Showing my age, but is anyone here old enough to have jumped an H21? In a time long ago we did -- took it forever to gain enough altitude to jump. 2/504, 2/503, 173rd
Got 3 jumps from a UH-60 back in the 90's. The TACP guys from Pope put on Jumpfest and had a nice beer bash and pig roast afterwards. Those were the days.
air assault uses ropes to repel from the helicopter, airborne uses parachutes from a much higher elevation. the two are nothing alike. this is the 82nd. been there. done it.
i think the 101st only jumps with their pathfinders i went to the school in 82 ans it was cool. i was one of only 12 paratroopers in the class and we owned the place. legs on a string
Was wondering what unit this was. These black hawk jumps dont come often. Just was wondering if this was my unit by any chance. Let me know please. Thanks
@abngator80 Who shot this video? I was on this jumo right after a tour in Kosovo...I was the guy on the right side on the middle. SSG Truelove was the guy with the not so happy look in the back of the bird.
@mgmail5 You're right about helicopter jumps being rare, and the only time my unit did them was when we had no AWOLs. We could jump one to four times depending on how many parachutes were available.
so fucking cool

@SargonFour Holy Smoke! I have only seen one in an Air Museum. I just pulled it up on Google, and they retired H21s in 1967. I was in 2/508 in 1977.

fdstation223 4 years ago
Im going into the 82nd after highschool. Im guessing all the DZ are named after all the WW2 DZ's the 82nd landed in or am I wrong?
ltrobertcole 4 years ago
No way it's normandy. If you're jumping out of a Black Hawk it's most likely Ste Mere Eglise.

looks like Ste Mere
