Wow. Graffiti that makes sense and is clean, Today graffiti is pretty bad. It's either 14 year old delinquent stuff, thinking they're cool and stuff, and the people who think they're 'artists' and put down stuff that's ripped off from America, The other group at least actually puts effort and creativity into it, but really, I'm no authority on graffiti
Excellent Video>Brings back alot of good memories, getting hassled by the RIO's at Sandringham Station, summer days riding the red rattlers to school with the doors open...getting off at middle brighton station to go to 'THE TOWNHALL CRAWL' bluelight disco,The Sandy Boys,Westside,Southside,The Bowies & the Brighton Boys...those days are long gone but I'm glad I was a part of it & have fond memories of that time. The graffiti wasn't half as bad as it is today,at least you could read it back then.
LOL...I was in the Sandy Chicks, dated a Sandy Boy or two and hung out with the West Side Sharps. Even saw some of my old friends names grafittied. Wow, haven't thought about those days in forever!
Sandringham roundabouts had plants and trees in them?....Sandy Boys ? LOL....And the classic Tait Trains and decent Telecom pay phones that would actually work...Those were the better days....
I used to go to sandy primary started there in 1980. I have been looking for footage of Hampton and Sandy good memories. I was shit scared of the Sandy boys and was terrified any time i walked through the underpass. Thankyou for posting.
You hadn,t lived unless you had been on a Red Rattler......
The chink chink from those overhead thingys.....Sauna like in summer.... Freezer box in winter (yes it used to rain) Passive smoking...... Good memories of Melbourne before it lost its identity.
@penfloyd I agree with you, even though I'm a bubs compared to you and doesn't know jack.
Melbourne is nothing but a bunch of glass boxes and shopping centres, trawling through the internet about the past melbourne showed that, although flawed, it was a more livable city than it is now.
Nice shot of an orange MMTB Volvo bus on hire to the Victorian Railways at Sandringham. The reporter in the Tait train was a familiar ABC face from the early 1980s and the shot of the female reporter at the end --- very 1980s. Jim Frazer from the ARU refers to the MTA so that makes the date after 1 July 1983 and with the Taits withdrawn in 1984 makes the date of the video 1983-1984. Pity graffiti is still a big problem on Melbourne's transport network but mostly these days along the line.
this must be a version that hadnt been edited completely. heh very interesting though. see the zavior uniform towards the end, the wog tag- that was pointless and the tags from the sharps... heh the aussie sharpies of the day

Those were the days - a lot of graffiti but not a tag or mural to be seen. That epidemic began a couple of years later.
