thanks for that Punktower. Have you ever thought that simply pointing out the error rather than insulting people who are trying to help others may be a better way. As it happens, I am partially sighted so I missed the errors at the checking stage. As to the software, I find it helps to organise my thoughts rather than ploughing through loads of index cards and paper. I am not saying this way is the only way, just that it may help some people who like me are disorganised.
You might like to know that there's a new improved and fully compatible version of Freemind - FREEPLANE 1.10. I've tried it and it's even better than Freemind (produced by some of the same team who broke away). And yes - it's FREE! Download here: w w w . freeplane . sourceforge . net [remove spaces I've added to allow me to post up link]
I tried freemind for a while, but came to the conclusion that mind maps are best done on paper with coloured pens. It's great that the program is free, but there's a lot of faffing around with the formatting.
That right click and select insert started to wear on my mind. Just hit the insert key when the parent bubble is high-lighted to get a new child node. Or if you've just entered a child node hit enter twice instead of once and you're set to go with a new child node.
I tried using Tiddly Wiki to plot a novel but I didn't have a lot of faith that it was definitely storing everything. Is there a better wiki to use?
The video above was pretty cool otherwise but I just wish it had had a HQ version.
Freemind lets you organize you're thoughts. Start with title, then add child node for victim, put in world as new child node then just add new nodes as the ideas come.
@TheNystagmic "Basic giude"? "You're thoughts"? You're going to teach us how to write a novel but you can't even spell or get "your" right? No wonder "you're" in need of a computer program to create a novel.
@Punktowner The double-irony is that you put "you're" in quote marks as though you're ironically making the mistake that the uploader made; however the spelling of you're is correct in your sentence, so the quote marks are redundant.
Everyone is laughing at you now Punk; you just made yourself look stupid on the internet and I'm sure it's not the first time.
@jpryding Ah, yeah -- I realize that under normal circumstances I wouldn't need to put "you're" (oh wow, I did it again!) in quotation marks (it's "quotation" marks, by the way), but I was calling attention to the proper usage for those who can't write properly without the aid of a computer program.
i would like o ceat a crime with a plot twist and the ictim is the world it self well every one living on the planet how can i do that with this program
Interesting video! I like how you talk about both the workings of FreeMind, how you go about organizing a novel, and more importantly, how the two relate. I think mind maps form a nice complement to wikis, and I can see from this video how a mind map can work better in some contexts than a wiki.
Noir Nation, coming to an e-reader near you this September. On Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter.

why can't you work from the killer instead of the victim? why someone kills is SO much more interesting than why someone was killed:)
