep meaning. I mean are you even an artist, cause if you are you would know this kind of stuff.

  • @DJsaxby16 Yes I am an artist, I draw squiggly lines all the time.....Art means drawing pictures or making sculptures of actual "THINGS", all this modern art bullshit with it's "deep meaning" stuff is a load of crap, if you want to express yourself with deep meaning then go write poetry. In fact modern art "artists", as you call them, strike me as failed poets, who think a load of squiggly lines will put their message out there.

  • WOW AWESOME

  • I did my first painting 40 years ago and in the past I thought realism was the only way to go. Now I see that abstract art is the ultimate painting challenge. To be candid, today most realism bores me (even the best realism). To me, most mechanical/process paintings have become glorified "paint-by-number" efforts. I think one has to mature into abstract art to appreciate it.

Good video and well stated. Thanks

  • "making sure that everything is just so" - overdetermination

"other times I sit and stare at the painting and say 'hmm' how can I make this work" - not overdetermination?

  • Hi Lynne. Great Video!

    Greetings,

    Carmen

  • @carmenguedez

    Thanks, Carmen!

    Lynne

  • This video was well done and well said, i would love to start doing some abstract art, If i could just find someone I could connect with to teach me, That's a big part of it for me, The environment to learn, and the person teaching it, I can tell that I would totally enjoy this lady as a teacher, She speaks well and clear, and has an enthusiasm that I like and connect with,

  • thank you so much for trying to express your feelings, i feel the same way about art , i dont like when people tell me what's good art and what;s not i think art is freedom a way to try to show people your feelings, your thoughts.

  • just nail the palette to the wall ?

    Is that too abstract? lol.

  • i love abstract art and everything u said in that video i can relate completly with...i love your work!

  • i like to paint abstract art as well. what you're describing is exactly how i feel when i paint. well said.

  • So, basically, you randomly paint random shit with no real meaning then sell it to retards who view it as real art?

  • @RuneFinity44 The only retard here is a fifteen year old twerp like you that thinks they have any idea as to what constitutes "real art".

  • it looks like you had a intense twitch

  • Thank u I have been watching videos for answers then I find yours and u are exactly what I'm looking for I'm like you but I am a younger hip hop oriented abstract artist thank you very much I saw your video and believe it or not I cam relate 100%

  • You shouldn't be hating on people's work. Most people (including me) paint because it's fun.

  • love the painting! nice bold colours please the eyes! nice to see! thanks for sharing....It's funny I use a similar pallet with my work as well....cheers! raeart

  • really interesting. Thanks. Nice to have a visual experience with this video :-)

  • fab!

  • Very nice artwork!!!

  • That was great! I don't think I could have said it any better...thank you...That is exactly how I VIEW and appreciate abstract art

  • I stumbled across your website and WOW, love your beautiful paintings. Awesome. Only in the last couple of years I have suddenly felt attracted to more abstract paintings - the colors and shapes and lines. It's as simple as that, but not simple to achieve I think! Thank you for sharing your artwork. Loving it.

  • Very good bullshitting.

  • @timg455 Agreed!

  • seriously~!!! how is that even good?? please explain...

  • Question, isn't it before you start to scribble on something and call it art that you have to prove that you can actually draw?

  • Art should still look good, yours looks like shit, sorry

  • nice work!

  • Excellent, summed up my own thoughts about about working in the abstract better than I ever could.

I find it interesting that we are wired to accept a group of musical notes as a group without question yet the idea of doing what is in effect the same with color and line is so difficult.

  • youve just given me an almighty idea thankyou

  • As an abstract artist my self this video is great to watch. I try and remove thought and focus on emotion and energy when painting

  • @scottmcleod0art

can you really paint abstract along with your emotion?im a new painter, i always paint sceneries..i want to try abstract and i wonder how they get and mixed those beautiful colours.. i love all colours..

  • I just want to say your video really helped me. I'm a fairly new painter...I started a few months ago with acrylic on canvas and with abstract I am very often stepping out of my comfort zone. You reminded me to stop over analyzing, stop thinking and just paint. It always comes out better when I do that, but I am a bit of a perfectionist. Abstract art is not about perfection. Thank you!!!

  • I think you've done a good job at describing your work. I don't think you should have started out by saying "you can't really describe it in words." It doesn't matter if the sexy parts are pure accident, or whether you have an open-mind when you paint. Talk about how you feel when painting (as you did). I like this piece; it has suggestions of Kandinsky influence. I love the dynamics and the pure colour.

  • Amazing work, colors are stimulating and the whole composition is working. Dynamic and the piece stands on its own, bravo!!!

  • Before posting your abstract work, I would like you to post any of your classical paintings if you ever did one. Then I will judge you and tell you if you are a real artist or not. Otherwise explanations and words like these are empty!

  • And who the hell are you to judge anyone's art?

  • art has been stolen from the masses by a few intellectuals. Good art doesnt need explaining.

Like medieval times when art was only in reach of the clergy and rich, now it is only confined by a small circle of academics. Thiefs!!!

  • Why do you try to use words to talk about this or any painting? You said it yourself. I think maybe you starred this one down a little too long. I can not see the drips. I'd like to because, let me tell you, I like drips. I like them maybe more than splats, drops, splashes, slashes or splatters. No, really this is a pretty nice piece. I'd probably buy it if I saw it and hang it for a while in this home. If this seems mean spirited its not meant to be; having a bad day maybe. Thanks for sharing.

  • the artspeak was more interesting than the painting,no offence intended.

  • Although I don't really fancy abstract art I enjoy the questions it asks. Why does art have to make sense? Why does art need meaning? Why does art need to look good? They are today's expressionist painters.

  • And to the person who said total abstraction is pretentious. De Kooning is pretentious? And Pollock? Franz Kline, Mark Rothko are pretentious? Robert Motherwell is prentensious? Kandinsky is pretentious? Surely you jest.

  • One of the best ways to "mess up" doing abstract art is to try to emulate another abstract artist. To try to be him or her. To not have worked through the technical and classical training of representational art. Another way to mess up is try to do work without understanding it by looking at a ton of it and making sure you have a grasp on the ideas. If you can't draw, don't even try to do abstract art.

  • Abstract art should not be an avanue for those who couldn't be bothered honing technical skills. IMO you should practice how to convey reality with accuracy, before you begin exploring less tangible ideas. In no way am I hating on abstract art, but I do feel that its authenticity is somewhat diluted when people use it as a excuse for poor technical execution, instead of a real passion going into the work.

  • i agree. develop skill then go to abstract there will be a huge difference. i think her paintings show little skill and she shouldnt be talking like she knows what shes doing. i have never seen such a long video where so much is said yet nothing is said.

  • @pullingthestringz

I wanna try it the other way around. Start abstract then move to figurative work.

  • @ JohnPurchaseArt

Great! All I was saying is that I get annoyed when people use abstract art as an excuse for them not being able to draw or paint, ect. Truthfully, if someone can create a great abstract piece, it will be a superior achievement in my eyes, then a realistic piece that looks like a photograph. I look forward to seeing your work!

  • total abstraction is pretentious

  • Even really small chidren can do abtract art. It doesn't take alot of talent. But it still looks great and inspires emotion.

  • But small children can't make comments as ignorant as the one your have just made.

Children make the ultimate abstract art, adults can only dream of achieving that child-like quality.

  • my comment wasn't negative or ignorant. Read it again jerk.

  • Ignorant now personal ?

I don't need to read it again. You should just stick to subjects you know at least a little bit about.

  • Now now, you should try and be nice. not everyones a know it all like yourself.

  • Nice ?

What exactly do you mean by nice ?

Go back and read the comments again in context to the actual conversation.

Hard to remain "nice" with stupid and ignorant comments you know.

  • Well, i understand what your saying. Abstract paintings come from you mind and soul. It's what your feeling at the time when your doing it, and kids have a vivid imagination when it comes to any art they do. I don't paint, although i would love to. I figured this would be the first step. Abstract, you can't mess up on, really. But i'm learing, by watching, and hope to start doing it. I just need to learn the basics first. Maybe she don't paint, but hopes to aswell, like me.

  • These videos are great as they can give you a lot of encouragement and so even if you feel you can't "draw" very well, which is more of a technical skill in a lot of ways, you can simply start to paint.

I am what could easily considered an "expert" artist, I am a highly trained professional, highly skilled with brush and paint over a lot of years. I can easily paint a landscape or a portrait but don't anymore, I paint abstract and work in a way so as to avoid using those "skills"

    Just do it !

  • "Just do it" I'm seriously thinking about it.

Seems to be fun, but yet relaxing all at the same time.

  • Just go and get some old bits of board, some old house paint or poster paint or anything and just start splashing the stuff around, whatever you feel like doing, it really is a fantastic thing, I love it.

My latest artworks involve large quantities of acrylic paint (so much that it takes about two weeks for it to dry properly) a few thousand rusty washers, about 10,000 shiny rivets, hundreds of old keys and God only knows what else. I just chuck paint around, and ruin all my clothing !

  • LOL....do you incorporate objects into your paintings or just use certain objects to paint with, cause with paintings it's endless.

  • Yes, anything at all that takes my fancy that adds heaps of extra texture. More often than not you don't really even notice stuff is there until you are up quite close, even then a lot of people don't notice til it's pointed out as they are simply looking at the overall effect.

For quite a few years I was just using paint but in recent times I began adding in everyday items like nuts, bolts screws, washers, keys etc and I have collected several hundred old watches I am about to use as well.

  • Stuff?

    You have no vocabulary!

By the way, abstract painting sucks!

  • Sucks ? You either have no vocabulary like me or you are a bit queer perhaps ?

  • I'm NOT queer!

    Because it does suck!

  • You CAN "mess up on" abstract work, really.

  • hi rosmia2 how do u mess up on abstract work?...it kinda looks like a mess to me... im learning about art and i usually draw and paint technical art ... but find abstract interesting... but i wonder what you can do wrong in it... maybe not show your emotion and motion in the art?is it?or not fuel the right colours? can u tell me?

    thanks

    -DJ

  • Abstract art is an escape for the untallented!

Why are the people that scribble paint on canvas praised so much and the people that paint perfectly are not praised for their tallent at all!

  • Interesting, talent you say ?

I am a full-time professional artist, have been for 30 years and there is no question I am a highly skilled craftsman and a highly "talented" artist yet I am an abstract artist. I could easily draw or paint your portrait or a pretty little landscape for a pleasing calendar or to hang on your lounge wall but the real talent lies in letting all of that skill go and no longer relying on it to produce art.

You are either young or stupid so what you say is fine for now

  • Young and stupid?

    I'm not stupid!

    If i'm young i'm stupid?

You can't just realise the fact that abstract art is something any 2 year old can do!

  • And that comment is the same lame crap that people have been coming up with for decades, that "any two year old could do" but the funny thing is that I haven't ever actually seen any who could, let alone produce art day after day, year after year in a disciplined way as part of an ongoing process.

So you don't like abstract art ?

Here's the thing gay boy, no one cares what you like or don't like and any two year old can come up with the shit you are coming up with.

  • I'm a girl and i'm not gay!

    IDIOT!

Anyone in the world can do this!

  • You can't.

  • I can't?

    You are totaly wrong!

  • Of course you can't, if you could you would understand what it's about.

How did you put it ?

"I will take a piece of canvas and paint it purpe and then add black drips all over it finished of by a line! The final result? CRAP"

You see, that shows your ignorance but you are right about the bit at the end "CRAP" and that is what you are talking here.

The truth of the matter is that you can't see it, you just don't get it so your comments come across as nothing short of childish.

  • Whatever...

  • @fruitysquerrle

I checked out your art. You shouldn't go around blasting others peoples work.

Your not bad but your there yet take some classes, and learn some art history while your at it.

  • I love art!

But i just don't like abstract art since i know that any one can do it.

    :/

  • Making statements like this is childish. You should quit painting if you can't open your mind a little.

  • I should not quit painting!

    Do you paint abstract?

  • @fruitysquerrle

No you should not quit painting. Also not everyone can paint Abstract art.. There is far more to it than just dripping paint. I don't know how to make you undestand what you see.

One thing I know is not every kind of Art is for everyone. Enjoy what you like and try to understand what you don't.

  • That is a good reply!

Most people tell me to quit painting and just tell me that i'm gay, which by the way i'm not!

  • @fruitysquerrle

Just try and grow as an artist. Never give up on your dream, Just remeber your dream is not the sames as someone else.

I would show you my art. But I don;t want to post my Web page on another Artist Video page.

  • @fruitysquerrle Some I do and some I don't, Does not mean that all abstract is bad or that what I don't like is bad, Just means I don;t like a certain piece of art.

  • Comment removed

  • @fruitysquerrle...you don't know much about art history, do you?

  • I know alot better than you do!

  • history doesn't exist, neither does the future

    LOL

  • If you don't agree with my personal opinion, please keep it to yourself because I'm not interested.

  • a grate lesson is that if u mess up on a painting or canvous you can always go back.

  • Yes, you make a good point. There's no need to fear making a mistake!

  • Thats because you drip paitn every were with no talent what so ever!

  • @artbylt how can you make a mistake on a bunch of crap

  • i like to do abstract is how i feel if im mad i paint crazy wild colors if im sad its dark and calm

  • Abstract art is about natural expressionism, where each viewers mind creates their own unique portrait of the chaos.

    I like your work Lynne.

    Karl.

  • Thanks, Karl. Interesting comment.

    Lynne

  • I really like abstract art maybe because it seems easy.

  • Making something seem easy takes talent, experience, and hard work. One kind of painting is not really any easier than another, to do well.

  • art isnt easy but all abstract art is, is using colours and line to create thoughts in your head

  • No it does not!

I will take a piece of canvas and paint it purpe and then add black drips all over it finished of by a line!

    The final result?

    CRAP

  • @artbylt "One kind of painting is not really any easier than another, to do well"... That's nonsense, in my opinion. I bet Chuck Close could do a painting like this on his lunch break. Let's see you do some comparable to Close's work. I don't intend to be mean, and I don't militantly oppose this type of artwork...In fact, I promote it as something we should all do as a form of therapy.... Anyway, I also must say that I don't see how this is an abstract painting. It's non-objective, not abstract

  • I honestly don't like the painting you show, but that's because Im not into that particular type of abstractism, I prefer something more constructivist. I think that an artist's creative proccess is very particular, specially in terms of abstract art, but thanks for sharing yours.

  • The process is animated, but it is what leads to the final product. They are both important, but the painting is the creation that comes out of the process.

  • you said movement. so could the painting be described as an animatic process.? i am struggling with this because i am not sure weather the final product or the process is more important..

  • Comment removed

  • Just in case the format here is not clear...my previous comment was in response to nhasato's nonsense, who is obviously talking through their ass.

    Telling it like it is......

    thanks,

    Christine

  • I think th painting is beautiful

  • Thank you!

  • i think her composition and color sense is lacking.

  • Are you for real?

While taste is subjective your comments are objectively false. The evidence is in the work.

You obviously know very little of what you are speaking....

  • I have to agree, just adding a whole lot of color is not being a good colorist, this seems elementary in its color choice it seems right out of the tube and predictable. Sorry but I don't see any of the evidence you are referring to.

  • I think it's interesting hearing how you get your image. I'm not an abstract artist, myself, so I'm always curious how different abstract artist come about with their work. Very revealing video.

  • Thanks for commenting. I'm sure it varies from artist to artist.

  • Jason, thanks for writing. I wish I remembered what I was listening to when I made this painting!

    Lynne

  • I love the painting. My son and I are new to artistic painting. It may sound weird, but I think that I would understand it more if i could hear the song or music you were listening to while you painted it.

  • kind of a zen-style process, eh?

  • Yes, it is being in the present moment of the painting, totally there.

    Lynne

  • why do all you arty farty types have to justify or explain your works? we will make up our own minds to what it is.

after all...its just a fucking painting.

    (but i like it)

  • countless intelligent people are fascinated to hear the artist express him/herself on the nature of their process. in the same way, actors and musicians/songwriters are interviewed. these are all different types of art. i personally will make up my own mind regardless in the end, but as a person with a deep love of art and a sound mind for learning, i'm very engaged by hearing artists speak about their creativity.

  • oh, so you think im not intelligent, just because im not interested in some personal view by the artist? my point is that some arty farty people try to confuse us with complicated words and meanings just to try to justify their scribbles on canvas...this doesnt mean that im not intelligent just because im sometimes confused by these rantings.

    pfft!

  • oddly enough, no, that wasn't my point at all. my point was that intelligent people can share differing opinions, i made no assumption about your intellect. but now that you mention it, yeah, your first comment sounds pretty disrespectful which is just ignorant. and your reply to me, specifying that you feel confused, and apparently therefore angry, does further illustrate that you're not really that bright. hmm. in any case, good luck finding some videos to watch that do interest you.

  • Comment removed

  • wow. heh :) you really are confused.

    good luck with your art.

  • Im with you on this one. i dont fell like theres a need for the artists to explain their work in complicated words. IF the viewers like what they see then theres a chance they might buy it regardless of what it means.

  • I am I suppose an "arty farty" type but I happen to agree with you.

  • excellant commentary on a difficult subject ...and a great painting ...

    painting is a dialogue ...

LONG LIVE ACTION PAINTERS ! ...

  • Wow, you describe exactly how I feel about my paintings. I do the same thing when I paint, listen to good music, sit back and stare at it for awhile and throw vibrant colors around with lots of texture. I thought I liked doing plain air, landscapes...but I get more enjoyment and inspiration when I see and create abstract projects.

  • Thanks for the comment--glad you connected with the vido, and happy painting!

  • I love how brain waves correspond with art and other things. Listening to powerfull music creates a powerfull piece. Soft music makes a very ambient piece.

  • I agree that the music influences the art, but I think for me it's not this direct. Or maybe I need to observe the connection better!

    Thanks for the comment!

  • No problem. I'm an artist myself.

  • Every one is an artist these days!

    Anyone can scribble!

    Grow up!

  • Not true.

  • I love abstract art. I do have one little question: why is it that an artist statement is so crucial? I mean, it's too obvious that some artists write the artist statement just to boost the meaning of the work. I love your abstract piece (so fresh and vibrant!). Thank you for sharing :)

  • Thanks for your comment!

I always believed that one should "look at the art" and that will tell us all. But we live in a verbal culture. An artist's statement helps "explain" the work to people who want help understanding it. Galleries, museums, and MFA programs all want an artist to present their work in a broader cultural context. Also, people are interested in what the art means to the artist.

    Lynne

  • The most interesting part about any art is that the style is usually different which means the visual language is most likely different too. I do find art fascinating and I love creating abstract art, and or watching videos of other artists creating abstract art. Thanks for sharing Lynne :)

  • th
