Saw an excerpt of what was taking place in London & Liverpool mid 63 ,shot in 16mm b&w by a friend of the late Jack Paar that was aired on his show..The Beatles were the main feature of course but then their were these,these..... "Pretty Things" - already wearing their hair down to the shoulder ! I was 9 at the time & thought whatever the age appropriate equivalent of WTF !
Gotta say this is fabulous stuff....great vocals...best I have heard since the days of the Liverpool Five in the mid sixties. Both the PTs and the LP 5 deserve wider appreciation...You Tube has helped a lot in this respect.
seriously. hands down. the pretty things, mmm, best music my ears have ever heard and my soul has ever been moved by. im in love. im so made that the world introduced me to the who, the beatles, led zeppelin, the grateful dead, jimi hedrix, pink floyd, & so much more but i had to STUMBLE ACROSS THE PRETTY THINGS, the best thing ive ever heard.
had the strangest urge to go beat the piss out of my drums after seeing this....so I went with it :) man I love the pretty things they'll never get old in my mind
Number one, the rock and hall of fame is a joke. Next year Britany Spears is on the ballot. Number two, I can guarantee you, the income The Pretty Things made was nothing to be scoffed at, especially for getting high and playing rock and roll. Number three, if any of the Pretty Things did not have a home or the essentials of life, you can bet it was because of drug and sex madness or a ripoff manager, not because they weren't appreciated or did not receive popular acclaim. Great Post!!!
How some marginally talented rock bands make serious cash, while some of the great's make no money and are footnotes in history, makes no sense to me. The Pretty Things in the 60's were wilder, louder and just as talented as any British rock band during the time, (the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Who, Yardbirds, Kinks, Pink Floyd, Hollies, etc.) yet have little to show for it, even in their own country. As this performance and their albums indicate that is a crime worthy of induction into the RRHOF.
who else did Skip Allen play with. What happened to Twink. Wasn't he the original Pretties drummer. Cool footage. The crowd were just itching to smash the place to pieces led on no doubt by this mad man...great stuff.
Hey Stink-Viv Prnce was the PT's original Drummer, BUT he was such a MANIAC they had to "sack him" He was replaced by the 17 year old Alan Skipper (1965-66) during the recording of their second Album-Twink "Deputized" for them when Skip would become "distracted" & take the occasional "sabbatical" during their psychedelic period (1967-69).
Twink was also GREAT (Bringing the Band a theatrical/mime element(perfect for acid)& his GREAT Rolls are Featured on the Seminal psych Rocker "Alexander" Eric
Watch Dick "crack-up" at Skipper's "antics" when he get's back up on stage!!....Also like how Wally attempts to "sway" in time w/Skip also!!....These Guys ALWAYS leave it ALL on stage!! The GREAT PT's!! Eric
Pretty Things in concert 1967.I think this was somewhere in France. The song is called Reincarnation, but was never recorded.Great show of the best drummer ever, here at the age of 19 years old. That time Wally Allen and John Povey were very new in the band.Thank you Skip for all the beautful memories.Yours,Robert.
And that's why I love Skip Alan.

This is the Nirvana of 60s. I'm glad I found TPT. Not all true Legends get the recognition they deserve. TPT for instance.

i always thought this band had a huge effect on hawkwind.....but, then, those two chord acid jams may have been prevalent
back then.

Indeed...The Pretty Things are most definitely, not knocking on the door ...of the R'n'R Hall Of Lame.
These dudes lived the life they wanted, and got payed for it. Bad managers are a way of life in this business.
Unlike Sir Jogger, whe haven't all got prince Rupert von Löwenstein ,economics professors to take care of our businesses.
And ,as Phil May says."if we HAD gotten our due money,we probably would've been dead by now".♫

@mrbag60 I agree. They're giants. Same as the NY Dolls. Most of them dead like Johnny Thunders - a genius.
