  • I thought 2ks were bad...then my coach made us do a 2.5k. i promptly passed out afterward haha

  • Im sorry, Im a rower, and rowing is the hardest sport Ive ever competed in, but the guy talking here just sounds like a douche.

  • i do plenty of sports, but tired after a hard swim practice and tired after a 2k(erg or on the water) are on two extremely different levels. when u erg you want to just stop but a real rower knows that the disappointment in one's self from not finishing is worse than any physical pain.

  • Pain. Period...

I miss those days, I better start again soon.

  • as a rower myself the only thing i can imagine as harder is cross country skiing... that shit sucks

  • @herb821 If you want harder, try my club. Next weekend we have the Death Row Regatta: 25kilometers up river. That is of course only if you are up to 5a.m practices from the end of May to late October.

  • shittiest narrating ever

  • its true, you cant play rowing

  • so true Guys, I am also an oarsman, Rowing is is the ultimate sport, it's not a game, and it's never described as a game... :)

  • i just finished my 2k at practice it is the hardest sport in the world

  • lol my coach read this to us to day. im not ready for this

  • I love the whole concept of being half way gone while only being one quarter of the way through a race

  • @tigane1 no one said that

  • @MrRoflgasmic I know, but thats what I feel like when Im racing or doing a 2k

  • @tigane1 ahh makes sense now

  • "when your tired your only 1/5 the way to death" - i'll leave you to determine which coach this was

  • Unlike most sports, crew pushes your body to it's limits and then pushes you to go further. This is a sport that is extremely physical but is even more extremely mental. You have to want it to win. When you feel like you're going to faint, that's when you go all out. You can't quit until it's over. Dieing out is not an option.

  • That seems to cover a big chunk of the feelings in a 2k

  • you must be seriously unfit to hit the first 500 and wonder about if your going to make it or not

  • @nikond90prophoto its called giving it everything! :)

  • @nikond90prophoto or you just push so hard, while not doing a "fly n die", you still keep going at almost the same pace from first 500 to the rest. even olympians have the same feeling

  • never hit the first 500 and told myself i wont make it..... wow..... imagine that.

  • @nikond90prophoto then you weren't pushing hard enough

  • @pklingforth if only you knew..

  • @nikond90prophoto i row man, point is if you're going balls out you should feel like death (giving everything in you) the whole time

  • @NzWavez Not my quote anyways, thats from my captain. Go ahead

  • "The only good race pace is a suicide pace, and today looks like a great day to die"

  • So true!!!

  • perfectly agree with nateo200 rowing is a sport where u punish urself

  • My friend always ask my why i row? and i say i row for me.

hi i am hannah and i train in Mexico, in the B.C.S. my team is the only one in the state.Rrowing has helped me make friends and learnd what people mean when they told me that Rowing is not a sport that you can say you love because its fun because its not, we love rowing because its in our blood

Rowing is an atitude, its a way of life.its not a game

  • rowing is so great. it changed my life. and its fucking orgasmic

  • @freshselect27 Haha, orgasmic might be the wrong choice of word.

  • @cougar1515 lol better ERGasmic?xD

  • crew=

the only sport where the finish line is behind you+ participating in this freakishly hard sport means...sitting!? (all during the race and practices when everything is hurting and we want to pass out to make it stop we are sitting)+(not being able to breath because of rapidly high stroke rates=far layback)+ epic+ friendship

= best sport ever (except when racing)

  • There's no harder spor than rowing... You might try to think of a harder sport but.. no

  • @Phantom937 and the funny part is we are ditting down the whole time lol

  • Rowing hurts, sure, but after you've done it a while (it's my 2nd year college, rowed 4 years highschool) it's not pain at all baby, it's pure glory. You don't think you're going to die, because you don't think at all! You just....row. That's the only way to describe it. Any pain, any fear just melts away when you're really, really rowing. It's just you, your teammates, and your boat, all working as one. GOD I love this sport!!!

  • @cheesemoose89 The only pain I feel any more is when I gotta 2k.

  • @cheesemoose89 lol thats SO TRUE, im still just in my 2nd year of rowing, lol im just about to enter high school but i remember my firsts races i was thinking too much like over analizing, and i won very little, and didnt even able to give all, thinking to save energy

then i started just like thinking well, from start to end, just tell my body to KEEP GOING AND DONT THINK OR EVEN SEE, ignore my senses, and i got gold and silver medals nacionally xD and this time i gave like my best and was dying

  • "running against the forces of darkness ... all the evil in the world, all the hatred."

Christopher McCandless on cross-country running while he was at school

I use the same psyche while rowing... its a spiritual experience through the pain

  • sweet video! is that osu???

  • so true how you feel ryt at dat 500m

  • I got my first headrace tomorrow! watching videos to get pumped!

  • hope it went well mate! my next head race is in under a month.. can not wait.

  • Yeah it did, we got second out of 6! Good luck to you, man.

  • i felt like i was gonna throw up right at the start of the british indoors last year, and my arms and legs just turned to jelly, but we still won! it was so worth it!

  • I totally agree with you nateo200.

  • that may be one of the best discriptions of a race i've ever heard. when I start coaching this will be the first thing I say to the novices every year

  • nateo is right

  • Rowing is the hardest sport. Period. Lactic acid + adrenaline + nausea + physchologically fucked up after a 2k + actually thinking your going to die is FAR FAR FAR worse pain and difficulty than any other athlete will ever endure.

  • haha I don't even consider rowing a sport. rowing is a pain contest, everything else is just a silly game.

  • @xomi3

It is more than a pain contest, it is life.

  • @xomi3 u are fuckin right

  • @xomi3 marathon running?

    rowing is the epicest though

  • @Sigmarian thats true, running is in the same category, but id say rowing is a whole different level of pain and intensity.

  • @xomi3 well I am a rower, i love the sport i know what you mean

  • @nateo200 yeah but it feels great!!!

  • @nateo200 thinking you're going to die. hell yes.

  • @RobPishot thinking, psh more like wishing

  • @nateo200 not to forget the endless blisters you'll endure

  • @nateo200 its not because the pain doesnt last that long, rowing is short and sweet

  • @nateo200 Actually, Olympic wrestling is the hardest sport. Rowing comes in second. Wrestlers hold their muscles whereas a rower will only hold their muscles for short bursts. I am not saying rowing is not difficult. It is. We have the recovery to recover but wrestlers keep going until the other gets too tired to hold their position.

  • @demoncoxie

Except in wrestling, as soon as you get a large enough lead, it's over. You win. In rowing you HAVE to finish the race. Not to mention the fact that you are competing against more than one other "competitor" makes it more challenging from that perspective as well. I'd put cross-country skiing as the only sport ahead of it or rivaling it.

  • @nateo200 dude i am a Rower, but dude Wrestling has to be the hardest. the things taht those guys go throw is horrible. u should watch a wrestling practice. its pretty bad

  • @nateo200 so true. you have just said it all. rowers really are messed up because they are willing to endure torture to the extreme. wat's worse is that some rowers pay to be on a team which means that they are paying to be tortured. Rowing is a sport, everyone else just plays games.

  • @nateo200 times that by ten if your in a single.

  • @McBrucinator except it doesn't matter if you don't row your hardest because you aren't letting anyone down but yourself.

  • @pbcmbeez22 of course but you are seriously weak if you let that happen

  • @nateo200 I COMPLETELY agree. but I can't get enough of it, it's definitely my life now

  • oh y....every time i start a race i feel i'm already dead before reaching the half of the 2km.....

but this is rowing....its on the top 3 hardest sports on the world i think

  • "there for your Gona die" that's what I feel like 500 meters in... At the end it really seams so...

  • "therefore, you're going to die"

    my thoughts everytime i race.

  • Dead on this video is. I dig the Italian rigged four at the beginning.

  • I loved this book it was soooo inspirational!

  • so true

  • its not all fours. there are different ways or rigging boats. what you are seeing has the bow and stroke on one side, and 2 and 3 on the same side. Known as German or bucket rigging, im sure there are other names for it as well.

  • I'm new to rowing and was just wondering why the four has bow and stroke on the same side... is there any particular reason for this???

  • yes, the one in the back of a pair (or a block) is usualy the one struggling with rhytm or the inferior rower in the boat. Not as an offence, merely an explanation

  • its bone chilling how accurate that was... kind of creepy

  • hahaha i was thinking the same thing

  • The only sport, that started as a form of capitol punishment!!

  • "It's not a sport"!!!??? It is hardest sport in the world! And fascinating hobby...

  • Welcome to this life....

It's not a hobby. It's not a sport. It's a life. That quote was soooo true.

  • my friends showed me this video the day before i started crew,it's so tru

  • hopefully your have the balls (or female equivalent if you are a girl) to stick with it eh?

  • thats awsome the boat is bucket riged

  • Forgot how sweet this vid was. I look good.

  • Which boat u in?

  • 4- and the heavy 8 (white hudson 8)

  • thats so true...

  • does anyone else think that when you're on an erg the 2k's go kinda slow but when you're out on the water they go by so fast!?

  • definetly...then again my eight's race time is about 30 seconds faster than my erg

  • same here, my boat time was about 15-20 seconds faster then my 2k time.

on that note, after a 2k erg peice, what does everyone do when they finish? I for one, drop to the ground and dry heave a little, along with some convulsions.

  • i try to do a little jog and stretch, and then get back on the erg:)

  • generally lay there and cant move for about 7 or 8 minutes

  • Good to know I am not alone! Everyone else seems to be tired, but I am the only collapsee!

  • My 2k time is really bad, but i still manage to get in the top double for my school, and get second and nationals..

I think the boat time was like a minute faster than my erg time!

  • Water conditions factor into things I think. My boat time was also faster then my erg time. Also boat uses slightly different technique. And yes, Erg is Horrible, but I find myself doing 10ks on an almost daily basis along with morning practice. And no matter what I eat, i cant seem to gain any weight...

  • lightweight? 2007?

i missed 2nd in the womens lightweight 2x by 0.05 seconds that year

  • nah, it was new zealand secondary schools, 2008. haha and my lightweight double sucked real bad!

  • Ergs don't float.

  • errr thats why he said 'my 2k time is really bad but my boat time was also a minute faster...

  • I was backing him up...

  • yeah same man

  • ergos dont float, its how you pull water

  • definately man! it helps 2 have distractions and scenery on the water. beter than being in a gym, or in my case in the boathouse, nicknamed the dungeon. for a good reason. especially in winter.

  • First off this is my favorite quote ever and has been for a long time. Second off the erg is a beautiful thing which makes you not just physically strong but mentally tough for when you get into that last 100 of a race and you're dead even. The voice this guy used to read this quote sucked. The video was great though

  • Beautiful??? It's more like torture!!!! Obviously great exersice but still horrific invention, up their with the rack.

  • The erg is great. Where would we be without it? We wouldn't be able to ask each other what our 2k is. We wouldn't be nearly as strong. And we wouldn't have the little fish game to play on our monitors.

  • I

    FUCKING

    LOVE

    THE

    FISH

    GAME!

  • true, you couldn't ask what others' erg times are, and they are a good benchmark for fitness, but ergs don't float, boat speed is what matters (but i'm sure you know this).

i both love and hate the erg. i love it for what it does for me, but i hate it for what it does to me. it sucks, it hurts, and you don't go anywhere, but without it i'd be slower.

  • True that man. True that. I say the exact same thing.

  • the only thing is, they take erg times for qualification for nationals selection camps were i come from. but ya man i tottaly agree about the erg.

  • I know, ergs suck. hate hate em. but i do love crew. This is my first spring season, so and i havent raced yet, but i did fall season races, and those are three times as long and suuuuuuucccckkkkk. But i still love crew

  • I've rowed crew all my life and find extreme suffering and constant pain, thanks to the invention of the Ergometer. I've never found something more aerobically and mentally challenging to the comfort of my body. Thanks Australia your just the best.

  • You're entering a world of pain, or as we German rowers tend to say: Fly or Die!

  • therefore, you're gonna die. ha!

  • this is so true lol, wow

  • i've never heard such truer words in my life. they sum up everything that i feel during a race.

  • so fucking true....

  • i hate spaghetti rigged boats....i dont know why its just annoying especially if im in 2 seat

  • this is so real
