We're doing this in my school band for a spring concert, it sounds pretty cool. Really fun to play on trumpet, too, around measure 27 ishh. When things get all fast and I think it notes "smooth"/"legato"

The tempo is the way this particular sort of arrangement of this song is generally performed, and I personally think it works very well. It is very upbeat, reminds me of morning.

Kind of noticed the up tempo at first. But, its pace is more akin to the way the original Shakers probably sang it. It wasn't a hymn, but was a song that the Shakers danced to as part of their way of worship. So, the fast, sort of marching tempo, is probably more true to the composer's original intent.

it was originally written as a "quick dance". if anything, they're doing it close to where it was originally written to be at, tempo wise.
