Well, I'm probably playing with fire, but I thought I'd comment. When dealing with relationships, you should never try to go through things with that person that you don't want in a long-term relationship. Also, if you're in a relationship with someone who you become 'best friends' with, you decide to separate, then they don't want to continue that friendship.. they likely aren't the kind of person you would want to be with, anyway.
The thing is...we can't properly heal if we keep being "best friends". If we keep talking like best friends like we always have...we can't get over the relationship. That's what makes it so hard.
I can very much sympathize with your situation. I'm a 23 year old guy, so this happens to people of all ages and genders. I think making your significant other your best friend is normal, but you have to remember to maintain other signficant friendships. Todays relationships are defined by what other people have. Everyone wants what someone elce has. Couples seem to set the bar, then try to raise it over and over. They want to me intimate, mature, romantic, serious. Relationships are mostly self demeaning.. Referring to relationships, I wouldn't be able to be friends with anyone that I was with. I have a hardcore insecurity that keeps me from achieving otherwise.

Well, I'm probably playing with fire, but I thought I'd comment. When dealing with relationships, you should never try to go through things with that person that you don't want in a long-term relationship. Also, if you're in a relationship with someone who you become 'best friends' with, you decide to separate, then they don't want to continue that friendship.. they likely aren't the kind of person you would want to be with, anyway.

I can very much sympathize with your situation. I'm a 23 year old guy, so this happens to people of all ages and genders. I think making your significant other your best friend is normal, but you have to remember to maintain other signficant friendships. It's tough and sometimes doesn't work, but just keep that in mind and if you try you'll end up ok. good luck!
