Actually, I had an 1982 fairlane, with the 250 crossflow of a 1986 XF (carberatted). Stock. All that was done was the timing advanced and air filter removed and it was wheelspinning up to 60km/h no probs.

Never had a problem with it (Though was easy to break into) was stolen and flogged to NSW from VIC, clocked at about 181km/h... Got it back a few weeks later, and ran perfect with only a little whine in the diff. They are bloody tough.

vns are better than xr6t...how many vns have nothing like the mechanical longevity of a ford six of similar age - taxis have been known to do 1 million kilometres with minor mechanical overhauls. the ve gts is a great car - good chassis, weighted/balanced, great power & torque. my point is give credit where its due the xr6t is also a very good car

Ever heard a run in VN V6 ? the timing chain rattle is in all of them! longtivity? I know of somone who had a VN and had to replace the fuel pump 3 times in a month! Not to mention the rough idle, water pump etc giving him grief. His happiest day was when he got rid of the damned thing. And Holden couldn't make an Engine, so they nicked a V6 from GM which was pox-ridden.

The holden V8's after 98 where decent, V6's however where pox ridden junk.
