Very nice. I like how you led into the solo and how you finished it, loved the segment that began at 0:19 - the only constructive criticism is that a few places your solo seemed a little out of sync with the tempo. But so nice I had to listen to it a few times. Great job.
Hi Desi, I've enjoyed your Guitar DVD's. How about some advanced techniques, Key Changes, Harmonies and classical styles? Hey I have an Idea, lets do some tracks together!! I play Bass and Guitar, and I'm sure you have many students ready to get into advanced theory. what do ya say? Thanks, Rich,....bassplayersayer
@CyberQ4 I wouldn't classify this as Dorian mode because the Bm chord is not really functioning as the root. This progression actually leads to and resolves on A which you don't really feel until after the solo when the vocals come back in. So it's Ionian mode. It's just tricky to understand because these chord changes are climbing up the scale.
Compliments the track nicely ...only problem is too short, would have liked to listen for another 5 mins. Somebody mentioned you make it look so easy...I think you make it look TOO easy. Go well Desi!
Just found a great song called Majesty (Here I am) whilst doing a search for Delirious. Great song. Wish I could believe but for whatever reason I am not able. My Mother is a Christian and will love this music.
@Lewis0147 Lewis, read I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist by Norman L. Geisler and Frank Turek and you'll be able to believe. You're welcome to send me a private message if you'd like to discuss this further.
I remember an English Christian band called Delirious that a friend introduced me to when I was at Uni. Not sure how big they were on the world stage but I remember they were quite good.
Great melodic solo Desi that really compliments the song. I have bought all your DVDs and your book Fretboard Theory and can't recommend them highly. I found your explanation of the modes to be particularly helpful. Thanks for making me a better guitar player!
@Lewis0147 EEK! Lewis - re-read your response. You "can't recommend them highly"? Do you mean "highly ENOUGH"? That's the way I would take it, anyway.
@retreadz Hi retreadz. I posted it late last night on my phone and didn't realise until later that I had missed out the word "enough"! I tried to edit/delete it, but couldn't figure out how. If Desi is reading this please feel free to remove my previous comment. Hopefully people will realise what I meant. My apologies.
I have come across a lot of guitar tuition methods in my time and Desi's approach to teaching theory and the way he presents it is one of if not the best I have seen.
You make the guitar do what it was designed to do, speak the language of the song, offering the hearer a rich palate of interpretive tones and melody, exalting the author of music, our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you!
Here is Desi once again dispelling the "those who can't...teach" myth with this tasteful-without-being-flashy solo. This sample of "doing" coupled with his amazing "teaching" techniques and delivery methods make Desi the complete deal. Well done!
Very nice indeed! I play a bit myself, but can't come even close to soloing like that. I have a tune I call Seiminole Spirit that I play on my kit built Strat copy. I love guitar but also play Native American flute. I'm a better flute maker than player though. Please google Dan Whitepath or Whitepath Flutes and check out my website. Great solo! Makes me want to practice.
Thanks for that, a nice tasty solo there. Desi, please check out my CD on Youtube. I made the CD for the amazing christian charity ROPE. You will hear excerpts from it by typing in: guitar music by john berry - Rope charity CD. Please feel free to leave some comments. God bless.
@CyberQ4 The progression I'm playing over is Bm A/C# D E. This is ii I IV V (2 1 4 5) in the key of A. You can use either A major pentatonic or the full A major scale. I used a combination of both along with arpeggio patterns from the CAGED system. In the video description is a link to the contest details. There you can download the track for yourself.
Desi is a great guitarist and teacher! I have his Fretboard Theory Book and all his DVD's. They all get my highest recommendation! Check them out, you won't be sorry. Fantastic job with your solo! Hope you win!
