@payakkeyur you want to catch some movement, not freeze it. that means you'll use a slow shutter speed (longer exposure) so you'll catch the trails of the glowy thingies, not freeze them in one point.
Go to a table, and focus the lens at the middle part of the table, then move the focus range back and forth. When the focus plane moves far away from you, you're going the right way.
@flintloveless i don't know the limit but it's well into the hours... i've owned a 450d, 50d and 5dmkII and all of them allow a seemingly limitless shutter time in bulb. i've taken shots of over 20 minutes and seen some great shots of 40mins+
I set my camera to continuous mode, and have my cable release in the locked on position. This allows me to sit back and watch the show, and let the camera do all the work.
FYI: during the finale you need to drop your exposure way down, because of the increase in light.

This is a great episode. I am literally knowing nearly nothing about photography. I tried doing as closely as I can and the results are stunning.
I don't have a cable release so I used the 2 seconds timer on Canon 60D, my "wide angle lens" is a 17-85mm.
Thank you Mark.

I thought you would use shutter priority..as we are capturing motion ? you would want to have fast shutter right ?

How long can you expose something using bulb mode? Does it limit you to 30 seconds on a Canon?

I don't quite get why the focus is not at infinity. Is it because of the small aperture?
