I am afraid the direction that the B1 was/is facing was the only way it could be put onto the low loader at the battlefeild railway.
One of the reasons it was on shed for most of Saturday was that it was being prepared for the evening dining train for which it was booked to haul. It also says in the timetable that it runs late afternoon and obviusly the trains fot behind time which you have to be prepared to face with at big events such as this.
I accept your point that the downhill facing was unavoidable.
Re preparation of the loco: the GCR loco selected for the evening diner always runs a full service during the day. I cannot understand the priorities in withholding the loco for this reason.
Re the late-running. No criticisms for this here; spectators had as much as they could possibly want! The TT was incredible!
Let me say that the efforts of all those involved are much appreciated.
The B1 was out late because it was crewed exclusively by the B1 group - if it had been on in the morning then the crew would have gone over hours and there wasn't a second crew to relieve them if the engine had gone out in the morning.
A lovely bit of film though, I'm sure I talked to you at some point as I was checking passes over the first weekend.
I opperate as part of that group the we were out late in the day because of the way we were time tabled not because of crew hours as we had 2 drivers and 3 firemen so we changed crew half way through the day
Thanks for the info. We were disappointed that we didn't get a good shot of 1306 which was so beautifully turned out. I've never managed to get a decent shot of her yet.
Thanks for the info, though it looks as though the chap below disagrees with your explanation.
Whatever happened it was a good Gala and very enjoyable, if a little on the intense side!
I recall being inspected just north of Weybourne (around the time that 1300 struggled after the rain shower) by a very polite lady and gentleman! I believe my papers were in order! I always applaud such inspections as it deters the freeloaders from the lineside.
That wasn't me then but I agree about the passes - I had a couple of cases of people "freeloading" behind the fence who had only showed up to take photos/video but otherwise everyone I spoke to was very friendly and positive about the gala. Good to hear you had such a good time though. Will you be releasing a DVD with this footage on?
Re: Mayflower - I'm voluntary shed staff and wasn't involved with timetabling, so you'll know what your loco was doing! :P
I have no plans to release a DVD specifically for the Gala as I do not really have sufficient footage from my single day. I know Peter Boggis (Peter8121) was planning to release a DVD of the Gala which I am sure will be up to his usual excellent standards. I'm sure he would be more than pleased to supply you with one! Than you for your interest.
All visiting loco's ran on the services on the friday whilst the home fleet were kept on shed. Mayflower was paired with the Quad-Art set all day and looked superb
Unfortunately that will be no consolation to those who visited on Saturday, which is surely the "bigger" day for such events. It's a bit like playing the Wimbledon final on a Friday! It was also disappointing that it was facing downhill; I gather that was a c*ck-up
Nice Vid!

La locomotora "1300" que aparece en el minuto 7:00 es parecida a la "Monte Caseros" solo que con los cilindros internos

Thanks; glad you enjoyed it. A bit of a frustrating day with the weather unfortunately.
