  • Science deals with processes that are understood; the step by step structural dissection of nature. Science explains; it deals with the hows and processes. Creationism (the "god did it" argument) explains nothing. It's a big zero, a mockery of science and a copout. Creationism is pure authoritarianism in it's epistemology that does nothing to broaden our understanding of nature.

  • the south opposing creationism? I must be dreaming

  • Matters of faith belong in church, being taught by men of the cloth...not in school by professors and faculty.

  • I know the situation is bad in other places in the world (like in Turkey, where a kind of islamic creationism is strong, and fundamentalist countries in the middle-east), but America in 2012? Why do the religious even have influence in matters of science education AT ALL?

Believing in superstition written down a few thousand years ago, regardless of whether it is taken litteraly or otherwise, has no place in a science class or an educated society. It just dumbs down humanity.

    Good luck America.

  • @0debug Sorry about the 2012 thing. I noticed the video was posted in 2011. I'm sure that the USA has woken up from the grasp of the religious people now, and has taken a more Enlightenment-like route in science classes. After all, 6 months is a long time, and the religious have probably given up by now.

(On the internet, there's a fine line between sarcasm and... eh... sarcasm.)

  • "The textbooks are biased to evolution" Yes, just as they are biased to gravity, thermodynamics, or electromagnetism.

  • Creationism is NOT SCIENCE.

  • That this was even on the news is utterly insane. Teaching creationism in science class is like teaching the Bible in history class.

That God created the Earth 6,000 years ago is highly impressive, when you consider that Babylonian and Sumerian civilizations had already existed for thousands of years at that point. Did you know that beer was invented 1,000 years before the creation of the world?

  • @SatanicFilmHouse "That God created the Earth 6,000 years ago is highly impressive, when you consider that Babylonian and Sumerian civilizations had already existed for thousands of years at that point. Did you know that beer was invented 1,000 years before the creation of the world?"

Google "Last Thursdayism". This is how creationsists explain away every one of your arguments. It's quite amusing.

  • @Kingyeshuaswitness Before you go around flaunting your obvious ignorance of science as some kind of virtue because your mind is clearly mired in the poppycock of ancient fantasy and superstition, it might behoove you to learn what exactly a **scientific theory** constitutes.

  • @Kingyeshuaswitness You belittle yourself.

Don't bother posting bible verses. They're nothing but silly nonsense that sprang from human imaginations during an era of humanity that consisted of utter ignorance and rampant superstition.

A theory is a scientific explanation of an observed phenomenon. Unlike laws, theories actually explain why things are the way they are. Theories are what science is for!

  • (2) Theory does not mean guess, or hunch, or hypothesis. A theory does not change into a scientific law with the accumulation of new or better evidence. A theory will always be a theory, a law will always be a law. A theory will NEVER become a law, and a law never was a theory. The Theory of Evolution is the cornerstone of modern biology, and is FACT! It's used every day in the design/engineering of drugs, vaccines, etc., and it works. Put down the stupid, and try some education.

  • @Kingyeshuaswitness Of course evolution is a theory, but a theory is a scientific hypothesis that is well tested is well supported by evidence. God, on the other hand......is really just a hypothesis, as there are virtually NO evidence for God and let's face it, you're crazy and deluded for believing something without good reason and evidence.

  • @Kingyeshuaswitness Actually, evolution is a biological fact. It is "evolution by the process of natural selection" that is a theory. And natural selection is still the best working description of how the process of evolution works. And is also the basis of how we understand and create such things as vaccines. I would recommend you go to a science web site such as talkorigins. org and get science information from scientists instead of creationist nuts.

  • @Kingyeshuaswitness

Do you even know what a scientific theory is?

Theres a different definition for theory in science than in everyday speech. Different fields have different jargon. For example, suit means something very different in the legal field than it does in every speech.

In science,"Theory" means a PROVEN explanation of an event in nature.

In speech theory is an assumption(the word for this in science is hypothesis)

Theory is the highest level of truth in science.

  • @Kingyeshuaswitness Thats correct evolution is still just a theory. Like how gravity, atoms, and germs are still just theories.

  • @Kingyeshuaswitness Yes, but it's a theory that has passed all tests put to it. Evolution is demonstrable and can be verified using multiple methods. there are thousands of books that prove it and observation of human and chimpanzee DNA show proof that it exists.

But I guess you have one book written 1800 years ago that states that everything in it is true. I guess Darwin should have written that into his book as well!

  • @Kingyeshuaswitness and what would creationism be then? haha Plus there is plenty of evidence backing evolution.

  • @Kingyeshuaswitness

    well

I guess , the correct termina for the word "theory" in scientific terms , is unknown to you ...but hey , why bother explaning ...when verybody has a good laugh :-)))

    Brgds

    GSO

  • @Kingyeshuaswitness Evolution is a scientific theory, whereas creationism can't even classify as a hypothesis due to being unfalsifiable.

You see, a theory in science is the gathering of experiments, information, evidence and so on pertaining a specific natural event. In colloquial terms, the word means something entirely different, which would be closer to a guess. What you;re doing there is called an equivocation fallacy, try checking it up and see what your mistake is.

  • You know it's a sad state of affairs when students have to stand up and say, "What the fuck are you trying to teach us??"

  • Louisiana needs to get a Native American as Governor =)

  • I used to be a creationist like you than I took an arrow in the knee

  • Thanks Zack, for standing up for education. We are already in what 27th position in science in the recent international testing and the stupid politicians want to make it even worse so they can get votes. In the meantime Chinese students are moving ahead at lightening pace educating themselves for the next generation and we are held hostage by BS politicians.

  • Atheists don't want Creation taught, because they know that they don't have a chance against it.

  • @Christistruth1 Funny. I didn't know the pope was an atheist.

  • @evejunkie1942 When did I say Christians didn't believe in Evolution? I believe in evolution. I just don't believe in Darwinian evolution, as the Pope.

  • @Christistruth1 your an ass. shut the fuck up...by the way your videos are boring and so are your thoughts. "you silly cunt" you and your god the cross shall kneel to me fore my beliefs are greater.

  • @a1saouse Go back to Mexico.

  • @Christistruth1 Atheists don't want Creation taught??? of coarse we dont, not in America anyways! this nation is secular! I thought you said creation was already taught in schools though? They teach the world is 6k years old... &the twisted part is you yourself don't believe the world is 6k years old, so ask yourself, why would you want creation taught in school if you yourself don't agree with what they're teaching? "you silly cunt"

  • @a1saouse You're not American, you're from Mexico.

  • @a1saouse You: "MY COUNTRY MEXICO...." Go back.

  • @Christistruth1 you don't have the sense to back yourself up, why would anyone listen to you.you are a treat to mock, you are confused and desperate, trust in me when i tell you -you have no concept of what your fighting, you are all over the place.your videos are boring and your a peace of shit for blocking people thats censorship, that in itself tells me what a peace of shit stain you are that goes for your family too... GO BACK AND GET SOME SANITY "YOU SILLY CUNT"

  • @a1saouse "You are a treat to mock." LOL, For some reason you think that you're special or something? OHHHHH I should really be hurt by your mockery, what is this the 7th grade? Only children play your games kiddo. Fine it's censorship, and I censored you, because all you do is trash talk. You have two brain cells and their fighting. I could care less what you say or think about my family kiddo, this isn't Jr High. Yeah, yeah, yeah, grow up, and find a girl friend. Bye.

  • @Christistruth1 i notice every site you go on people keep telling you the same thing?do you think maybe its you with the troubles of not being able to get along with humanity, society can be very cruel at times 'learn to let go of this silliness, you can start by removing your video's or at least improving them,&not censoring anyone when you feel pressured or but-hurt, &try to be more friendly, remember your suppose to be a man of god,not an angry one. Peace be with you.

  • @a1saouse I get along with people just fine, I have a lot of friends. I even have atheists friends. See, again you're assuming. I don't have to do anything you tell me, I'm not wrong. I am not required to do jack squat for you. I'm not hurt, I just don't want you trolling my videos. You're bipolar.

  • @Christistruth1 I never said you didnt have any friends, you see again... your assuming, read my comment again. what ive read about you and the things people say to you, even the one's that share your same beliefs, that are christians, have a problem with what you say, im not alone, you are wacky &so are your video's. consider what i said about your character as well as the character of your video's. "shalom"

  • @a1saouse I never said you said that, in fact, I replied accurately, I get along with people just fine, and AS A MATTER OF FACT, I have a lot of friends. You read my comment again. Okay name me one person who shares my views and have a problem with what I have said. Go ahead. I don't have to consider a word you say, in fact, I don't even care, I know I'm right, I don't care what you think about my character kiddo. I'm sorry, I mean look at your character. Bi-polar.

  • @Christistruth1 As a believer in Elohim you should submit to your lord Jesuh The Christ, I see a rebellious amongst the lambs of god, you are a warrior... god needn't your sward!... nor the shield you so arrogantly shield yourself with... your what's known as a cheap cop-out nothing more!... nothing less!...SAVVY

  • @Christistruth1 Where would you be if 'Jesus the god" censored sinners? You would have been censored along time ago and so would your family and your silly kids... and you know it-its o.k you can admit it... i wont hold it against you, but maybe your beliefs will...THATS A SHAME!

  • This proves that if Atheists were on your city council, they're going to support you.

  • I agree that it is unconstitutional to teach Creationism in the schools, that does not mean I do not support Creation and disagree with evolution. The thing about America that makes it so hard to spread the gospel, is that churches are EVERYWHERE! If someone wants to get saved, they can do it without fear of persecution. I'm not saying that is a bad thing, but we are so relaxed with Christianity now that people no longer take it seriously, which allows things like evolution to prosper.

  • Well done, Zack!

  • Bobby Jindal is a puppet for the right-wing evangelical Christians. It's funny. He knows what gets votes. In a commercial for his campaign he states he is a Christian. Stupid fucker.

  • ZACK YOU ARE A HERO

    YOU ARE A REAL AMERICAN

  • I want my kids to be like that when I have kids

  • It's good to see this kid standing up for all kids to be taught facts & not fiction.

  • If you're going to teach creationism, then do it in a religion studies class, and make the class elective, not mandatory.

  • Thats the beauty of science. You don't need fairy tales to back it up - it stands on its own, against delusion.

  • keep religion out of schools

this is why we have churches, mosques, and synagogues

  • If I was a teacher in Louisiana, I would start bringing Muslim centric teachings into the classroom. Imagine the reactions of the conservatives to that!

  • @philritter21 They should definitely teach about the Flying Spaghetti Monster and how Heaven=beer volcano and a Stripper factory. The creationists can't disprove it =D

  • @philritter21 excellent consideration!

Thank you I shall exploit this argument too. It all boils down to "there is multiple denominations of superstition but only one lack of superstition" Salutation from Germany.

  • A hero in the making!!!

  • "You don't need a law to teach critical thinking........ but you do need a law to teach creationism."

I could not have said it better myself. My hat goes off to this young man.

  • Way to go Zack! Religion should stay the fuck out of education!

  • "You don't need a law to teach critical thinking, that's what science is."

    BOOYEAH!

  • They need this kid in Texas, STAT!

  • 3 people never made it out of the bronze age.

  • Zack Kopplin, we salute you

  • Good on this guy.

  • Hats off to Zack. I'd like to see more youngsters telling these creatards in education where to stick their bronze age myths.

It must be a real kick for him to have 43 Nobel Laureates backing him up. What a rush for a high school kid!

Re. the city council member who thanked him for bringing this to their attention: Oh, as if they didn't know. Kind of embarrassing having a 12th grader do your job for you, huh?

  • @Astrobrant2 Hopefully, more like him in other States will take actions.

  • I hope Zack runs for the Louisiana legislature some day! I love how he gives a little laugh after Bachmann is mentioned.

  • It is heartening that the "people" of this state are brighter than the politicians who just can't get enough of brown-nosing the religious right.

  • I loled when they mentioned Jindal's genetics professor.

  • there should be for students like him.

  • This kid is a hero.

  • Great work Zack. Now there's real change for Luisiana.

  • good. Let's see this go all throughout the south.

  • Even the ''bible belt'' is rejecting this creationism nonsense. Congratulations Louisiana and Good job Zach.

  • The next generation Richard Dawkins!

  • Another victory for separation of church and state!

  • Well done Zach, props to you for standing up!

  • Jeez that's a bright kid.

  • 2 creationists watched this video.

  • Oh, god is gonna be upset now. O.O lol Well done Zack

  • I hope other young people watch this and speak out against ignorance.

  • Way to go Zack! Very inspiring!

  • Now that kid gives me hope for the future of education in this country. Go right on son and keep standing up for reason over religion.

  • OMG there is fucking hope !

  • How can a third of a board of education be against education? Why don't these people get appointed for qualification?

  • I feel like cheering!

  • Fantastic stuff. This young fella is to be commended.

  • @BlackBeardDelight187 I attend school with Zack and he is actually not hated at our school. We don't have a traditional social structure at our school, and those that would normally be viewed as popular are seen as failures. Although he has gained much support for his cause at our schoolc, he also generates some animosity through the way he promotes himself there. I personally see it is necessary to gain the attention of those who he needs to accomplish this.

  • An incredible young man. I'm very proud of him. His state will do well with him in a position of reason.

  • Awesome!!!

  • wow. very intelligent, articulate and not irritating. that's pretty rare.

  • 8-4?????

    the world is watching people

  • Michelle Bachman disliked this video :p

  • Zack Kopplin and those that supported him are true heroes. Keep fighting the good fight to spread reason, not superstition!

  • We need more smart, brave, young people to stand up to the delusional fools.

This young man makes me proud.

  • Comment removed

  • Outstanding kid. Wish I had his balls at that age, would have had a much better time. Very well done, Zack.

  • @GriffinPilgrim

''Wish I had his balls at that age''

    That sounded wrong.......

  • Kids like this give us some hope for the future.

  • Hero!

  • Whats sad is that this KID is smarter than the adults in Louisiana's government and school board.

  • Zach FTW!

  • This young man is MADE of win! Logic/science WILL prevail!

  • I tip my hat to this guy. Its only a matter of time now. I can only imagine the amount of hatred this guy will get from his high school peers, especially the popular ones. Jealousy is the most sincere form of flattery. I got your back, Zack

  • This young man talks more sense than any youngster I have seen for years and most adults.

  • I would be the proudest parent on earth if this was my child. Yes I am envious.

  • What are we discussing? Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District was 7 years ago.

    Well done kid.

  • i love this guy, his parents can be proud

  • Zack Kopplin for president 2024!!!

  • Very impressive young man.

  • Teach the rubbish in Sunday school if you must remain closed minded, but keep fantasy out of education.

  • If you put religion in the science class, we get to put a porno theater in your church.

  • @Mahoivlich Hey, great idea - alkaline metals in the font ;-)

  • If you get yo teach religion in my science class I get to burn down your church, or turn it into a porno theater.

  • Well done.

  • Great kid!

  • Good for you kid!

  • Rice University; it figures. What most impresses me is his psychological qualities, which have enabled him to effectively function in adult political society.

  • This kid is a hero.

  • This makes me smile.

  • Awesome kid or the most awesome kid?

  • @sKepptiksowat Awesome kid; one of many I've noticed recently.

  • @sKepptiksowat Leaning toward the later.

  • @sKepptiksowat most awesomest

  • About time the south wakes up and gets a real education....I am glad to here that creationism looses again

  • @inquiry10 What kills me is that rich Southerns & their descendants have always made sure *they* got an education while discouraging the poor, blacks, women & everybody else to get one, sometimes even outlawing it, yet much of the South *still* hasn't realized that education is the path to economic & political power.

  • @eumenidis

It is my hope that the south eventually does realize this and makes education its top priority 9for the sake of the next generation)

  • @inquiry10 We can hope; meanwhile, I've got a nephew who wants to be a scientist so I'm looking into study materials for home schooling--just in case.

  • @eumenidis

You have to do what you have to do sometimes

My parents sent me too two private schools growing up and I had to re-learn science thanks to the Christan education I received as a teen.

Even today i find myself re questioning science thanks in no small part to the brainwashing I received form age 5 to 17.

If I ever adopt a child I will be sure to keep a close eye on what the school is teaching him/her.

    Best of luck

  • That is good to see.

Science should always trump religious superstitions and non-factual beliefs.

  • @nett103

Yes the truth should always prevail

  • Zack is persuasive, smart, articulate and Rice University is lucky he chose to go to college there.

Governor Jindal should admit he was hoodwinked by the religious zealots.

  • @zippyman818 not that articulate tho... but i agree any university is lucky to have this kid. This is a great thing to on his resume.

  • @zippyman818 - problem is i think JINDAL is a religious zealot. i read an account of him performing an exorcism on his college roommate!

  • Mhm, I see.
