It's like Facebook status updates but thats all. People choose if they want to see your updates, and you choose who's updates you see. Because the messages are short and snappy, people leave lots of updates so you can find out what people are doing all the time!

Twitter as the advantage of simple. It doesn't have the clutter that Facebook or MySpace might bring if you just want to post your status or little stuff that you want to say (in fact, 140 char max).

No, it's just a micro-blog. So you can blog small things. There's no need to check what people says every minutes. But if you really want to, you can setup you're account to send you an SMS every time one of your friend post a new message. There's also some client as widget or iPhone applications.

I'm yet to grasp at what exactly twitter is for. I have an account and use it, but to me its just Facebook status updates with no real social networking system in place save for following people and replying to everyone's inane thoughts or computer generated posts. To me Twitter shows that a website doesn't have to have any real purpose or use in order to gain a following so long as someone in the media sees that all the kids are using it, so that every celebrity and company sets up an account.
